Great breakfast
Didn’t like the idea of paying for parking
The room was clean and the location was very convenient.
I paid extra for a king sized bed and was given a room with two queens or full's. The people above our room were bouncing and jumping around all hours of the day and night. Someone knocked on our door several times and no one was there. The TV is small and quite underwhelming for the cost of the room. No, I did not travel there just to watch TV, but in the evenings to unwind it would have been nice. The toilet didn't flush well.
Location was great! Rooms were fantastic!
Breakfast was chaotic. Only one person was working the food area. Many items were empty. Things were messy in that area. I blame most of that on the guests there, but the one person on staff was clearly frustrated with the chaos.
The location was good. When we first arrived, the lobby was welcoming and clean.
Our room didn’t have a working fridge or microwave. Half the outlets didn’t work in the room. We needed up getting moved to a new room, after trying to move the fridge to other outlets in the room to see if that would fix the problem. We were glad to be in a room with a working fridge and microwave after moving to a new room, but there was food on the floor near the AC unit and tons of ants on the wall. The breakfast the first day was really good and my kids were so excited. The second day, though, it was a bummer. They were out of milk, juice, water, the pancake machine was down and the kitchen staff wasn’t very friendly, though I’m sure she had been subjected to many complaints and may have just been frustrated at that point. The front desk staff was fantastic though and we felt taken care of.
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel every year since 2018 because we enjoy visiting Charleston and the surrounding areas. When we first stayed here in 2018, the property appeared newly renovated, offered excellent value, and had a great location. Unfortunately, after my recent two-night stay with my mom and brother—who were visiting the area for the first time—I don’t think we’ll be returning. Over the years, the property’s overall quality has noticeably declined and no longer matches the experience we had during our first visit.
Here are my observations from our recent stay:
Pros
1. The staff was consistently kind, professional, and courteous. Everyone we interacted with—from the front desk to the breakfast staff and housekeeping—provided excellent customer service.
2. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.
3. The hotel was mostly quiet, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep.
4. The air conditioning worked very well.
5. The location is excellent. It’s close to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which is a great place for walking or exercising, and the nearby Mount Pleasant Pier is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset.
6. The hotel is about 10 minutes from downtown Charleston and less than 30 minutes from several popular beaches.
Areas for Improvement
7. The bathrooms are showing their age. The shower could use updating, and the bathroom sink drained very slowly.
8. The water temperature was excessively hot. Even with the faucet adjusted, it was difficult to get cool water from either the shower or the sink, which was especially noticeable during the summer.
9. Previous amenities have been eliminated. The complimentary infused water station and cookies that were once available in the lobby are no longer offered. Bottled water is available for purchase at $3.50 for a small bottle.
10. While breakfast is still complimentary, the quality and variety have declined compared to previous years. Items such as orange juice, milk, and a wider selection of yogurts were no longer available. It is still adequate, but no longer a standout feature of the hotel.
11. Parking now costs $5 per night. The parking lot is spacious and convenient, so the fee itself wasn’t a major issue.
12. The electrical outlet serving the mini refrigerator and microwave was not working during our stay. Fortunately, we only had beverages stored in the refrigerator this time, but this could be a significant inconvenience for guests storing food or medications.
Overall, the hotel’s location and staff remain its strongest assets. However, the decline in maintenance, amenities, and overall value compared to previous years makes it difficult for me to recommend it as highly as I once would have. The property would benefit from greater attention to operational management and routine maintenance to restore the level of quality and guest experience that made it such a great place to stay in the past. I hope management invests in these improvements, as this hotel has the potential to once again be an excellent choice for visitors to the Charleston area.
Clean, safe, pleasant environment.
Needs longer breakfast hours.
Cost
The hallways and room had a mildew smell. The walls in the bathroom were visibly dirty, especially around the trash can. The pool was closed for maintenance and wasn’t disclosed until after I paid for the room.
Schoon hotel met prima ontbijt (wel erg druk). Op prima afstand van Charleston om de stad te verkennen
Gehorige kamer, je kunt de drukke weg en mensen op de gang heel goed horen
The rooms size
The stained carpet downstairs leading to my room. I was given a room with wet carpet got bit by bugs. They told me carpet was just cleaned and just needed to Dry??. I had to insist that I be moved instead of them offering. Finally I was moved to a good room with working lights and dry carpet.Just because I booked a room online does not mean I will take anything but that how I felt.P.S love a nice dry and clean room at all times.
Not told pool we closed
The staff was great and friendly. The rooms and hotel were clean. The location was good.
Unfortunately, several issues made our stay disappointing. I had originally booked a different hotel but switched to this one specifically because I confirmed over the phone that the pool was open. When we arrived, the water didn’t look clean enough for our teenagers to feel comfortable swimming, and by the next day the State Department of Environmental Services had shut the pool down entirely. It never reopened during our stay.
There were a few other frustrations as well. There were no regular coffee beans available in the morning, so like several other guests, I had to go out to get coffee. The room was advertised as having a kitchen, which was another reason I chose this hotel, but it turned out to be just a dorm‑size fridge and a very small microwave—far less than expected.
Charleston itself was wonderful, but the hotel experience fell short of what was advertised and what we hoped for.
24/7 coffee maker with coffee beans.
Free breakfast.
The Location, near downtown Charleston.
Cleanliness of the room and facility.
The staff was nice.
My room was on the side of the busy highway. I could hear the traffic at night.
Clean
I booked this hotel because of the pool. I have a kid and booked the hotel because of the pool and the pool was closed when we arrived. Just wished I would have known before showing up.
The location and the front guest staff.
There appeared to be a plumbing issue, carpet throughout hotel was filthy, and pool was closed our entire 4 day stay. We didn’t even eat the complimentary breakfast due to the same foods being served everyday. We were also woken up by housekeeping staff at 8am by them beating on the door very loudly and repeatedly.
Clear, modern
AC and refrigerator was too noisy all night
Couldn’t sleep normaly
