The current 4-star rating associated with the Grand Nar Hotel is a profound misrepresentation of the property, and whoever evaluated it at that standard severely misjudged it. I urge all booking platforms, including Love Holidays, Expedia, and Booking.com, to follow TripAdvisor’s lead in removing this hotel from their listings effective Sunday, August 23rd. This establishment poses a severe safety risk, operates unprofessionally, and requires an immediate formal investigation.
During my stay in ground-floor Room 1029, I discovered the balcony door was entirely broken and incapable of locking. Upon reporting this critical security breach to the manager on three separate occasions, my concerns were continuously deflected as he repeatedly changed the subject. In a staggering display of unprofessionalism, the maintenance worker who came to look at it took it upon himself to place his foot in the door track to create the physical illusion of a functioning lock, blatantly attempting to deceive me. Adding insult to injury, I later observed this same maintenance worker operating on scaffolding to repair a minor cosmetic crack in the ceiling, prioritizing superficial aesthetics over a guest's fundamental physical safety.
From the moment I entered the establishment, my hypervigilance kicked in immediately. The staff's overall conduct was highly inappropriate and invasive. I was subjected to suspicious, probing questions regarding my personal income and whether I had family waiting for me back home, while the manager actively scanned me for valuables, taking clear notice of my watch. Given the compromised security of my ground-floor room, these inquiries and behaviors felt entirely predatory. I was left with the distinct, unsettling impression that I was being targeted for a potential robbery before the end of my trip.
This lack of security severely restricted my holiday. Unable to safely leave my valuables in my room, I was forced to carry my passport, phone, and wallet on a boat excursion. Consequently, I was unable to participate in any water activities, as my passport was in my pocket and is not waterproof, which entirely ruined the experience.
Furthermore, the hotel's spa service appears to engage in fraudulent practices. After I disclosed a genuine back issue, the spa staff pressured me into paying 2,500 Lira upfront for a specialized "medical massage." The appointment was never fulfilled. When I confronted management the following morning, the staff feigned total ignorance. The manager—who was noticeably hungover—also played dumb, leaving me to suspect my money was misappropriated to fund his evening out. Meanwhile, the hotel’s overarching boss was completely unapproachable, as he was entirely preoccupied with surveilling the Russian guests at breakfast like a prison warden rather than addressing a clear theft on his premises.
The psychological toll of staying here was immense. The refrigerator adjacent to my broken balcony door frequently made a clicking noise identical to a sliding door opening. To ensure my physical safety, I was forced to barricade the broken door with the heavy refrigerator and balance an ashtray on the bottom rails to serve as a makeshift alarm system in the event of an intrusion. Consequently, I endured two days on a mere three hours of sleep, trapped in a state of high anxiety.
While the pool and room cleanliness were adequate, the catering consisted of repetitive, generic meals every single day. Ultimately, the situation became so untenable that I utilized the Love Holidays support chat to arrange a discreet, emergency transfer. I paid £550 out of pocket to relocate to the Naturella Apart Hotel—a 3-star property that felt like a 10-star luxury resort by comparison. Due to the overt hostility of the Grand Nar's manager, I felt compelled to sneak off the premises without notifying the staff.
The Grand Nar Hotel is an unsafe establishment managed by individuals who engage in exploitative and deceptive practices. Room 1029, alongside the entire operation, demands a comprehensive investigation. I strongly advise all travelers to avoid this property under any circumstances.
