Prior to our arrival, I advised the property that our estimated arrival time would be 6:00 pm. We arrived at approximately 6:10 pm to find the reception door locked.
There was a doorbell with a notice stating that staff would respond within two minutes. We rang the bell several times but received no response. The notice also instructed guests arriving after hours to call the listed reception number. We called this number multiple times, but it rang out without being answered. The same number also offered an emergency option, which directed us to an answering service. We left a detailed message including our name, booking details, and advised that we were waiting at the front entrance. After receiving no response, we repeated the process a second time, again with no reply. After waiting for approximately 30 minutes with no assistance, we had no option but to make alternative accommodation arrangements for the night.
The following morning, we returned to the hotel when reception was open. After providing my booking details, the receptionist asked why we had not checked in the previous evening. I explained exactly what had occurred, including the unanswered doorbell, multiple unanswered phone calls, and the two messages left on the emergency answering service.
He then advised that the hotel's telephone system was currently being upgraded and suggested this may have been the cause of the problem. He also claimed that an email had been sent to me at approximately 2:00 pm the previous day advising that our room key had been placed in a key box at the front of the property. He asked me to confirm my email address, despite already having successfully sent my booking confirmation to that same address. No evidence was provided that the email had actually been delivered or that it had not bounced. To ensure there was no issue with my own devices, I tested both my phone and email immediately. Both were working correctly.

I had one of the best suits with river view. The river view was blocked by trees. When I asked for a different room none were available apparently. The lady in reception seemed liked she really didn’t want to be there was short and seemed agitated.
