The a/c vents were dirty, received a dirty towel from the initial housekeeping, the room had an overbearing musty scent (possibly from the cloth couch &/ the bed skirt) and the shower was infested with sewer gnats (we keep a wet towel over the drain to keep them out). Extremely disappointed.
4th year, of 5 day stays, 4 months in a row, staying at Valentines Resort and Marina. Location and amenities were a strong 4 star in the beginning. But each year has gotten worse. Room maintenance has deteriorated but worse has been the staff and dining / bar area. Quality and speed of service and food has gotten horrible. Seems to be plenty of wait staff available but little desire to be attentive or diligent in their duties. Meanwhile menu choices have reduced and quality of food preparation has declined. Food / bar quality and service is a huge part of any resorts amenities. This decline can only be laid on management. It is a shame to see this decline as Valentines was a great experience all around. And could be again.
Valentines is a very nice resort in Harbour Island. It has a marina and nice restaurant and bar. If you go there ask for Curtis, he is like a super concierge. He will help you find anything you need. He made a big difference on the quality of our stay at Valentines.
Hard to review this place since while staying here I learned that each room is individually owned and therefore the quality and upkeep may depend on what room you get. The property itself is lovely, the common areas well maintained. The pool is great for kids and families (not for couples looking for quiet or serene). Our one bedroom townhouse was clean, the master bath is luxurious, bed comfy and overall, the room looks like what you see in the hotel pictures. But, the rugs and upholstery were a bummer and really need to be changed out. It doesn't need a complete overhaul - its needs small upgrades and someone to take a look around and care. The kitchen is very poorly equipped with trashy pots and pans. Our stove was completely nonfunctional. I wouldn't stay here again but I wouldn't not recommend it since at average $750/night it's an "affordable" option if you have kids with you. The housekeeping staff is awesome - so kind and friendly and clearly work so hard - but keep in mind in general this is a self-service marina hotel.
For the steep rates we have been charged we were expecting superior service, which is not what we have received:
On the first day, room cleaning was incomplete; the kitchen area was left entirely untouched.
On the second day, no cleaning was conducted at all. Despite service staff arriving at 4:30 PM and promising to clean the room shortly after, it was never completed.
Maintenance Issues:
TV cabinet door broken and the terrace mosquito screen detached remained unresolved
On our final night, the toilet flushing system failed. Upon inspection, I noticed severe rusting, which rendered the unit almost unusable.
All these issues were detailed also in a mail to the manager, after a month my mail is still unanswered, is this the customer focus a top-notch hotel is proud of?

We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and the hotel feel short in several areas. First off the room had an order and the temperature could not be adjusted. I'm a cancer patient and require cooler inside temperature. I called the front desk and was told that they would send maintenance. They never did and I inquired later that day if my money could be refunded because of my health issue. I was told NO. This was very astonishing and disappointing of how rude the front desk was on answering and responding to my simple request. We stayed 2 days and was glad to leave. The view was beautiful but we would rather spend more money for comfort and customer service that we have grown accustomed to. On the second day our bed was had sand in the sheets this was very upsetting. We would not stay here ever again.
We booked a 5-night stay at Valentine’s Resort and are currently on our third night, with two nights remaining. Here are several issues have detracted from the experience so far:
1. Noise Issues: The biggest problem is the noise from upstairs—every step, bathtub filling, and toilet flushing from upstairs is clearly audible. We requested a room change, but the issue persisted, confirming it’s the flooring. With the resort fully booked, we had no choice but to endure it. Last night, the guests above us returned after 11 PM, their loud footsteps echoing across the floor and waking us up. The noise continued for some time, making it impossible to fall back asleep and leaving us frustrated.
2. Housekeeping Concerns: Despite requesting service with the door sign, our room was not cleaned on the first day. On the second day, we returned to find that the bed was made, but no cleaning or towel replacement had been done. About an hour later, someone knocked and asked if we needed service. On the third day, we had to personally ask for housekeeping and fetch towels ourselves.
3. Room Maintenance: The drawer in the room wouldn’t stay closed, resulting in an injury when I accidentally hit the sharp corner. This could have been easily fixed.
4. Mosquito Troubles: A broken mosquito net led to a sleepless first night, with mosquitoes buzzing and leaving bites. This also could have been resolved with a simple fix.
At $1200 per night, we expected a much higher standard of service and comfort. While the resort’s location and potential are undeniable, these issues have significantly impacted our stay. This review is shared to help others make informed decisions.
In general, the property and staff were wonderful as you would expect at this price point. But the room itself left much to be desired: no full-length mirror, working lightbulbs, any hot water for the beautiful tub, light switches somewhat near the lights they controlled.
Island living with all of the amenities. The staff is very friendly and accomodating.
This is my very first time ever visiting the establishment and I can honestly say the staff are extremely welcoming especially our wonderful waitress Lucy. Normally I'm not good with names but she is UNFORGETTABLE!!! She was such a warm welcoming attentive server and we will definitely be returning!!!
Keep up the great work Lucy!
We visited the bar at Valentines a couple of times for drinks and lunch. The food was good, the drinks too. Staff very friendly and a great vibe. So on our last night on Harbour Island we booked for dinner. We went early for a drink at the bar. All ok. We decided to order an appetiser while at the bar. No hummus today. No artichoke dip. So we ordered a quesadilla. After some time our waitress asked how things were going and we said we were waiting for our quesadilla. She clearly hadn’t even ordered it, but did so then. We finished our drinks and were hoping to order some more. Waitress didn’t come near us. Eventually we decided to cut our losses and find dinner somewhere else, not wanting to spend our evening waiting and frustrated. When we went to pay for our drinks and tell them we were leaving, the waitress blamed the kitchen!!!!! But the kitchen didn’t have anything to do with taking our order and giving our drinks order to the bar tender. This was not a great start to our last night on HI. I am sorry it has canceled out our good experiences. It could be such a great place for dinner, but it needs to have the right staff.
What a gem! Fantastic friendly staff , clean grounds , amazing beach and access , phenomenal food , and wonderful stay. I am a hotel “snob” and found this place to have its own sense of Bahamian class. Are the facilities perfect ? No , but they are more than adequate for an island vacation. We debated between the coral sands and valentines and are so glad we chose valentines. We will be back!
My flight crew team has been coming here for nearly a decade. Utilizing the Valentines resort for crew accommodations, this resort is the best facility per price, especially during off peak time.
Absolutely perfect vacation and beautiful place to stay!!
Love this place! Fun. Tyler and the team were fantastic! Even Al the dog was great to meet. Idalma was a joy at Valentines Rooster Tail bar. We will be back!
Super well set up property! Great pool for kids! Great food options! Beautiful water views and sunset bar!
I have been staying at Valentine’s every year for the past 3 years. Excellent Hotel and warm and friendly staff. I highly recommend this hotel when staying on Harbour Island.
Convenient at the harbour side by the marina
The sofa bed wasn’t made so we had to make the bed ourselves. After paying over $600 a night I was disappointed. Also the hotel at first claimed I made a purchase that was charged to our room which was not true. We paid cash for it. In addition it refused to issue a final receipt showing that we had no outstanding balance because we booked the rooms through Expedia. The staff members are nice but the service is slow at the restaurant. Will not stay there again.
