The bar and restautant both closed, not advertised on booking. No turndown service on any day, no wifi, one member of staff. The one member of staff on duty was smoking weed on the front step of the hotel... so great service
We had a room in the courtyard and it was very dated. No t.v remote, the bulb in the lamp was broken and no heating. I reported this and managed to get the heating on but then was no hot water. The room was not aired and smelt very damp. Beds were old and uncomfortable
Out of date milk with no apology or offer to rectify...had to call reception again for milk still not received...no TV channels work neither does remote...door lock is hanging on for dear life...the room dustier than a chimney sweeps overalls...dirty socks down side of bed and dirty towel...shocking place..no excuse had 3 months to get this place clean
Ideal for my overnight stay.
Well run hotel with friendly staff
A little difficult to find even with the satnav, however it was in a very quiet neighbourhood, may be different on home match days being next to the football ground. There was no one on reception to meet me and I had to phone the contact number, as the bell in reception was linked to the receptionist, however the response. The owner booked me and upgraded me to the Tydfil suite. A very spacious, and comfortable room, the rooms décor is a little dated but both the room and bathroom were immaculate. Good breakfast, (well worth £6). Definitely will stay there again when in Merthyr on business.
Being a regular for meals for special occasions for over 40 yrs and have booked the Saturday before Christmas for many years we were dismayed to turn up tonight to be told 2200 hrs stop tap. We accepted this but at 2115 hrs to be told last orders, was totally unacceptable. End of an era from now on we will take our custom elsewhere
Hotel is clean and staff is nice, building is quite old there is no lift in hotel, food is nothing special but it is not bad, good for few nights when travelling for business however I wouldn’t recommend that place for longer stay or family visit.
Friendly staff , close proximity to our destination, Merthyr Town FC .
Nice people but hotel rooms need updating very dated. My room had a lever broken on the window and skylight window in bathroom was very dirty so needsa clean also bathroom light didnt work.
Clean sheets & comfy bed. 5-min walk from lots of pubs & restaurants.
Plenty of hot water.
Lots of rooms and a fair amount of parking, so good for larger groups.
Wifi worked well in the room and around the hotel
'Secure bike parking' was an open downstairs area . Not somewhere I'd leave my precious steed. Luckily one of our group had a downstairs room off the carpark so we put our bike there.
No space in the shower to move without the curtain clinging to you.
Strip-light in the bathroom needed the 'starter' to be twisted to get the fluorescent lamp to work (on advice from the manager!)
No lift and narrow stairs.
Tatty décor.
Carpark was swept of leaves each morning, but they missed all the dog-ends and crisp packets.
All downstairs smelled of cooking oil.
This was obviously once a pretty decent place to stay, but has since gone downhill with neglect (like much of the local area). With a bit more effort, a lick of paint, and better attention to detail this would be a much better place.
The website description of this place (luxurious accommodation; superb restaurant) is pretty laughable.
For a cheap stay near Bike Park Wales (and a nearby 'Spoons' for cheap food & beer) it was OK. Will look for somewhere else if we go back to BPW
First and last visit to Treganna hotel. Chose this as a night stop whilst on a biking trip, 2 of us both using single rooms.
The decor is very very dated and looks quite worn. At first glance it seemed ok for 2 fellas and just somewhere to put our heads for the night. The towels and bed linen were clean but that’s where the cleanliness stopped. The bathroom was very unsatisfactory, it looked like Chewbacca had moulted in there with huge piles of hair/pubic hair along the floor edges. Same in the room itself. The grout in the bathroom tiles was very dirty too. In one of the rooms when the toilet was flushed, the cistern water smelt stagnant & repulsive.
Had a pint at the bar which tasted off, took it back after 2 mouthfuls and told the barman it didn’t taste right, I then bought a bottle and he didn’t even ask what was wrong with the pint or offer a refund. We also ordered a JD & coke, the coke came from an open can that had been open godknows how long!? I wouldn’t dare eat there given the cleanliness issues we noted.
The only good thing was that it was £40 each, room only without breakfast.
Only spending one night here we were pleased with the cleanliness of the place. We didn't have breakfast or any other meal but the restaurant part look great. Our TV didn't work as there was not one channel available!? Parking was available and was suffice ..
Omg what a poo pit. The area is pretty run down with derelict buildings opposite and i should of taken my queue from that.
The hotel although ok on the outside has cctv parking and that is the only good thing to say about this hotel. We booked an annex and instead got a poo tip in the eves, the decor is 30 years old at best and the carpets are threadbare and black Round the edges and look like they haven't been cleaned in a while. The night receptionist is rude and had to ask for the Wi-Fi and breakfast times to which he point like I shouldn't of bothered him. The further up the stair the worse and dirtier the place was our room was ramshackled the furniture was damaged the carpet had dubious stains in the bowl ,and on the floor the toilet needed a good clean with some bleach, the ceilibg has what looks like yellow stains , the wardrobe was a damp smelly cupboard. The bed suoa in thw middle you could feel the metal springs the spare bed sheets were marked in fact the only good thing was the parking.
Wouldn't stay here again In fact I would recommend giving it a wide birth, 0 stars would be more accurate statement
For what we paid, we didn't expect a lot and were not disappointed! Overall ok but a couple of things let it down. The rooms (we were in motel style chalets at the back), were ok, quite big and everything worked....however... the beds were dirty, there were hairs, general dirt (like bits of soil) and even what looked like a toenail on the sheet. My colleague checked his in disbelief at the sight of mine and found similar. We both noticed the floor was really dirty, I dont think it had been hoovered in a long time. On a positive note I will say the shower was excellent!
My main gripe is as follows, I was woken at 0145 by a loud rumbling and metallic scraping noise from the carpark. Having left vehicles there I was concerned that someone was breaking in or similar. I stepped outside to find someone slowly pushing a large industrial bin up a slope, over bumpy ground to the carpark. Another one followed...... shortly after, at nearly 2am.... They were dumped just outside our room... words fail me. How utterly inconsiderate to take money from guests and then make a massive racket in the middle of the night.
Needless to say I didnt sleep much after being woken so suddenly.
I will say the breakfast was ok. A bit odd mind, given one of the windows was precariously hanging off its hinges next to us.
A bit more attention to detail would go a long way. I've given 3 stars based on the fact it was cheap. It really deserves a 2.
Good hotel
Very good room and superb food.
Had a lovely stay, lovely old fashioned hotel, large rooms and comfortable bed. Could do with an update but was still charming. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Close to town. We ate there every night as the meals were very good.
A room was booked for me as part of a motorbike tour. I was allocated room number 5 which is a twin room at the end of the corridor. My first impression was to not good. Small, pokey, dirty feeling made me go to the reception desk to ask to be moved to a different room and was told that the hotel was full. I spoke to my friends in their allocated rooms and I have to say they appeared a whole lot better that what I was in. The lock on the door wasn't exactly reassuring so I put my valuables in my bike box while I was out. Walls are not the best and a snoring neighboring room kept me awake most of the night. Not the friendliest male receptionist however the female was a lot better. The bar was fine if not lacking in a bit of atmosphere, at least the football was on. A taxi to the town was ideal. Breakfast was ok however we were charged after leaving as this wasn't included in the price which we thought it had.maybe if I had a different room I wouldn't be writing this but I'm just making people aware before they book to avoid the room ( probably avoid 3,4 & 6) definitely would not stay here again
Walking trip in the Brecon Beacons. Our stay was all good - only hiccup was noisy people in the unit next door to us - but that is the luck of the draw - not the hotel's fault which was good on all counts
