Categories

Cleanliness
9
Multiple reviews call the hotel 'clean' and praise tidy rooms and bathrooms, indicating consistently good cleanliness.
Service
9.8
Staff repeatedly described as very helpful, friendly and attentive (reception upgrades noted); a couple of comments mention distant dinner service but overall service is excellent.
Location
10
Several guests highlight an excellent, historic and convenient location; proximity and views are frequently praised.
Room Quality
8
Rooms often described as comfortable with good décor and beds, but issues noted (attic rooms overheating, sealed windows, very small sink and lack of hooks) reduce the score.
Amenities
6.5
Significant negatives: no lifts in a multi-floor listed building, no AC in some rooms, and limited/awaiting parking permits — amenities are a weakness for some guests.
Value for Money
9.4
Guests explicitly call it 'excellent value for money' and praise comfortable rooms and included breakfast relative to price.

8.2
Breakfast is widely praised as excellent; however there are isolated issues (one poorly cooked meal, hard toast) and dinner/bar service/atmosphere received criticism.
Overall Experience

Good choice for visiting Dartmouth to enjoy its historic provenance and central location.
Pros:

General decor and ambience. well run. reasonable food and breakfast.
Received a comprehensive reply about car parking advice in the town.

Cons:

No place to hang towels or clothes in the shower room.
The image for the room on Booking.com included a view of houses from the window. There was no distant view at all from the window. I was disappointed about that!
The hotel was not expecting us when we arrived. It took a little while before they located us on their system.

I would stay here again.
Pros:

The staff greeted me nicely and were polite and helpful. I checked out at breakfast and although the staff were busy they were still kind and helpful.

The room was well presented and tidy with a decent coffee machine and radio. The shower has good power and was well appreciated after a day's hike.

Cons:

The Jackdaw outside couldn't shut up, but that's not the fault of the hotel or staff and was decent company otherwise.

Church bell ringing every hour disrupted my sleep.

The duvet and pillows were far too warm and heavy, and that is my only real complaint about the hotel. If they were lighter and cooler I would have nothing to complain about. Some might like that kind of duvet though.

Totally wonderful and relaxing
Pros:

The hotel and location was exceptional. The only downfall was the room didn't have windows that you could open. Stayed for 3 nights and on the last night we changed rooms for one where you could open the windows as we did rather warm in the night.
Sadly didn't get the young ladies name at breakfast. But for the first 2 mornings we had such a lovely and warming happy person serving us. A credit to the place. Not saying the 3rd breakfast waitress wasn't as equally pleasant because she was. The whole staff made the stay so enjoyable all round...

Cons:

Just one thing, maybe silly. But the milk wasn't or offered to be replenished. Had to go to m&s to get some milk as nobody was in reception.

Gorgeous interiors, lovely and helpful staff who made my stay very enjoyable.
Pros:

Stylish and throughout interiors!

Cons:

Noticed a couple of things on the floor (receipt by the bin and a plastic cap in the bathroom) which indicated the floor wasn’t cleaned prior to check in.
