Amazing arrival, stay, and departure experiences. The room service and restaurants are excellent. The stores in the hotel and on nearby streets are top of the line. The variety of bars on King street is very good. The atmosphere of the hotel makes you feel like you’re always on vacation.
The valet Zachary, the bellmen Ben and Jackson and our desk clerk Mikela , were all absolutely fantastic. The rooms and the facility was over the top nice.
We realized late at night the room had AC issues. The front desk (Lauren and Aurora) was able to quickly reassign a room for me and made sure the new room did not have an issue before we moved. The new room had a faint new paint smell. My wife has asthma and found it difficult to sleep. Again the front desk re-accommodated quickly. Both incidents they sent a bellman to move all our luggage. The staff’s calm and empathetic demeanor prevented a stressful situation from escalating. Very much appreciated.
Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, I felt like I was home, thank you so much for having such great attention to detail in everything you do at this hotel!
Exceptional staff and accommodations! Fantastic attention to detail. The entire experience was beyond our expectations.
Great place to visit and Great Place to stay while in Charleston. Staff was excellent adn the hotel location is in the heart of everything.
Best hotel stay in a very long time. Staff always eager and happy to help and accommodate! From first door-woman to last bell-man and everyone in between! Also, its not too stuffy; if you come back from a bike ride (on their adorable bikes!), you don't feel out of place!
The suite was very poorly designed. The bathroom isn’t accessible from the bedroom. The vanity desk doesn’t have a mirror that you can use. The door to the bedroom is glass, which means if one guest is up earlier or later the light in the living room disturbs the one trying to sleep. There was only a shower and no bathtub. They didn’t disclose they were under construction which could be heard from the room. ….
But hotel staff was amazing, hospitable, kind and professional.
Great place to stay, food excellent, and friendly staff. Rooms were pristine, and room had a beautiful view of bridge in background.
We have held our business meeting at this location for well over 10 years. As I understand it is under new ownership and they are remodeling. We were unable to stay last year due to the remodeling. They are nowhere near completion, except for the arrival area. The rooms are average, have not been remodeled, and are not on the floor where they placed us. In fact, the floor above us was clearly undergoing renovations. We also have our breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets here. The food was less than expected. I believe I have had a better Hampton buffet. Disappointment is not even the word I am looking for, but it is the kindest.
Amazing hotel in a wonderful location. Every detail is taken care of. I never tip housekeeping, and I left a very large tip this time. Every time we left the room we came back and it was in better shape than when we first arrived. When they saw that I had sunglasses out on the counter, they left me a cloth to polish them Strange to think that it made such a big impact but it really did make you feel at home.
Our overall experience was very positive. From arrival, the team was attentive and helpful with luggage and made the process feel easy and welcoming. Throughout our stay, the service was warm and consistent, and it often felt like our needs were anticipated. Everything flowed smoothly, which made for a very comfortable and relaxing experience.
My stay at The Charleston Place from April 1–5 was overshadowed by what I have every reason to believe was a bedbug issue—something no guest should ever encounter, especially at a property that presents itself as five-star.
I documented everything thoroughly, including photos, and reported it immediately. What followed was not resolution, but dismissal. The hotel relied on claims of third-party inspections to deny the issue, yet despite requesting the extermination reports multiple times, I was never provided with any documentation. No transparency, no meaningful explanation, and no real concern for what I experienced.
Let’s be clear: the most troubling part was not just the incident—it was how it was handled. There was no accountability. I incurred out-of-pocket expenses dealing with the aftermath, and the hotel has refused to take responsibility in any meaningful way. Instead, I was offered a future stay at the same property for one night, an offer that is both impractical (as I live out of state) and completely misses the point. After this experience, returning is simply not an option.
For a hotel that markets itself as luxury, the response was anything but. A five-star property should meet serious concerns with urgency, transparency, and genuine guest care—not denial and deflection.
If this is how The Charleston Place handles legitimate guest issues, the “five-star” label is highly questionable.
Wow. We were blown away.
With other nearby hotels $3000+ per night, we “settled” on The Charleston Place.
This place was Ritz+ … gorgeous, just remodeled rooms, spectacular lobby preserving old while looking brand new, over-the-top food, and superb, superb service.
The location couldn’t be more convenient. Highly recommend.
WE have been coming here since it opened in 1986 and have never been disappointed. We have had once in a lifetime events there as in my son's wedding and also Rehearsal dinner at the Riviera Theater. We go 5 to 6 times a year and enjoy the stay immensely . The last year and a half has been a little complicated as they have done extensive and beautiful remodeling, but there is no hotel to compare with the Carleton Place!!
We had an outstanding experience here. Despite the ongoing renovations, the hotel had a flawless presentation. The people we met who worked here were friendly and nice. They made our entire family feel very welcome. The room was beautiful and the club lounge had the best food. Only down point was that the fitness area was surprisingly small. Overall, I’d recommend this place to friends and family.
Came in for business with 25 people. Not a single complaint. Perfect hotel experience from the staff to the room to the food. Every box checked.
Our stay could not have been more lovely. From the top notch assistance from doormen, to wait staff. Everyone was exceedingly helpful. Bessie, insured our arrival was seamless as we navigated the construction and repeatedly asked whenever we saw him if we needed anything. This was a first class experience and we look forward to visiting again.
Our stay at The Charleston Place was nothing short of exceptional—truly a five-star experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by warm, personable staff at check-in who immediately set the tone for the visit. The room itself was beautifully appointed—spacious, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. I had called ahead to request fresh flowers, and the arrangement exceeded expectations, adding a perfect personal touch. The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring both a rain shower and handheld option with excellent water pressure and consistently hot temperature. Even small details stood out, like the quiet, efficient flush of the toilet—clearly a property that pays attention to comfort at every level.
Dinner at the Daniel Humm restaurant was a highlight—an easy 10/10. The captain who took care of us was genuinely kind and attentive, and the sommelier was outstanding. Even if you’re not deeply into wine, she’s worth engaging with just to experience her passion and knowledge. We did encounter a minor issue with the air conditioning, but it was resolved within 20 minutes of our call—an impressive response that speaks volumes about the level of service here. Room service was also excellent, delivering a hot, delicious breakfast right on time. The concierge team went above and beyond by helping us arrange a private sailing charter, which turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our trip. While the pool area and part of the valet space were under renovation, we were aware of this ahead of time, and it had minimal impact on our stay. Overall, The Charleston Place delivers on every level—service, comfort, dining, and attention to detail. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly refined and seamless hotel experience.
