Be ready to walk a bit, first from the parking to the reception, then from reception to the room. Although shopping was nearby, the walk was back to reception, then around the building to the shopping centre.
If you see something missing, ask. The staff are very polite but don't offer. Oddly, they have equipment like irons but they don't keep track of the room where the iron is so there is a good chance they won't be able to find one for you.
The room was spartan, but clean and comfortable. The building is a short walk to a strip mall with many restaurants and shopping outlets.
The discrciption stated E.V charger available, the were but at the farthess point of the parking lot, a good 7 minute walk back to the entrance at a rapid pace. And walking from the front desk to the room was through a lovely courtyard but with suitcases and an other 3 minutes walk. If you want to get your steps in, i guess it's not bad. The pictures on the make the place look better then it is in real life. The beds were hard. It's probably good enough for a young student as it is a University residence. If you want the cheapest possible room and you dont care about confort and convenience, this is it.
We love staying here as a stopover when we go from Toronto to Quebec. It’s simple and spacious and the rooms come with a kitchenette and full sized fridge! When we're traveling as a family, we appreciate having 2 separate bedrooms in one "suite". Just a note: the blankets were encased in 2 sheets so it didn’t look like there was a blanket on the bed (I wish someone in reception had explained that to me when I asked for blankets). Also, the walk to your room can be pretty far (which I didn't mind, but was more difficult for my 82-year-old, mom). Overall, this is a quiet, clean, simple and affordable accommodation.
V good
Nice check in and check out, no fuss
Maybe needs airvents cleaned up.
Good location and price . As everything needed for a quick visit
Mattress was much softer than I like, and I could have used another cover.
It was good stay.
Ac was not working , lights don’t work .. poor condition. Spend 20-30$ more and stay at a better place
Somehow I expected nicer room as per pictures. It was okay, just a regular collage room for students.
It’s a dorm room on a sprawling residences.
There’s only one way in and out of the residences and my dorm room was almost as far away from the main door as you could get, at least an 8 minute walk just to get to the front door, another 10-12 to a Starbucks. Of you have any mobility issues (like me), then this is not the place for you. You can always ask for a different unit, but during my visit, they’re fully booked.
An 8 minute walk doesn’t sound like much, but there’s only one baggage cart for somewhere around 300+ rooms, It didn’t seem to be available during my entire 4 day stay. So if you have multiple bags, be prepared for multiple trips back and forth to if you can’t lug everything at once. Even with a cane, and knowing how far I had to carry my bags, the staff didn’t offer to help.
The beds are comfortable and there’s a kitchenette but don’t expect anything in the room besides a microwave and a fridge that leaks condensation across the kitchen floor in the middle of the night.
No coffee machine, no kettle, no plates or bowls Nothing you can use in the microwave, nothing that makes the kitchette useful. So bring everything you need. There are lots of empty drawers.
With all the other options available in Ottawa, I will not be staying at Algonquin Residences again. Residences is marginally cheaper than other places, but what you save in a little bit of money, you lose in convenience and service.
We were on the main ground floor close to the reception. The first this you notice was the smell immidiately you open the door to the section of the building, you can tell its an old building from the smell. The beds were very uncomfortable. with very flat pillows. None of the sockets on the walls were working. only the socket on the table lamp works.
You offered a kitchen, but did not mention that there were no plates, cups, cutlery or kettle. The bed was terrible - it sagged. The walls were full of holes that looked like cockroaches at night. There was no mention on the website that parking would cost extra.
The receptionist was friendly and helpful.
Not as cheap as used to be. great staff. need hiking boots or roller skates to get from parking to front desk to rooms. Need more luggage carts for the trip. Please, have a door activated direct to the parking lot 10: works all year for students so obviously safe.
Would highly recommend some basic upkeep. Walls damaged, trim peeling off the walls, floors not cleaned. Front desk struggles with communication.
Bed comfortable. Food options nearby
The property is surrounded by large selection of fast food like McDonald’s, Popeyes, Subway, etc. The surrounding is quiet and the soundproof is good. The only downside about the property is that the air from the air conditioning would be directly blow to you and it’s really chill in summer. If you don’t like it then might not consider the place.
The entrance to the centre,is on Navaho not on Woodroffe
Sadly, the overall experience was unpleasant. I stayed two weeks and discovered that there’s infrequent cleaning service, not-so-infrequent fire alarms, no recycling service, and no supplies in the kitchens, not even for coffee or tea. The rooms are far away from the entrance and there’s only one way in and out of the residence. The communal kitchens I frequented were dingy and half the ovens were either missing racks or not working.
The fridge in our unit broke down during our stay and I had to stay in the room to sort it out and wait around for a replacement in order to prevent my food from spoiling. Not something I should be expected to do for them while I’m on vacation.
Also, the parking is ridiculously stressful and hostile to guests because it isn’t managed by the residence. You have to pay for parking separately every day so if you forget or delay then you risk getting a parking ticket. For long term stays you can get a parking pass but you have to go in person to the parking office which has limited hours and is closed on weekends. By the time you get to the office and pay for a pass you might have already been ticketed. If you do unfairly get a ticket you can either pay it or go through a time consuming and overly complicated ticket dispute process which may or may not result in its cancellation.
