⭐☆☆☆☆ — Misleading listing, dismissive staff, no accountability
I booked a room at The Dominick specifically because the room type I selected clearly showed a private sauna in the photos. That feature was the entire reason I chose this hotel and paid a premium price (over $6,000 for my stay).
When I arrived, I was told my room did not have a sauna.
At check-in earlier in the day, a staff member even told me the room I booked was “unique” and “one of a kind,” and that I couldn’t check in early because someone was still in it. But when I returned after check-in time, I was given a completely standard suite — no sauna, nothing special, and identical to rooms I’ve stayed in here before for far less money.
When I questioned the discrepancy, the hotel staff were rude and dismissive. They ultimately admitted that the photos shown under my room category actually display a different room — the Spa Suite — which I was not given and which they said was unavailable. In other words, the listing is misleading.
Their “solution” was to offer a one-day pass to the spa. That is not what I paid for. I paid for a private in-room sauna experience. I requested a refund for the difference or the correct room — both were refused.
My American Express travel consultant spent significant time advocating for me and confirmed the hotel acknowledged the photos were misleading. Despite that, hotel management still refused to provide a meaningful resolution or refund.
So to summarize:
The room listing was misleading
The room I paid for was not provided
Staff were dismissive when I raised concerns
Management refused to correct the situation
I paid a premium price for a standard room
This is not what you expect from a luxury hotel, especially at this price point. Extremely disappointing experience and a complete breakdown of trust. I will not be returning.
This hotel is top notch. Very comfortable bed. Quietest New York hotel room that I have ever slept in. I took a bath in the huge and deep soaking tub in the room. The shower had a high volume rain spout with great hot water. Excellent service. Delicious breakfast in the cafe. Great location without the very touristy crowds of mid town. The shops in SoHo are great. West Village is 5 minutes walk to the north with some of the best restaurants and cafes in the city. Hudson River Park is three blocks to the west and was a little too cold to walk this time but this has been a favorite walking route for us on previous visits to the city. This is my second time staying here and definitely my favorite place to stay in the city.
The hotel is centrally located and just beautiful! Jose went over and beyond for us!! And you have to stop to meet Gio in the mezz bar! Best bar tender ever!!!
Clean rooms, great service, friendly staff. Hotel is chic and beautiful. Great views. Can’t beat the location. Room service is always quick and yummy.
Send my regards to Marlene at front desk. Every hotel should have a Marlene! Friendly yet professional.
Hotel's location is perfect. We decided to stay in soho to avoid the touristy noise in the Times Square area. It was an excellent choice. Our room was divine with a nicely laid out bathroom.
Outstanding! Turn down service at night was a plus. Room was fabulous, robes, bathroom, bed and bedding! All FABULOUS.
You have a gem in customer service with Neferteri! She is outstanding in dealing with people and their issues. Witnessed a “not so nice” customer- she handled it with grace.
Thank You- The Dominick!
I booked the Jr Penthouse for President's day weekend last year and the room had outstanding views of the city from sunrise to sunset. Be sure to check out the spa downstairs for a relaxing experience.
Calling this property a 5-star hotel is not just inaccurate—it is deceptive. At best, this is a tired, poorly managed 3-star hotel masquerading as luxury.
The room itself was unacceptable. It was “lightly” cleaned, with furniture that was chipped, scuffed, and clearly past its usable life. This was not “patina” or wear from age—it was neglect. For a hotel charging luxury prices in New York City, the condition of the room alone was enough to make us question how this property maintains its rating.
Billing was another frustration. We were overcharged and had to take time out of our stay to contact the hotel and push for a correction. A hotel at this supposed caliber should have airtight billing practices; instead, the burden was placed on the guest to fix their mistake.
The bar area was frankly embarrassing. It lacked any sense of atmosphere or professionalism, and the bartender was clearly inexperienced. Service was slow, disorganized, and uncomfortable to watch—hardly what one expects from a “luxury” Manhattan hotel.
Room service was a consistent failure. Orders routinely took up to two hours, and on multiple occasions, we had to leave the hotel before the food even arrived. No follow-up, no apology, no accountability. This wasn’t an isolated incident—it was a pattern.
Perhaps most disappointing was the staff overall. Interactions felt transactional and indifferent, with employees performing only the most basic functions of their jobs. There was no warmth, no attentiveness, no anticipation of guest needs—none of the hallmarks of true hospitality. For a hotel that markets itself as high-end, the lack of professionalism and engagement was glaring.
This was, without question, one of the most unfortunate and disappointing hotel stays we have ever had in New York City. If you are expecting refinement, service, or luxury, look elsewhere. This property does not deliver on its promises, and we will absolutely not be returning.
Absolutely stunning room and views! The staff were amazing and so helpful, and the location couldn’t have been more convenient.
The staff were pleasant and extremely helpful. The view from our room was amazing. The room itself was lovely and comfortable.
