The Penny Farthing Hotel

My first allocated room was unfinished, fresh plaster on the wall, dirt on the floor and dust over everything.
My second room had two broken lights, bedside & one in the bathroom, no bin, no hairdryer, two non matching hot taps, no wardrobe, no iron or ironing board and a velux blind that was stuck open before being fixed by the housekeeper.

We asked for early check in and were told it was £20 to access 2 hours early at 1pm. We decided we may as well wait. When 3pm came however, "the painters" were still in our room - removing masking tape and surrounded by paint tins and cloths, then it would presumably need a clean. So we were unable to leave bags or use facilities prior to our trip into london, despite having waited until check in time - good job we didn't pay for early check in!. We arrived back after midnight, entered the room to an inevitable paint smell despite the window having been left open. The toilet, when flushed, constantly filled unless you pushed the handle vertically up on itself because, like the toilet bowl, it is no doubt full of scale. The shower was downright dangerous in terms of temperature fluctuations. It went from ok to literally scalding, throughout the shower, regardless of where you set the tap - turning it down to cold made no difference. The sink tap only works after several turns - otherwise its a tiny trickle. The kettle was equally scaled up inside - which, like the loo, I feel there is no excuse for, and there was mould in shower corners. As a tea drinker, there was also no normal tea only decaf, but no one to ask for some. All of the issues we encountered were avoidable and there is no excuse for, especially at this price point. We would have passed our comments on to staff, but other than one cleaning lady who was lovely, who we saw before we checked in (or didnt) there are no on site staff. There is no reception "team" as you are led to believe from the emails. Everything is automated, from the code to your room, which you get after your automated check in, and there is also automated check out "to avoid queues at reception" - there is no reception. There is a room where you put your reg into a tablet. Not a good experience, would not recommend nor stay again.

Everything. Good luck speaking to anyone from the hotel, they gave the incorrect room code and no code to actually enter the building. Had to book elsewhere and its been a week with still no response from them... basically robbed me

After a request to move rooms because the first room we were allocated had the dirtiest bathroom we have come across, every tile in the shower had black mould, bit just the tray. The second room, apparently an upgrade, had broken window catches, cracks covered with polyfiller and not finished or painted, and very basic amenities. The old air conditioning unit was flashing red and and green all night, but totally inoperable which is quite a risk. The rooms are really not clean, basic issues like hairs on bedding, tables, dusty, half eaten biscuits under a dusty glass dome. The bathroom had been retiled and obviously updated yet was still thick with limescale, some mould and a broken drain hole.
We had issues getting into the room and needed a fob key from reception.
Overall, a cheap stay in what could be described as a cheap motel, but seriously, in Berkhamstes? It has to be better than this.

Well, you’ve got some rooms that are on a walkway and you guys had put me in one of them when I rang up in the week saying can I have a room overlooking the car park and it was wrong when I got there so I asked this lovely lady, young lady I can’t remember her name and she changed her room for me so I had a lovely night sleep no noise

Door codes that shut us out.

The code didn't work for my bedroom so I needed to track down a staff member for a key.
The room itself was a little worse for wear, biscuits had been eaten that were left for guest consumption. There were also remnants of black mould on the grout of the shower. There was no hairdryer in the room either.
Finally the television was particularly old and often cut out.
Breakfast was also far more than a five minute walk away, which was extra difficult in the rain!

The 1st room the shower was scalding even when the staff tried it. The second room had blotches of polyfiller and broken window latches and the window regulators were unlocked. Rhe entry system was poor.
Not one of the wedding guests were without issue and some if rhe bathrooms were very poor I hygiene and mould.

Room was tired and needs some updating.

Since last visit they have now done away with reception, making the getting to the rooms a faff. Cleaners tried to help but they have limited options too. It's no longer a small friendly hotel, it's just a book online bedsit now. I wont be returning next year.

Accessibility issues re the keycode. Shower was either scalding or cold and no pressure. Toilet seat unstable.
Terrible pillows, poor Duvet lumpy bed.

Toilet was disgusting, shower did not work properly, and bed was not very comfy some of the plugs did not for charging phones etc , tv the signal was terrible, fan useless ,
