The Charleston Place

Our experience was wonderful! The staff was very kind and hospitable, my family felt very welcomed and taken cared of. We had Steve bring up the bags and Rosevelt bring them down after calling for the car, making our arrival and departure smooth and easy.

Sister & I thoroughly enjoyed 3 nights at this fabulous hotel. Kate at Registration was professional & delightful. Kelly our concierge was so helpful in finding the right tour for us, thank you Kelly. Amari at checkout was so nice, Theresa, Dan & Sandy at Club room were pleasant and made us feel very comfortable. If you want a top shelf location, courteous & welcoming staff then Charleston Place is your stay.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about The Charleston Place. We are so in love with this property and the people who work there that we have now stayed there more than 10 times, including several major holidays. The beauty of the property will capture your attention, but the people who work there will capture your heart. And, we are happy to report that over the years, the staff has remained predominantly unchanged. Shout out to Roosevelt (our toddler’s best friend) , Sam (our toddler’s second best friend), Bessis, Christina, Angel, Lauren, Steve, Shruti and so many others I’m forgetting. Each staff member has made such a memorable impression on our family and really makes the hotel feel like a home away from home.

In addition to the amazing hospitality, the hotel is gorgeous from head to toe. From the moody bar where you can always make a new friend, the iconic lobby with grand fresh flower centerpieces every day, the posh Palmetto Cafe for long breakfasts, the lavish rooms, the gorgeous ballrooms that host ticketed holiday events, the great shopping literally right below you, and so much more - it is a home run. Additionally, the location of the hotel is really in the heart of everything - right in the center of the best part of downtown, in my opinion. A very nice, new addition is the hotel’s house car that has helped us get to and from dinner many a rainy night or fussy toddler night where we needed a quick ride back. We can’t wait to go back. Booked on their website and called ahead of time to get two double beds.Waited hours for our room because they were trying to force a king on us because they were overbooked for a tennis tournament. We finally got our room and decided to get call for room service. My daughter got food poisoning from the spicy tuna sticky rice that came from one of their restaurants. 3 nights 4 days ruined. Construction above us started at 8am-8:30am and we had no cold water at one point. I sent them an email in reference to my stay and nothing. The manager tried to help but there was really nothing he could offer us and quite frankly I don’t think they really cared to offer us anything because they were way over their heads with the tournament. Such a disappointment this city is charming, full of rich history and just beautiful. Such a shame. My poor kids were totally cheated out of their spring break in Charleston!

The Charleston Place is beyond any visitors expectations. Atmosphere, food, hotel employees go beyond any experience I have ever encountered. It has been an ongoing tradition for our family to visit yearly during the Charleston Tennis Open. Thank you to all staff!!!

The service at The Charleston Place was above and beyond. We really enjoyed our stay here. Our valet Bessis was very kind and prompt. Would highly recommend the hotel to anyone. It’s a must stay!

Such an amazing time spent at the hotel for the charleston open. Between the exceptional room service to the morning breakfast, whom the amazing blonde host was so attentive and helpful every morning. This place is truly a dream, Sam H was also such a bright light of an employee.

Location was excellent

I left three books on a bedside table and came back to find that housekeeping had placed a stitched, leather CP bookmark on top of the short pile. I left my glasses case on the bureau and went out for a walk and came back to find a square envelope tucked underneath, containing a CP cleaning cloth.

Perhaps you see these as little things, but to me, they point to the emphasis that The Charleston Place places on truly outstanding customer service. Step out of an Uber and by the time you get to the front door, you’re greeted by name. I came in early (on a red-eye flight) and was in my room by 11:00 am. And the room was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. Yes, there was noise from ongoing construction. That will end soon. And I’d very happily visit again.

Beautiful facility; horrible experience. The physical facility is one of the top hotels we’ve been to. The staff was untrained and could not clear the valet area so we had to park in a city garage 3 blocks away and carry our bags on a city street. Construction noise on the ceiling of our room was unbearable. Our dinner reservation had been booked for a week before they realized the restaurant was not even open that night. An attendant woke us up delivering towels to the wrong room.

It was great to be greeted by Sam. We especially loved the Palmetto breakfast with Alicia and Jacqueline. Such a positive and great tennis experience. This is our 4th year and looking forward to next year!!! CP is top notch fine hotel. I especially thank American Express for promoting this hotel!!! Have a blessed Easter!!! Hastings Family. Overall hotel is well-maintained and decor is timeless. The room is a bit dated, but clean and functional. However, expect cold showers (not even lukewarm) that do not get fixed even after requesting the front desk for engineers to be sent up. When I arrived at night, I hopped into the shower after running it for a few minutes, hoping it would get warm, but after waiting a little longer, I just went for it wanting desperately to hop into bed. The next day, I told the front desk and they said they would send someone up to fix it. I returned to the hotel in the afternoon, no note from the front desk, assuming they fixed it, and finally I could take a hot shower. That evening, I ran the water for 5 minutes, still cold, another 5 minutes, still cold. They did not fix it, notify me, or offer me another solution for another room. I was only staying another night after that so I didn't want to hassle anyone and just sucked up another couple of cold showers. Eventually the last night, I caught a cold, tried to request late check out, but was only given until noon due to being "fully booked". However, after checking with my colleagues, one was able to get her room until 2:30PM. It was disappointing the non-service I received for the stay. I hope others will have a better experience if choosing to stay here.

Had the pleasure of breakfast at the Palmetto. Breakfast was extremely good and had the good fortune of having Hal as my server. He was was an extremely engaging individual and made the experience much more enjoyable than simply dining alone. He is/was a credit to his profession, and I am happy to extend my appreciation for his services.

All the Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. First class experience! Rooms and hotel were wonderful. Great location as we could walk everywhere as we explored Charleston. Lauren recommended Chef Daniel Humm restaurant on the property. Great recommendation! Wonderful staff, drinks and food!

Just be aware of the construction because you will be woken at 7am and it doesn’t stop. Even on Saturday morning we were woken by the loudest banging that didn’t stop for HOURS. The lack of amenities, and some workers don’t exactly care, they are too busy talking to other employees.

What an absolutely beautiful hotel. The location was great & it was so nice to walk everywhere. The rooms were immaculate & decorated beautifully. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The lobby smells amazing. Wish I could've stayed longer!
