This is the third trip to Azores and this hotel. Everyone at this property is so attentive to your needs and extremely cordial. The service level is outstanding. The valets, reception, lobby bar, 2nd floor restaurant for breakfast and dinner go out of your way to make you comfortable and never say no to any request. The food was the best in the island in my opinion and that is saying a lot. The room was spacious and quiet. Although we have always had thought of staying somewhere else in the island, due to our experience, there is no reason to go elsewhere.
A estadia foi globalmente agradável, com destaque muito positivo para a qualidade do jantar no restaurante Balcony, bem como para a simpatia e profissionalismo das equipas.
No entanto, a experiência começou com alguns contratempos que poderiam ter sido evitados. No momento da reserva não fui informado de que a piscina e o spa do hotel não estariam em funcionamento, sendo posteriormente indicado que essas instalações poderiam ser utilizadas noutro hotel a cerca de dois minutos a pé. Apesar da solução alternativa, sair do hotel para usufruir desses serviços, sobretudo com o clima típico dos Açores nesta altura do ano, não corresponde plenamente à expectativa criada.
Após manifestar essa insatisfação foi-me indicado que seria realizado um upgrade de quarto, o que inicialmente não se verificou, tendo sido necessário regressar à receção para esclarecer a situação e proceder à troca, o que acabou por gerar algum transtorno adicional.
Importa ainda referir que alguns detalhes de manutenção no quarto, nomeadamente na varanda e no mobiliário exterior e WC, já revelam algum desgaste, algo que não corresponde totalmente ao nível que normalmente se espera de um hotel de cinco estrelas.
Em suma, uma estadia agradável, com equipas muito profissionais e alguns momentos de grande qualidade, mas onde certos detalhes de comunicação, organização e manutenção impediram que a experiência fosse verdadeiramente ao nível de um hotel desta categoria.

24th Feb - 4th Mar, 8 night stay at the Grand, our first visit of 7 previous visits to beautiful Sao Miguel and first in Punta Delgada.
Traditional 5* hotel harbour/marina side in Central location.
140 room hotel with full facilities some temporarily out of use for low season maintenance and improvement. Didn't detract our visit in any way.
Arrival at early evening and greeted by Hugo the duty, friendly doorman. Check in was simple and easy by efficient receptionist Catia. Allocated room 513 with balcony overlooking the harbour and marina on 5th floor.
Beautiful room with lovely ensuite toilet and shower facilities. Nicely fitted out with comfortable bed,
in room storage, TV and WiFi. Hugo obliged and took suitcases to room and explained operation etc.
Low season so only 23% hotel occupancy.
We were B&B but still used the Balcony restaurant and Vapore Bar and alternative dining facility.
We also dined out extensively in the town at both new and old facilities.
The staff at the hotel under direction of General Manager Jorge Xavier were fabulous. Friendly, helpful and professional at all times. Clearly we benefitted with low season prices but service and experience were not compromised in any way.
Will we return?
