Hotel Walhalla

Our stay was extremely disappointing and unfortunately one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had.

The room had no air conditioning. We reported the issue on the first night and were assured it would be fixed. The second night nothing had changed. On the third night we were moved to another room one floor above, but that room also had no working AC. The staff apologized but told us there was nothing they could do.

The only way to cool the room was to open the window, which turned out to be directly above the bus and train station. The noise was unbearable. People were yelling and laughing outside until around 4:00 AM, and then at 5:30 AM the supply trucks arrived, making even more noise. We barely slept during our stay.

Overall, the lack of air conditioning and the constant noise made the stay very uncomfortable. This issue should have been addressed properly, and guests should not be placed in rooms with these conditions.

Hotel Location (Near St. Gallen Station) and Environment is very nice. Staff is cooperative and hygiene is well maintained. Room was clean and neat. Just to mention to make available drinking water in the room.

We were upgraded on arrival. The room was spacious and comfortable, with excellent noise-blocking windows — you can barely hear the street despite the central location. Well maintained and practical for a short stay. Thank you to the staff for the hospitality!

The hotel has a very convenient location near the train station and the bus terminal, which is definitely a plus.

Unfortunately, there were several drawbacks. The quality of housekeeping was disappointing. After the first cleaning, the room actually looked worse than before. The shower mat was crumpled, and there was a noticeable amount of used, dirty paper left in the toilet, as if something had been wiped and not flushed properly. Overall, there was no feeling of cleanliness.

Another downside was the lack of basic toiletries such as a shower cap or cotton pads. Without a shower cap, it was practically impossible to use the shower properly. The bathroom has only a rainfall (tropical) shower, so it is not possible to rinse quickly without getting your hair wet. When switching to the handheld shower, hot water was dripping from above at the same time, which made showering very uncomfortable. There were also no bathrobes or slippers, and the floor was very cold. In general, the room felt cold even though the heating was set to the maximum, and stepping out of the shower was quite uncomfortable.

The breakfast was rather limited, although it was tasty and sufficient to avoid feeling hungry.

The staff did not feel particularly welcoming.

Overall, I don’t think I would choose to stay at this hotel again.

Comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Good conditioner in the shower! Breakfast was amazing with lots of choices. I recommend the steamed milk with cocoa mix!

Very nice hotel located close to transportation. We had parking located across the street in a parking garage that was spotless and easy in/out. Or room was fantastic, a spacious corner room with a great view. The bar was nice to have a few drinks and relax a bit. The breakfast looked like it would be nice, but the breakfast bar was crammed packed with limited space, so we just skipped it and stopped at a place to eat on our day trip. Overall a great experience.

Love the hotel for its central localization, big rooms with comfortable beds, large bathrooms with walk-in-showers, good breakfast and friendly staff, especially at the lobby. However, at the third day on my stay, linen at my room were changed but by accident dirty them and they didn’t get replace for the next two days.

I found this hotel on the American Express concierge website. Best Hotel in St. Gallen! First time staying in St. Gallen, and this hotel was fantastic Great location close to the old town area and the train. Shout out to Florian at the front desk for his amazing service, experience of the area and great recommendations. He greeted us with a warm welcome when we arrived. He offered umbrellas for our stay (It was snowing and raining the first few days), a universal charger when I asked where I could buy one. If we needed a reservation locally (we don't speak German), he provided it. The hotel was spacious, quiet and clean. I liked the hardwoods and roomy bathrooms. The woman running the breakfast buffet was also amazing. She always kept the area clean and asked people if they wanted anything else when closing time came along. Never rushing us. The buffet was a great variety of foods and the most incredible breads! Ask for washcloths if you need them. I always use one, so I asked and they provide you as many as you like. Hand and bath towels are always available through housekeeping. We will be back in May and plan on staying here again!

Nice & spacious room. Comfortable beds. Good soap, shampoo & bodylotion products. Noisy air conditioning fan that went on in the middle of the night even though we turned it off. Breakfast room not very appealing, medium quality of breakfast (awful orange juice, watery scrambled eggs).

The staff is very helpful when we arrive before check-in time. We can store our luggages.
Very close to main train station, just accros the street.
Comfortable and clean rooms. Varied breakfast menu.
If I stop by St. Gallen, I would stay there again.

Beautiful room with excellent levels of cleanliness and very comfortable bed!

My intent with booking with this hotel was to book directly with the hotel as I’ve been led to believe that you get better service when you skip the third party sites.

The hotel only provided 1 available rate listed as non-refundable but during booking there is a cancellation button that indicates cancellation is up to the individual local hotel.

All that being said - during my trip I contracted Covid and was under a drs care - I cancelled my reservation subject to the local hotels policy (whatever that is) well ahead of my reservation. I emailed the hotel to follow up on the cancellation and was told b/c of their automated system they could not honor the cancellation and eliminate the charges. I disputed with my credit card company and the hotel continued to hold the charges.

Just be careful when booking this hotel as their business practices are very suspect and represent their country very poorly.

Large clean room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.

The room was pleasant clean and comfortable. Morning breakfast was more than adequate. The only negative was the parking area. The staff was great, as was the surrounding area

Lovely facility in the heart of downtown. The Abbey/Cathedral wa certainly a highlight.

Perfect place while visiting St Gallen. Nice,clean and very comfortable room. Great breakfast. We got a room upgrade - that made our trip unforgettable.Ms Marta from reception service is an amazing person. Thank to her our stay was even better ❤️

Excellent experience

The good
Location: Very conenient: A stone's throw away from the station. No worry on missing the train. Easy access to everywhere. We walked to Abbey Library, old town, Red Square and etc.
Check-in: Arrived "too" early for check-in, left bags at check-in and then tour city. came back only in the evening. Warm welcoming staff with clear instruction.
Room: spacious, really spacious, modern, clean and tidy, over looking the station and the station clock. Coffee machine available. Walk-in shower, which is good. Good entertainment to work out the time looking at the large-scale binary clock and see if it matches with the "normal" train clock at night. Not noisy (didn't open windows) and good night sleep.
Breakfast: spacious dinning area. Can be a little bit crowded during peak hours. Sufficient food spread. Reasonable quality.
The room for improvement:
Room cleaning: somehow, the room gets clean on alternate days even when the "please clean room" was placed daily.
Room temperature: somehow, the room can be a little bit too warm (yes, it's summer) and the air-con don't seem to be working at the optimum as it was supposed to. May be good to have a fan / cooler in the room.
The conclusion
Value for $. Match with 4* quality and price.

Very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Convenient to old town, the abby, and across the street from the train station.
