Excellent hotel. Breathtaking architecture and location. Highly recommended. Clarity about car parking would be useful
We traveled across northern Spain and toured many little villages as well as touristy places. Santiago de Compostela ( old city) was by far the favorite place and the gorgeous parador was wonderful. We had a lovely room that looked out on to a courtyard. The location was perfect and the restaurants were excellent as well.
Stayed here just after finishing the Camino. It was such a treat and a very welcome rest in luxury.
Our room was beautiful and spacious.
Breakfast was incredible and booking a time slot is a great idea so that it doesn’t get overly crowded. There was such a huge selection.
Definitely worth a stay and will be back
Not worth the expense! We are here now, customer service has been non existent from the dismissive front desk staff to the bellboys. Walked the Camino and were ready for such a nice stay based on reviews. Front desk unwelcoming, cold. Bellboys and front desk assured us they would notify when rooms were ready and bring luggage(on Camino transfer) to the rooms, neither happened. Checked back rooms ready, no luggage. Back 3 hours later, they said no luggage, fortunately we could see our actual luggage in the storage room which we identified. They shrugged, let us grab it but no offer to help/transport. We were puzzled as we have been friendly, patient and are booked in their suites. Surprised at the complete absence of customer service in such a highly rated hotel. Maybe it's just this one, but we will avoid Paradores in our travels and suggest you do the same
What a majestic place (palace). One of the finest establishments we have ever stayed. From the 15th century, the modernization is beyond description. Excellent rooms, service, meals and location. Worthwhile to book and enjoy the ultimate experience.
We booked this hotel as a spurge just a few weeks before our trip. It was absolutely worth it! The incredible charm of the hotel and the attention of the staff made for a top ten travel experience ever! Walking through the courtyards you can't not think about all the travelers who have come before you over the centuries.
Great historic location with wonderful ambiance and modern accommodations. One of the finest experiences to enjoy what Santiago has to offer.
The room needs an update. Bathroom has been remodeled nicely. Food at the restaurant was okay. There are other restaurants in walking distance that have better food at a moderate price. You are paying for the name “Parador” nothing else. Not worth the money.
Room was hot, when I complained they said they had no AC and to open the windows. My room was next to a very loud street. When I opened the windows it was extremely loud plus folks walking by look directly into the room and bathroom. When I asked for a fan or to be moved they would not do either. For the price of the room and for the fact that it was advertised that they have AC, I was very disappointed. The staff was less than helpful and just shrugged. If you are perimenopausal woman or hot natured, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This is in no way a 5 star hotel.
Hotel and location are incredible. This would have been a 5 star review but the staff in the restaurant were awful. Unwelcoming, supercilious and when they got our order wrong, they angrily accused us of being wrong, kept us waiting for the correct meal and offered no apology. A scar on what could have been a perfect stay. All the other staff were great.
I loved this Parador, such a good location and so much history.
Food was outstanding, and staff was very helpful.
In general I love Paradores, but this one is special.
We’ve stayed at a few Paradores over the past couple of years - Santiago is our high point. The location, building, history… there’s nothing like stepping outside of the hotel - directly onto the square and watching Pilgrims from all over the world enter ecstatically. Santiago is a very special place and the Parador is a great place to sit and watch it all unfold.
Nice room. But was very noisy at night. Next to very loud elevator and on a street people partied on st night. Did not sleep well either night. Restaurant was ok. This hotel is not worth the money. Would not stay there again.
Love the property because it’s the front of Plaza Obradorio.
Great
We arrived in Santiago de Compostela and decided to look around before finding accommodation. As soon as we saw the Parador, we knew we wanted to stay there. The location. The architecture. The charm. It is a dream venue. We spoke to Adrian on reception about booking, and he was amazing. So helpful. He gave us the perfect start to our time in Santiago, from arranging a family room, to organising our luggage, and the valet parking of our car. All the staff were great throughout our stay, but we would like to give a special thanks to Adrian for making us feel so welcome
Wonderful building, unfortunately undergoing extensive restoration. Very popular tourist location, as it’s next to the cathedral, the quarter-hourly bells of Which do not cease until midnight, then start again at 4am. Excellent service, dinner and breakfast. Cheap alcohol!!
A wonderful experience from the moment we stepped into the hotel! Great hospitality, location, and experience!!
If you’re going to Santiago, you are probably interested in the cathedral and the associated catholic culture. There is no better place to experience that than the oldest hotel in Spain that has housed pilgrims for centuries. Classic old world charm that adds to your whole experience in the city. Wake up almost in the cathedral itself.
All other things are 5 star as you’d expect, including valet parking right at the door.
We had a fantastic experience as a couple without kids.
We have visited Santiago de Compostela as we have relatives nearby. As we were bringing my son, Daughter-in-Law and Granddaughter for their first rip to Spain, we decided to book the Parador. What an exciting experience for all. Just to be surrounded by the history and location was memorable. the entire stay was seamless, from check-in to check-out. These folks make hospitality an art. The breakfast was all one could ask for and, having the chance to eat at both restaurants, the quality was spot on for everyone. Since we left before breakfast on our final day, the front destk had to go bagged breakfast for all five of us. Thanks for the memorable visit.
After this experience, the Paradors are the only hotel I will consider when traveling in Spain.
Just one tiny suggestion - put a can of oil on every housekeeping cart. The doors are old and heavy and a few squeak loudly.
