The property itself was beautiful. The restaurant was also fantastic - dinner was wonderful. The reception staff were friendly and check in was done nicely. The rooms were also lovely.
In general it felt that despite the wonderful location and the good nature of the staff, this property is very much set up to have hotel guests feel like an after thought. For example Of all the 5 paradors and luxury hotels we stayed at on this trip, only this venue chose to charge us for an extra bed; or the fact that guests have to pay extra for the spa (despite there being no free pool available to use); or for example one evening I wanted to wander round the property but was shooed out by a gentleman giving a guided tour to visitors; or that breakfast was not included in the rate (and there is nowhere else to really eat breakfast in the close by vicinity) and we were limited in terms of the slots we could come down to eat at (without being told to reserve in advance), and likewise, there was no availability for dinner on the day we arrived because of lots of out of town visitors (again - they really shoudl inform guests to book in advance). None of these things necessarily made the hotel bad - in fact our stay was rather pleasant - but compared to the other venues (paradors, pousadas) of a similar ilk that we have stayed at, this hotel was quite lacking in the special individualised touches that made those othervenues so special.
