We stayed for a few days while attending a music festival in Bondeno. Ideally we would have preferred to be in the town but there didn’t seem to anywhere suitable.
As it worked out staying at La Tortiola was very successful as it also facilitated a couple of trips to the lovely Ferrara which is only about 15 mins. away.
We took a large room at €90 with was good value - a nice sized bathroom with walk-in shower, and everything spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was more than adequate but there was no bar nor
restaurant facility during our stay and this was a shame.
The pool is a good size and clean. There is also ample parking.
The proprietor’s daughter, Antonietta, runs the show and speaks English well enough for non-Italian speaking guests to successfully communicate.
In summary, very happy to recommend La Tortiola as somewhere to stay in the Bondeno area.
Everyone of us know that there isn't a place better than Home. In this hotel i find a great location, good service and the owner and her family are really nice persons.
For sure i will be there again.
This hotel is really situated in the middle of nowhere at 10 km of Ferrara. It is relatively new and situated in an old building (I believe it used to be a kind of farm or stables). The renovation was done with the best materials. The rooms are superb, with large windows. Only the view is nothing special (middle of nowhere, remember).
Since this is a small hotel, the standard services are not always flawless (our hotel key’s needed to be re-activated the second day and it took some time to get the airco up and running). But next to that, this 3-star hotel offers a 5-star service. The owner and her staff did the maximum to provide a personal service.
The swimming pool area can be a little crowded since the hotel allows local people to use the pool.
Comfortable room, spacious, beautiful bathroom, road was a bit noisy in the evening
Colazione abbondante e personale gentile e disponibile
I spent a fantastic weekend in this small and elegant country resort in a city pretty and elegant, Ferrara (famous capital of the Italian Renaissance). The staff is exquisite and the director is "present" nice and friendly. The pool is gorgeuos small but well maintained, elegant garden and very nice decor of the rooms. Service is also excellent in the restaurant, with dishes simple but excellent, fantastic "local cuisine" and all Organic products (KM Zero). I recommend for w-e to relax and visit, Modena, Ferrara and Mantua, given the central and barycentrical great location (50km-30 min each!).
I stay 3 days in this hotel and I was surprised to find a very nice location with a very good restaurant. Is quiet, clean and very polite. I recomand and I congratulate the owner for the good taste. I feel very good and I relax after the daily work. Don't miss this hotel. You will not regret.
Went with a colleague for 2 nights stayed on one extra night as a holiday. Lovely rural setting (I imagine you need a car). Beautiful breakfast. The pool is the highlight I would travel back again just to chill out by the pool for the day. Reasonable price approx. 80 euro per room. No downsides. Fleeced the bathroom for hygiene kits, sewing kits they had it all.
Superbly clean and modern - not an easy find in Italy and I say that from experience!
Hotel was adequate, room was spacious (even by American standards). Pool was overrun with teenagers (who were not hotel guests) when we arrived. It seems the pool area serves as a community gathering area. Not necessarily bad, but perhaps a little off-putting if one is not expecting that. Hotel seems to double as a location for weddings and parties, judging from some of the outdoor furniture and a retrofitted dance floor near the pool. Pool itself is fiberglass and in need of some attention. As noted in other reviews, the hotel is very much off the beaten path and a car is an absolute necessity. Wi-Fi did not work during our stay, but apparently this was a temporary problem. AC worked fine.
We stayed at the La Tortiola for one night. It was really convenient and although we had not expected breakfast was included in the price. The staff was really friendly. Unfortunately we did not manage to go to the restaurant as we already ate in Ferrara city.
The only let down was the lack of air conditioning. I mean there was one, but not working.
The room was clean, well-equipped and spacious. The area seems very nicley kept.
I staid at hotel La Tortiola for two and a half month in the fall of 2011, and it was an excellent experience. The hotel is very nicely situated in the countryside surrounded by fields and apple trees. It is in the countryside and you will enjoy the peace and quiet, but Ferrara and the highway to Bologna is not far away so you wont feel to isolated.
The hotel is very nice and cozy and the rooms are bright and tasteful decorated with a nice and comfortable bed and plenty of hot water. The room was kept in impeccable cleaning condition throughout my stay.
The restaurant is very nice and the selection quiet good, actually if there is something you rally crave for, there is a good chance that they will make it just for you. If you are into win the hotel has a very good collection at reasonable prices, just ask as the owner knows a lot a bout wine.
Besides the pool there is no fitnesscenter, but there are excellent running routs all around the hotel.
What makes this hotel really good is the excellent service. Nothing is to difficult and they will go a long way making sure that the guest is happy and comfortable.
I think the price taken into consideration this hotel is a steal!
Book now:-)
Stayed at Tortiola for 2 weeks during April 2011. Rooms have different sizes, but are all between fair and very well equiped. Rooms are almost brand new (refurbished building) and all have access to WiFi (I however had a couple of connection problems) and are kept very clean!!. Surrounding areas are nice, pool is clean, people are friendly and service was great.
The hotel is located a 15 min drive from Ferrara, but access to local city is a mere 3 minut drive away with access to other restaurants, supermarket, laundry etc.
Hotel Restaurant (Monna Lisa) serve excellent food both for lunch and dinner. There is a more and less set menu card, BUT also a daily altered menu card with the selection between 3 first courses (primi piati) and 3 main courses (secondi piati). Possiblity of several desserts..
Spacious rooms of high quality looking almost brand new. Airy, light and welcoming. Swimming pool area very relaxing. Restaurant Mona Lisa serves local food and wines and is a delightful experience.
This Hotel is a long way out of town, (10/15km ?) so be aware that a car is a must. No transport as far as I know and the taxi's to Ferrara were in short supply during our stay!
A longer stay would have been nice.
