The County Hotel

This was a short staycation - purchased a dinner/bed/breakfast gift voucher a few months ago. What a wonderful experience in every way - from check in, to our room, followed by a wonderful dinner and then breakfast at a local cafe. Angela and her team are outstanding hosts - made us feel very welcome, appreciated that we had chosen to stay at The County Hotel and did everything possible to make our short stay memorable. And it was. We will be doing it again.

Thanks for great night. Wish we have found you guys sooner. Folks stay at the place when in Napier. Don't waste you time anywhere else. These guys offer A+ service. So worth it.

We have stayed at this Hotel 4 times over the past 2 years, including stays with family and friends. We absolutely love this place with its old fashioned character and spotlessly clean rooms, but it is the exceptional service by Angela and her team which makes our stays an outstanding experience. Cannot wait to enjoy more stays at this lovely place !!

Lovely hotel with a lot of character. Library with free port (very sweet). No breakfast but we had a great breakfast next door at Kitchen & Bar. Quality of bed was average. Nice staff at the reception.

What could be a lovely boutique hotel is badly let down by the dining experience. First night was slow, the second night we walked out after an hour with no sign of any food coming. What made it worse was being told by the duty manager that they had problems in the kitchen and that we were being unreasonable. Her parting comment to us was not an apology but “have a nice life!”. Customer service at its worst. The waitress tried very hard to recover the situation but was badly let down bu the manager.

Great place to stay with lovely staff, super convenient and nice yesteryear charm

We live just 10 minutes drive from the hotel but love our ‘staycation’ here. Beautiful old world charm building. Wonderfully friendly service. Great rooms. We took advantage of one of the package deals which included dinner and breakfast. Both of which were outstanding. I really do love this hidden gem in Napier’s cbd.

From the moment we stepped into the elegant foyer, we were greeted with warmth and kindness.
The hospitality that we received from the county hotel, was absolutely amazing, both Natasha and Angela went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.
The charm of this hotel is exceptional with its elegant décor, and the exquisite dining experience top off our stay and made it thoroughly enjoyable

This Hotel is a gem to stay at. A real Art Deco feel with absolutely wonderful staff. I can honestly say, out of the hundreds of hotels I have stayed in World Wide, the staff here with friendliest and best I have ever experienced. There on a Luxury Escapes package and this was a bargain. Churchills restaurant was a perfect way to finish each night with great meals and impeccable service.
We will return.

We have just had the most amazing stay at the County Hotel Napier. The ambiance was warm and inviting..Angela is a wonderful host, so caring and genuine. The food was superb and so was the service. Our room was beautiful,every detail was top notch . The Heatpump was on and it was so clean and beautifully cozy. Thank you so much for making our rare break away so lovely for us.

The room was nice and clean but the bathroom is fully tiled with no heat so it was freezing. This would be fine in summer but definitely not in winter

I recently attended the Wine Street Restaurant’s Winter Art Deco Brunch. It was a delightful experience. We were warmly greeted by Angela and Natasha who looked after us attentively. The setting was beautiful, and the food was delicious and generous. It was a lovely experience. I often dine at the restaurant and Chef Richie’s food is up with the best in Hawke’s Bay.

Great location in the heart of the city. Superb room with walk-in closet and ensuite. Very friendly and helpful staff

On the 28 June 2025, the County Hotel hosted my husband's surprise special birthday party. It was a great success the Wine Street Restaurant was sparkling with outstanding service and amazing food crafted by their talented chef. Our guests all had high praise and lovely comments on the quality of the whole dining experience.
Nothing was too much trouble for Ange when planning this occasion.
A very memorable evening thanks to the team of the County Hotel.
Highly recommend, if you are looking for a place to celebrate or looking for a great place to dine.
