This property is perfectly located near a wide choice of shops, restaurants, and bars, with the added bonus of beautiful sea views. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the hotel is immaculately clean throughout. Rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and well equipped with modern amenities, including a large TV and excellent WiFi. The hotel is around 25 minutes from the airport by taxi (approximately €50).
Madeira itself is a stunning and diverse island, though its mountainous terrain can make walking challenging, particularly for those with mobility issues. Taxis can be expensive, but Bolt offers a much more affordable alternative. Driving requires confidence, as roads are steep, winding, and driven on the opposite side. P.S Taxi drivers will drive way over the speed limit regardless of road or weather conditions. During our late-December visit, temperatures were around 20°C, with far less rain than forecast and the sun returned quickly, especially in the south, while the north is noticeably greener and wetter.
Food and drink were surprisingly affordable, cheaper than mainland Portugal or Spain. The island’s scenery is breathtaking, from dramatic northern cliffs and volcanic pools to the sunnier southern coast. Overall, we were extremely impressed with Madeira and would happily return.
This has to be the most welcoming hotel we've ever been to. We were checked in with smiles and warmth.
ALL of the bar staff (especially Dora and the Manager- sorry I didn't catch his name) were lovely. The lady that serviced our room was always bubbly and smiling and the room was immaculate.
We fell in love with Madeira and without hesitation we will book this hotel again.
Also, a special thanks to Elsa for her knowledge and advice.
I was back at the wonderful Allegro Madeira for my third year running. This hotel is one of the friendliest I have ever been to. You are treated as an individual here and they will do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. They really care. I love the views from both 306 and 406 which I was in this time. Lovely ocean views and private on the balcony. I have to say a great big thank you to Elsa, Guest Experience Manager, who is an asset to the hotel and to the Barcelo Group. She is brilliant at her job and goes above and beyond to offer help and advice and welcomes guests with such professionalism and enthusiasm. The reception team are the best in Madeira in my opinion- as I said, they treat you as a much valued guest and an individual. Dora is still working in the restaurant and is so kind and friendly and her morning smile is really appreciated. Ricardo, the chef, provided some vegan options and made me cakes. All presented beautifully. All the other chefs and waiting staff are so nice. Thank you again to everyone at The Allegro Madeira for making my stay so memorable. I will be back in March. Até Março ☺️
Another fantastic holiday here.
We were in room 201.
It was spotless. Our maid was exceptional and so polite.
Great bed and shower.
There is a steamer(better than an iron) and a fridge in the room so you can store drinks etc. We used the spar 2 mins away. (If you manage to make anyone in the Spar mini market smile, I think there could be a prize)
The room service is excellent with a great choice, service and price.
The free breakfast was decent enough. A great choice of pastries, bread, fruit and hot products (I’m still a bit iffy on the bacon and sausage. You will get what I mean when you are there) plus an omelette station that also does fresh fried eggs.
They also have a falconry guy around the pool most mornings to scare the pigeons away. Very friendly guy and very knowledgeable.
The reception staff and bar staff are always polite and friendly.
We didn’t use the restaurant at night as so many great restaurants nearby. Especially the Indian across the road and the Italian about 50m down the hill.
The weather wasn’t great while we were there but we only wanted to chill out so never really bothered us.
So overall it’s a great hotel and the adults only is a bonus.
You will not find a better value for money hotel around.
So many thanks for another great break and we will be back in February.
I can't speak highly enough about this hotel.
The rooms are immaculately clean as are all the communal areas and the housekeepers work tirelessly to do this.
All - and I mean without exception - staff at the hotel were superb. They were smiley, wanted to ensure your stay was a positive one, helpful and you felt as though they were happy to be working at the hotel - I can't speak highly enough about them and a big thank you to all of them for helping to make our stay a fabulous one. I don't want to single out a single member of staff but Elsa, the hotel's Guest Experience Manager greeted us on check in as she recognised our name from our emails. She was excellent and was a presence in reception always with a smile on her face aswell.
Just to repeat though ALL staff at the hotel were superb.
The hotel is located around a 20 minute walk from the centre of Funchal but there are ample excellent restaurants all within 5 minutes walk of the hotel.
We stayed on a B&B basis which was good and sampled the bar snacks which were also good.
As the hotel was excellent, Madeira is really lovely and we were so relaxed, we decided to book an extra 4 nights!
We are already looking to book for next year.
Keep up the fabulous work Team Allegro Madeira and thank you again.
Central location for visiting the whole Island. Lots of cafe's, restaurants, and shops. Amazing sea views. Only 100 yards from the Lido swimming complex.
Hotel staff very friendly and welcoming. The food quality was very good both at breakfast time and evening meal , plenty of choice and there was a different food theme in the restaurant every night. Hotel room was lovely the sea view was stunning I was on the 10th floor room 1003 recommend this or 1005. The rooftop bar had 360 degree views of Funchal and was great to watch the sunsets in the evening. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk into Funchal old town on the level , or you could catch the bus for 2 euros from the bus stop by the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing child free break.
My seaview room, 802, had amazing views! Very comfortable and exceptionally clean. Very helpful and professional staff. Breakfast was plentiful. The pool area was very clean and quiet. Q code on your tablemeans you can order from your sun lounger!
Friendly staff, nice airy room which was attended to daily. Buffet breakfast offered a wide selection and was of reasonable quality. Good amenities and gym. Located a few minutes walk from the sea or restaurants, shops and bars.
good hotel, friendly staff, good breakfast options, location is close to restaurants, grocery and 10 minute bus ride to Old Funchal
This was a very nice mid priced hotel with lots of nice facilities and great food options. Room and bath were very comfortable, clean and well resourced. Bathroom towels were the largest i had very seen! All staff were simply wonderful - caring, attentive, knowledgeable and kind. Would def recommend. Despite the building work going on this did not impact on me at all. Close to private car hire, taxis, public transport and airport shuttle stop, a lot of local and regional restaurants nearby, and very happy with my five night stay.
It was all good. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed the island. We hired a car for 3 days to explore further afield which is a must for those that want to get a better feel for the place.
Tre location was perfect. Close to transports, the sea and many good restaurants. Beds in suit varied in comfort from good to terrible. Feels more like a dubble with an extra stretcher. Pool area was nice but the water a little cold.
Very comfortable and no nonsense hotel with good accommodation with shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood and friendly personal! Good for couples who like to relax.
2nd time back already booked for next year amazing staff we are treated like royalty now as we were recognised by our favourite staff nelio and Marco our amazing waiters if they serve you then you will feel so at home we love you both thank you for everything you do Paul and samantha room 905
Fantastic hotel, with clean amazing rooms. Fabulous views. Great food, with an array of food on offer. The most polite helpful staff. 360o bar is stunning. The pool, gym and sauna brilliant.
This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel.
And it gets better every time.
We had a fantastic stay.
The hotel is in a fab position for restaurants and walks and easy access to funchal either walking or public transport.
The hotel is spotless and smells amazing , breakfast is lovely with a great chioce.
And never to busy.
The views from the rooms overlooking the sea are out of this world and photographers paradise.
But whats Great and sets this hotel apart is the staff.
From management to cleaners. all are so friendly
And happy to help.
The reception staff can't do enough for you.
Any problem or little thing you need help with gets sorted immediately with out any fuss.
In the bar and at breakfast a special mention to Nellio and Marcos for making the stay special for me and my family.
Can't wait till our next stay in 2026.
Thanks allegro. 😃👏👏👏

Lovely time. Hotel was comfortable quiet and very clean. Nice staff and helpful. Nice breakfast with good choices. Room view outstanding
The hotel is ideally situated near the bus stop, just a short distance from the promenade, and offers easy access to the Pingo Doce supermarket along with various bars and restaurants.
The staff are friendly and always willing to assist whenever needed.
The themed dinners are a fun touch, letting you try out different cuisines each night.
Very clean and great value for money! Such friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.
Really good location, with lots of bars and restaurants around. Highly recommended.
