Backwater Retreat - Honeymoon House

tres belle maison ancienne, avec chambres donnant sur un très beau balcon sur le canal, très calme. Mais il y a un gros problème de propreté. Les draps et serviettes sont hors d’age et ne sont pas nets, la salle de bain très mal nettoyée. Le jardin très mal entretenu.Le service est cependant correct la famille serviable. Ils nous ont organisé un magnifique tour en petit bateau privé dans les backwaters. La cuisine n’est pas mauvaise mais vu l’et de propreté de la cuisine ont peut avoir des doutes...
Avec un effort de propreté ce serait un merveilleux endroit.
Prix un peu surestimé au vu de l’etat Général de la maison.

Måtte kæmpe for at få et rent lagen at lægge under det genbrugte tæppe.
Personalet boede på hotellet, og virkede nærmest irriteret over besøg af gæster.
Men billigt, og med skøn udsigt til floden!

It was described as a "Honeymoon Cottage" but it was more like a home stay/guest house. The owners were wanting to make our stay as comfortable as possible which was nice, but everything was rather basic. The power dropped out every half hour or so. Nothing in the neighborhood was of interest. And, a bit out of the way. I'd recommend this for travelers needing accommodation for a wedding or a party in the area but not really for tourists.

The owner was very friendly and tried his best to make our stay comfortable. The staff was nice too.

Stay was good. Food was o.k. Prepared as per your need.
Approach road is very bad.

A nice place on the backwaters. A little out of the way, but worth the travel. A great place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle. The staff were very attentive and incredibly helpful. Rooms clean, comfortable and spacious. Definitely worth a visit!

I been there accidentally as I was to kottayam on a business trip. Expedia got me into tis place. Was quiet, away from the traffic & buzz. Have chilled there. The only catch was the kitchen closes by 10@ nitension. Apart from that a very good place for budget honeymoon ( though I was on a business trip). I shall visit this place again.

Had a quiet quality time together

My wife and me spent a few days here during our 3 week tour of Kerala in February 14. We chose it to get the real backwater experience so were not worried about the slightly remote location. Our room was basic but once we had learned how to use the bucket and jug method of washing all was well, the cold water shower wasn't really needed. An excellent place to chill out, we spent hours on the lovely veranda watching the abundant wild life: a king fishers spotters dream. The peace and tranquility really was a step back in time. Food from the simple menu was fresh and well prepared; we loved the dosa for breakfast. What makes this place stand out is the excellent service: the owner really does want his guests to enjoy their stay and offers a level of service not achieved by many an Indian 4 star. Top tip: take up the offer of the 3 hour backwater cruise; we had the boat to ourselves for 2200 rupees and it was a stunning experience. Great stop off for a few days; highly recommended.

Good Service, Mr. Kurien and his son gave good Hospitality.

Excellent clean/nice rooms. Outstanding service provided by them. The owner of the hotel, Kurian is a very nice person. He will definitely make your stay comfortable and hospitable.

Its a nice place for retreat.Just go there,check in n be there.Reading a book or work on ur laptop.

Staff members are excellent in their service. Location is good if you are looking for somewhere secluded but if you wish to go and venture then you will need to pay for pre-arranged driver or taxi. Best not to go during rainy season as with thunderstorms, electricity cuts out frequently every few mins.

It was clean, but very old and no proper bathroom with running hot water, AC not functioning too well and the extra bed was not for an adult - not acceptable. Owner and staff were nice and apologetic, but if you charge for a 3rd adult - you should provide a proper bed. Would never stay there again.

Very nice location just beside the back waters but is also the downside as it is very difficult to find out the place if you are driving down without any assistance. But you can call up Mr.Kurien and he personally came to pick me up from Kottayam main station.
Nice peaceful location for honeymooners as well as for a family. Nice home made food and above all very good service.

I picked this based on many favorable reviews, especially on Tripadvisor. The Standard Room I was in was very basic. A large King sized bed in a small room meant there was little room for anything else. A luggage rack or even a table in the small walk-in closet would have been useful. Decor is tacky and out of place, but I would expect that of most places in these parts. The sheets were thankfully clean. My main complaint was the noise from upstairs -- The upper floor is plywood, supported by I-Sections, so every bit of noise, including footsteps and chairs dragging were amplified many-fold and did not allow me to sleep. The quality of the in-house food is very ordinary, so I have to disagree with several reviewers who praise it. There aren't many options around, so you're stuck, and for the quality, the food is definitely overpriced. As for the bathroom, the toilet seat wasn't clean, the sink in there was cracked all over and gross looking. The mirror was half eaten away from behind. Overall, I rate this a below average experience.

I had stayed here for three days in Sep 2010 with my wife and my sister's family. We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of not only Mr. Kurian but his wife and the staff of the hotel. We really felt at home. Mr. Kurian personally arranged for the Houseboat ride at a very short notice and escorted us to the boarding point. The houseboat ride was the best of our experience.
The food both in the boat and at the hotel were really good and tasty (south Indian).
If you care for value for money and hospitality you will not be disappointed.

very bad experience. hotel is very far away from main city and road was pathetic.once you check in no scope for visit any nearby place. Nothing in the hotel for entertainment. small hotel with 6 rooms. like a hotel in a house. complete waste of money. never never place to visit. i also booked this one after reading reviews at hotels.com and tripadvisor.com but sorry to say complete waste of time and money.

Hotel à recommander si l'on aime le calme.
Le personnel est très agréable et la nourriture bonne.

it was an excellent place to stay with an amazing view from balccony
all roos have the same tewrracew towards the bachwater. food and service were o.k. the rooms were good bathroom could be better.
for that price the best in that aerea, we will come back.
