Location is excellent, the hotel is quite large with a large restaurant
Difficult to find staff at times, all a bit quiet till the coach party turned up, went down for meal which was a bit pub foodish , not a big selection but very busy because of the coach party, food a bit slow coming out, same problem for me for breakfast with coach party.
Staff very pleasant.
Service very slow. Room adequate, but bed small, window security broken, bathroom window and blind mouldy, TV at a terrible oblique angle to the bed. Whole building seemed rather tired and definitely not worth £200.
Beautiful location and lovely staff.
Nothing
Sheetan and the staff were very helpful and attentive without being intrusive. The room was incredibly comfortable after a days work in the area.
There was nothing I didn't like or would change.
Location is ideal, with great access to cycle route.
Hotel is very dated and needs refurbishment. Rooms feel cheap and like a hostel.
Bar staff could have been more helpful.
Ligging
Hygiene
Onvriendelijk
Setting very nice, staff very helpful especially when I lost my car keys
Nothing
Location right beside the locks was fantastic. Vessels used them the three days we stayed at hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially Sheetal in the restaurant. Our room had a balcony that overlooks the locks much to our enjoyment.
L emplacement le petit déjeuner le personnel
Everything - especially the view Ben Nevis from our window
The long route up and down stairs to get to our room
Location and view
We had to be relocated to another room after the first night due to the lack of maintenance on the property. The room above had water leaks, causing water to come through the ceiling into the bathroom .The toilet seat was not secure, and it didn't flush properly, lacking soap in dispenser and poor soundproofing between floors.
You cannot fault the location of this hotel. You walk out onto the Caledonian Canal and the Neptunes Staircase to see the top of Ben Nevis in all its magnificent glory and the surrounding views. The staff were very friendly and trying very hard to make things work. The managers and ladies at breakfast were brilliant. I apologise for not remembering everyone’s name but the restaurant staff at breakfast, our waitress, the restaurant manager and in particular, Sheetal were brilliant.
Well!!!
This is not a 4* hotel. It may have been sometime ago but not at the moment. It’s very tired and needs a lot of work and more staff to make it so again. They are dog friendly but our room did not afford a lot of space for 2 relatively small dogs. Very nice shower and bath room. Comfortable bed.
Had to ask for a change of kettle which was swapped very quickly. And I went to move one of the bedside tables to plug into a socket but one of the heavy legs fell away putting a small dent in my shin. This was reported at the same time as the kettle and we were assured it would be repaired.
That didn’t happen. No air conditioning in the room and it was very warm in the room until the sun disappeared behind the mountain. The windows only open to allow limited air to flow through them.
Sadly our room was not serviced despite putting the sign on the door to request this so our bins went un emptied, our towels and our tea and coffee went un replenished so luckily we managed over 4 nights. We are very clean people so made the best of the service to dry the towels and reuse them.
We are now in a 3* hotel in Northumbria and the hotel and room is far superior to the Moorings. This one deserves a 4* rating yet thrives on its 3* rating.
A lesson for the management at the Moorings hotel. Your guests are not all dishonest but your desire to take a payment for a cold buffet breakfast before we sit down could quite easily be put on our room bill. Sadly we could not upgrade to a suite with more room because they are not dog friendly rooms.
More space would have been a better stay.
Would I return??
To Fort William yes, but not this one until some work is done to revive its 4* ratings.
Please don’t be too keen to take our money because we’re not all dishonest and trying to rip you off.
