We got to our room and checked the bed and the mattress covers were filthy dirty and had black hair all over them. Within 5-10 minutes we chose to leave and told the hotel we were not comfortable and we wanted a refund. I’m working with them but they are telling us we aren’t getting our money back. I am very upset it ruined our entire weekend we had to drive 2 1/2 hours home and cancel all of our plans. It was disgusting.

Convenient location and spacious rooms
Pros:

We had a large room which was great for several days. It was comfortable. There were healthy breakfast options.

Cons:

The furniture and pillows need to be updated. The wall unit for AC or heat is noisy. The most annoying thing was that we were awakened at midnight by a phone call from the front desk telling us there was a complaint that we were making noise. We had been sound asleep for two hours. The person who called obviously made a mistake and there was not an apology. A mistake - but it was not handled well.

We had a nice time visiting Ashland again. This is a nice place to stay.
Pros:

The room was really nice; the breakfast is very good; the location was perfect for us. We lived in Ashland 50 years ago, so we know our way around town and the restaurants, etc. The Stratford is perfectly located for our visit.

Cons:

No complaints at all. I would have used the pool if it were outside -- but that's not an easy fix. Great property; helpful staff. Good place to stay.

I will stay here again!
Pros:

This hotel is family owned and operated. It is charming and sweet and full of thoughtful touches - there is a library and Shakespeare memorabilia everywhere. The hotel is very dog friendly with a little "dog park" in the parking lot with poop bags and grass and benches. The breakfast is great for a complimentary hotel breakfast - Greek yogurt, granola, good coffee and steel cut oats. Yum! The beds are comfortable and water pressure is good (and hot). You can walk to "downtown", the theaters and restaurants easily.

Cons:

There is some deferred maintenance but it is cosmetic and it added to the charm.
