Great roof top bar and breakfast
Pros:

The allegro Maderia is ideally placed near the Lido we had room 505 with a beautiful sea view the room was clean and comfortable apart form the bed at the side where the desk is there was a big hollow in it and it was very uncomfortable this has been mentioned in other reviews but nothing has been done about it so a star down for that.
The breakfast in the morning was excellent with a great choice although it was very busy the staff kept everything topped up there was something for everyone.
The only negative was the orange juice it is a concentrated one rather than fresh orange juice and not very nice.
The reception staff were pleasant kind and helpful.
The pool area is lovely with sun beds bu the pool is cold. The Turkish bath is not a Turkish bath just a sauna and steam room which we used as we booked it for an hour with the reception team.
It Could do with a couple of seats to relax after you have been in the sauna and steam room as it was bad weather the day we used it so we could not sit by the pool afterwards.

The icing on the cake was the roof top bar it was wonderful with lovely sea views and the cocktails were fabulous - André is an asset to this hotel, he makes people laugh, has a great personality and is an excellent cocktail maker, his service is exceptional.

The hotel is close to bus stops and it is easy to get into Funchal on the number 1 or 2 or 4 bus from outside . Coming back from town only get the number 1 or 2 bus. It is 2 euros per person per journey.
You can get the number 48 from just further down than the hotel up to Monte where the famous toboggans are .

All in all a very Good hotel just the bed issue that need to be resolved a new mattress as they were 2 single beds pushed together with a thick mattress topper but the mattress on the side where the desk I needs replacing badly. It made for a poor nights sleep for me - It was very quiet outside there was no dupusturbance from anyone or anything at night

Not good value
Pros:

Lots of noise from building work going on on next to the hotel and very near bye when we were trying to relax by the pool.

Fabulous stay would highly recommend this hotel
Pros:

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Located just a 5 minute drive from main town centre of Funchal. We walked in and out on several occasions and it takes about 30minutes as there are hills. Plenty of taxis about and also very close to restaurants, bars and the natural swimming pools.

A great hotel would definitely recommend it
Pros:

We had a great time a this hotel, every member of staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and very spacious, it also had a fridge which was useful.
The breakfast was one of the best we have had, even though it was busy everything was restocked in a timely manner and the quality was good. The omelette station was a bonus with each omelette being cooked to order and the chef was cheerful and helpful.

Andre & excellent cocktail bar
Pros:

We visited the rooftop cocktail bar with friends for drinks at sunset. Andre recommended & made our cocktails. They tasted fabulous so we had several. Andre himself is a knowledgeable, charming, friendly & a very welcoming gentleman. He’s a delight to talk with & is a real asset to this hotel.

Still great!!
Pros:

Hello all.

I wrote a review of the Allegro Madeira after my second visit in 2023. I wrote that review as (if you read my first review), I saw some people write reviews slating this hotel for things that I thought were ridiculous and in my opinion likely untrue.

First review is here https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g189167-d505397-r906987571-Allegro_Madeira_Adults_Only-Funchal_Madeira_Madeira_Islands.html

So this is review is in two parts:
1. Any updates from my original review in regards to the hotel
2. My experience on this visit

Updates to the hotel
Storage has been updated since my original review with more drawers added to the area where you store your clothes. Also all rooms now come with a clothes steamer to help you get rid of those suitcase creases and wrinkles.
Facilities are still top notch. The gym has had a facelift and I felt the air conditioning unit was better and definitely appreciated 😉
The sunbathing area has had some new sun bean bags and actual beds with shade curtains added (I'm sure theres a proper name for them). You do have to pre-book these as I was informed by a member of staff when I just sat on one for a minute. 😊 The sun loungers all have little service cards on them which you can use to order drink to be brought to you from teh bar staff, so you can stay out in that sun and barely move.
If you are with Jet2, they now have a holiday rep who visits the hotel. Her name is Yulia, and I highly recommend talking to her. Especially if you are visiting for the first time. She's a lovely, charasmatic and enthusiastic woman who can advise you on where to visit and what to do when you tell her your plans. Her enthusiasm for Madeira and helping people make the most of their visits is infectious and will make you want to get out and see the island ASAP.

My experience on this visit.
So let me start by telling you that this was my seventh visit to Madeira since my first in 2022. On every visit I have stayed at the Allegro. I call it my Madeiran home, as I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I visit Madeira....unless I end up being fortunate enough to move there.
Since I first walked in the doors of the hotel in 2022 to my visit in December 25/January 2026 the staff have always made me feel welcome, and any request or need is always taken care of. The staff at the Allegro from the manager to the ladies cleaning the rooms will do what they can to help you. They always say hello with a smile and it never feels false.
When I walked in the door after being dropped off by the transfer bus, I was immediately greeted with that scent that the hotel use in the reception area. I have no idea what t is, but it's now in my brain as the "Allegro" scent. It melts away the slight travel fatigue and makes me relax as I know I'm in my favourite hotel. I was then greeted with a big smile and a "hello! It's so good to see you. Welcome back again". Since this was visit number seven obviously the staff recognise me and are always so welcoming. Check in was literally a minute as my info is obviously in the system. I was given the usual welcome bundle the hotel provides. A map of restaurants, bars etc which the hotel themselves recommend. Information about the hotel, numbers, times for food being served, and an invitation to the new years party. I didn't go to the new years party as I was booked in somewhere else for new year.
I went to my room, which as always was immaculate, and had all the amenities and equipment mentioned in my first review, plus the steamer which I mentioned above. There is always a greeting card from the maid who cleaned the room before my arrival, which i think is a nice touch.
I unpacked quickly, cleaned myself up and headed out. As with my first review the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants and bars, as well as some places to do activities. The Lido area is a great area to be in, in my opinion.
New year brought with it a storm....but with exception of obviously not using the pool area, or the rooftop bar for obvious safety reasons. It was business as usual in the hotel. I also have to say that although there was a lot of rain, and I mean torrential rain! The staff kept the reception flood (which is tiled) immaculate and dry, which is obviously important in keeping people from slipping and falling.
I had breakfast in the morning, which is a buffet style all you can eat. The kitchen staff and waiting staff do a great job of keeping the food area stocked, as well as cleaning up the tables etc. This can get hectic at peak time in the morning, but the staff handle it with ease.
I did use the gym while I was there, which as I said has had a bit of a refurbishment. Its a good gym and will help you burn off all the great Madeiran food and drink you're gong to consume during your stay. Due to the abnormal weather that the island was experiencing, there were only really 4 good days of sunshine, which I took advantage of. As always the area was kept immaculate, the pool was clean and had a bit of temperature in it. The staff were around to bring drink and food if I wanted it. It is funny to see how we are from different countries. I'm sitting in the sun bathing with shorts on, while the staff have layers of clothing on. Being Scottish, once the temp gets to mid teens 15/16c thats warm to us....not the Madeirans 😂

In summary if you want details of the hotel and rooms read my first review. I love the Allegro! I have stayed in a five star hotel in Madeira due to being put up in it by Jet2, as we couldn't leave Madeira that day due to a storm. I am aware it was only one night, but I found the staff and the hotel a bit cold! I honestly was going to run along the road and see if I could have my room for another night 😋
The hotel has great facilities, food, drink, chill out areas to congregate, rooms are great and have everything you could need. It's adults only, which is a massive plus for what I'm looking for. But what sets the Allegro apart from the rest in my opinion is the staff of the hotel. Lovely people who will do all they can to make you feel at home and attend to your needs and go above and beyond for you. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and I can't wait to be back in October for visit number 8, to celebrate my birthday on my favourite island with my favourite hotel in the world.

Pros:

The sounds of demolishon work of the hotel across the street will make you crazy during the day from 9am to 6 pm, they just started and will finish in 2027! Avoid any hotels or residence around!

A very pleasant , stay
Pros:

Very nice hotel , nice & clean , the food is great , breakfast are plentiful and varied choices . The staff smiles all the time which gives a great atmosphere. The rooms are very adequate with a choice of large and small , the views of the ocean & city are beautiful day & night . The location is a enjoyable 30 min walk to the old city , sounds like a lot but it's a beautiful walk also the option to walk away from the city on seaside on the lido walk is amazing! Many many restaurants and small grocery stores around , and a quiet night cap on the rooftop bar is just sublime . Good value , great atmosphere, plenty to do and great food and rooftop bar , and kind staff what more do you look for ? Enjoy life !

Lovely stay
Pros:

The hotel is in an excellent location, the food is delicious, the staff friendly, good facilities such as gym, rooftop bar, sauna. The only drawback was the cleanliness of the room. They never dust bed side tables, they don’t mop the balconies.

January hotel stay
Pros:

Lovely friendly staff. Helpful with my husband's gluten free breakfast. Good choice at breakfast.
Would recommend the slightly larger hotel room when staying for 2 weeks or more. Rooms clean, bed very comfy with a mattress topper on. Heating works well as the temperature drops overnight in January.
Location close to Lido area and 30 minute walk into Funchal. Lots of buses available from bus stops outside hotel.

Nice location with great staff
Pros:

This property is perfectly located near a wide choice of shops, restaurants, and bars, with the added bonus of beautiful sea views. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the hotel is immaculately clean throughout. Rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and well equipped with modern amenities, including a large TV and excellent WiFi. The hotel is around 25 minutes from the airport by taxi (approximately €50).

Madeira itself is a stunning and diverse island, though its mountainous terrain can make walking challenging, particularly for those with mobility issues. Taxis can be expensive, but Bolt offers a much more affordable alternative. Driving requires confidence, as roads are steep, winding, and driven on the opposite side. P.S Taxi drivers will drive way over the speed limit regardless of road or weather conditions. During our late-December visit, temperatures were around 20°C, with far less rain than forecast and the sun returned quickly, especially in the south, while the north is noticeably greener and wetter.

Food and drink were surprisingly affordable, cheaper than mainland Portugal or Spain. The island’s scenery is breathtaking, from dramatic northern cliffs and volcanic pools to the sunnier southern coast. Overall, we were extremely impressed with Madeira and would happily return.

Excellent
Pros:

This has to be the most welcoming hotel we've ever been to. We were checked in with smiles and warmth.

ALL of the bar staff (especially Dora and the Manager- sorry I didn't catch his name) were lovely. The lady that serviced our room was always bubbly and smiling and the room was immaculate.

We fell in love with Madeira and without hesitation we will book this hotel again.

Also, a special thanks to Elsa for her knowledge and advice.

Another wonderful holiday at The Allegro Madeira
Pros:

I was back at the wonderful Allegro Madeira for my third year running. This hotel is one of the friendliest I have ever been to. You are treated as an individual here and they will do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. They really care. I love the views from both 306 and 406 which I was in this time. Lovely ocean views and private on the balcony. I have to say a great big thank you to Elsa, Guest Experience Manager, who is an asset to the hotel and to the Barcelo Group. She is brilliant at her job and goes above and beyond to offer help and advice and welcomes guests with such professionalism and enthusiasm. The reception team are the best in Madeira in my opinion- as I said, they treat you as a much valued guest and an individual. Dora is still working in the restaurant and is so kind and friendly and her morning smile is really appreciated. Ricardo, the chef, provided some vegan options and made me cakes. All presented beautifully. All the other chefs and waiting staff are so nice. Thank you again to everyone at The Allegro Madeira for making my stay so memorable. I will be back in March. Até Março ☺️
