If you want the view of a lifetime stay here! We spent 3 night at the Hotel Elelweiss and loved every minute. The view, with our balcony hanging over of cliff, was incredible. I was so happy with my choice of accomodation. The gentleman at the restaurant each morning was so pleasant and helpful, I really appreciated seeing him each morning. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant as well, which was delicious too!. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Gimelwald Switzerland. Just make sure you book a room with a view!!
OMG! Stay here. Lovely views in a modern hotel. Our room in the new section was spacious - had a couch, desk and chair and a very large bathroom. A small balcony too with awesome views of the peaks. Robe and slippers. A downstairs area with a small sink, refrigerator, microwave, washer/dryer, boot dryer and ski racks. The hotel had a pleasant restaurant that served indoors and out. We ate every meal there. Good breakfast with some options like oatmeal and eggs. Fantastic bread. Wish we had stayed longer. So much to do - hiking, walking and enjoying the natural beauty of Switzerland.
My husband wanted to cross a trip to Schilthorn off his "James Bond Bucket List" so we chose Murren and the Hotel Edelweiss as our stop over. We made the right choice! The room was so warm and cozy and the view from our balcony was absolutely stunning! The hotel has a restaurant and bar and our dinner was delish! My husband ordered steak which came on a sizzling metal tray and the waiter was kind enough to show him how to finish it to his liking. I wish we would have stayed longer!
Everything was wonderful. The room was spacious, the view was incredible, staff were all very friendly and it had the best breakfast that we experienced in Switzerland and it wasn't an added fee.
The view from the balcony was beyond belief. Be sure to request a balcony room. All rooms have a view, but not all have a balcony.
Amazing location and view! Good clean room and great breakfast. Basic bathroom with tiny shower. Note, no air conditioning.
The views from our room were spectacular. I mean, really amazing. It felt like we could just reach out and touch the other side of the valley. Breakfast was delicious. My favorites were their muesli, fresh fruit mix, and egg station where I could boil the egg to my liking. The hotel was convenient to both of the cable cars on each side of Mürren.
Breakfast was included, the staff were great and the view from the room and restaurant was spectacular
Lost electricity twice during a short stay. This hotel did not staff a front desk, and I had to go into the back of the restaurant to find help. Service was poor. They laughed at me and accused me first of lying, and then wrongdoing. I only had a laptop and a shaver plugged in and explicitly showed the staff member around the room to make sure everything was fine.
The second time we lost power, it was night and freezing cold. Again the front desk was not staffed. Again I was blamed for doing something wrong even though I had demonstrated I was not. Nobody ever apologized.
It was well known among other guests that you couldn't find anyone at the front desk. At breakfast people wondered aloud if they could even check out. Even at check in the lobby was empty and we had to wait for a while.
The room had other issues:
1. Bathroom: No privacy. The sliding glass door has a gap big enough to see and hear everything through. The shower has no door, water just splattered out onto the bathroom floor.
2. Bed: Squeaked and creaked, thick plastic covering on the mattress. Sagged from broken springs in the middle. Housekeeping re-made stained sheets, across multiple days, without changing them (we went hiking and there were some dirt stains).
3. Hotel Restaurant: We wanted a romantic evening but felt so genuinely embarrassed after ordering the fondue because it was so obviously a tourist trap--cheap bread, and insufficient cheese. On top of that it was expensive, even compared other Zurich establishments. We were hungry after one entree and left rather than risk a second one.
4. Other: The building door's lock was broken. A “Goldencard” for amenities in the area should have been provided, but was never mentioned. There was no in-room fridge, only a communal one.
Recently went on a grand tour of Switzerland staying at 10 different hotels, with the Edelweiss being the most expensive property we stayed in and ironically the one with the worse service and restaurant. The view from our corner premium room on level -2 was stunning. The room was spotless, spacious, and modern. However, we never felt like we were guests at the hotel because of the staff. Even the one hostel we stayed at was more hospitable. We made a reservation to eat indoors at their restaurant one evening - it turned out to be a warm day so we changed our minds and waited for a table at their outdoor space instead. Their manager made us feel like we were inconveniencing them although there were several open tables. The waitstaff treated us like we came off the street, not a guest at one of their best rooms. Service turned out to be sluggish and we had the worst quality food of the trip. You are better off eating at a Coop than this place. Another instance we asked the front desk for directions to a funicular. Instead of simply answering the question, we were asked what room number we were in first. Very oddly unfriendly behavior which diminished an otherwise nice room.
Great location, clean and spacious room. Average included breakfast, but the restaurant was very good, as was the service.
One disappointment was the self-service laundry, which consisted of a single, small washer and dryer which we had to pay 5 swiss francs each to use ($12.50 USD). We had to wait to use them and the clothes came out of the dryer still damp.
We stayed for three days and this hotel was ideal for our purposes. The location is only a few minutes from the train station and a leisurely ten minute walk to the Schilthorn cable cars. The views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau were exceptional…you’ll never have a better view at breakfast. Furnishings and food were on the simpler side — we very much enjoyed our time.
Staff was excellent. Breakfast was excellent. The view from the premier suite was superb
I really liked the room here. The view was stunning, it was quiet, and convenient to trains & gondolas. They have a washer and dryer that you can use during your stay, too. The breakfast was pretty good and included mimosas and fairly decent coffee.
Great location, comfortable room, good restaurant. Wonderful view of mountains. However, one staff member (reception, woman, short dark hair) was rude and insulting every time we interacted with her. And unfortunately, that's the impression we'll take home with us. We won't recommend this hotel to anyone, because other Murren hotels offer good food and beautiful views of the mountains.
My husband and my favorite hotel during our one-month European vacation!!! The view from our balcony was breath taking!!! The staff was amazing; the room was comfortable and clean! The restaurant had an incredible view as it is overhanging the mountain! Enjoyed breakfast and a few dinners there. Murren is car free, so the hotel location was convenient to everything. Highly recommend staying here while in Murren!!!!
Very clean hotel with friendly staff. Check in and checkout were a breeze. The room was cleaned and towels replaced daily. The view from my room (as well as dining area) was stunning! The staff were very friendly and welcoming too. They also have a washer and dryer to use - dryer was a bit confusing but it all worked out! I really hope I’m lucky enough to stay here again one day!
Owner was discourteous and downright rude when we requested to have our bags stored is a secure place. They had mixed up our reservation and made us change rooms midway through our stay. Also the food was poor quality for the price. The restaurant next door, the Alpina had much better food for lower prices. The view was outstanding but would try another hotel next time.
Nice experience here.
One of the best.
