A lovely old hotel, with beautiful views and very friendly and helpful staff. The bedrooms were comfortable but signs of it being tired (the towels need to be changed, cracked toilet seats, shower unit kept coming out). Lovely stay and fab breakfast… just needs a little investment
We enjoyed our stay here in a large room with modern bathroom. All staff were very welcoming and friendly, felt homely. The breakfast was delicious. The view of the lake at the front of the hotel was stunning - we enjoyed being able to sit and watch the sunsets. Our only negative point was the poor wifi if you need it (which we did to remotely work so this was a struggle). Otherwise we would happily return.
Amazing place full of character, friendly people, great breakfast
Beautiful location overlooking Thirlmere. Lovely old building, in need of a little TLC & modernisation. Friendly staff. We stayed in a superior room, which had a recently refurbished bathroom which was good. Bed way too soft for my taste & I’d expect bigger than a double in a superior room. Breakfast was ok
an amazing place for some quiet time and lots of walks around
This hotel is lovely old building with lots of charm and character. The views are amazing. Breakfast is excellent
We where upgraded to a superior room with patio, the views where spectacular, great to sit out in the morning with a coffee and see the sunset come up on the water and hills, unfortunately the soundproofing in the rooms is poor. Apart from your room there is no other facilities at this house, which we found disappointing. Breakfast was very average and small portions, which we felt a little disappointed with.
First visit, easy to find with drive on A591. Good parking. Magical setting with access to lakeside walk from gardens. Silence and darkness over Thirlemere at night, stars beautiful. Feels like staying over at home of friends in traditional not overdeveloped property. Breakfast piping hot. Will be visiting again.
The only good thing about this hoyel is the view from the front door. Rooms are old and bed clothes smell of damp. Cobwebs everywhere but the dust makes them.look worse. Furniture dates from pre war. Mattress had more bumps than a golf ball. Wifi terrible. Tv was temperamental at best. Avoid.
We only stayed one night, but its dated, makes it feel dirty, the bed felt like every spring had gone
If the price was right i would stay again, however its twice what it should be considering the facility
On a good note breakfast was lovely and the staff couldnt do enough for you.
Great staff and fantastic views, very short walk to footpath for Helvellyn. Great lake walk straight out of the back of the hotel.
Decor a little dated, but cosy and well worth the money. Breakfast is very nice as well.
Loved the lake view. Property a bit tired and would benefit from refurbishment
Great
Excellent hospitality
Great views while enjoying a cuppa :-)
Shower took a while to get to an acceptable temperature and water pressure very poor. Everything else as expected for an older property
The location was perfect . The bartender , cook and receptionist did a perfect job - it was all Dale - he was great . The hotel and view could not have been better .
Character old house set in a picturesque quiet location.
family run and friendly, good breakfast.
centrally located to make exploring the lakes easy.
would stay here again.
Great location, attentive staff, comfortable quiet room. Pub serving evening meals just across the road.
