The Hotel on Pownal

Nice comfortable convenient hotel with helpful friendly staff. Enjoyed the evening reception and complimentary breakfast.

Great location good value, good breakfast

Great location in downtown Charlottetown with parking! Walk to restaurants and the harbour within 7 minutes, easy access to the rest of the island from an amazing home base. Great breakfast, friendly staff and clean, modern rooms. Loved our suite, two bedrooms, two doors on the patio/driveway level made it simple to load our gear in and out. Windows that open are a great feature!!

The Hotel on Pownal is in an ideal location for walking to any location in the historic and Wharf areas. It is also near many walking and biking trails. Unfortunately, although they advertise bike rentals, upon our arrival for a five (5) day stay there were none available. We did observe two (2) boxed bicycles on the Thursday we arrived and saw them sit there until our departure. Apparently their staff was unable to find any personnel to assemble them.
Housekeeping is only offered upon request, that means in the five (5) days we were there, no one changed the linens, towels or cleaned the room without asking for it, not a pleasant feeling. We did have to have the room vacuumed on our second day as we had ants crawling around on our floor, one of them biting my wife in our bed.
The staff is very polite and responsive to requests, but there didn't seem to be a formal routine for operations regarding guests comfort.
They do offer a one (1) beverage (beer or wine) happy hour from 5 to 6 PM, a nice touch. A complimentary full breakfast is also available every day and includes a wide variety of choices which are always kept fully stocked.
We had a late afternoon departure flight on a the Tuesday of our departure and I requested a late checkout at the front desk. I met with a stern, we can extend it to 12 PM from 11 AM. but no later. Rather than continue, I asked them to forward my request to the manager who within an hour allowed a 1 PM checkout the folowing day, very nice. Again it seems all good things there came with a little caveat. By that I mean on our departure day we went for a lovely walk and returned to our room around 11 AM, hoping for an hour or so of rest prior to checking out. Unfortunately, the Front Desk called our room 45 minutes later and asked us what time our checkout was. Really???? so much for a quick nap. I asked the staff member why she called to find out our late checkout time and she said she wasn't sure and forgot to "check our notes" for that information. Again, little things that leave a bad taste.
Overall, I would recommend the Hotel on Pownal for its location, and amenities once they all are available. Charlottetown is a fun city and the Hotel on Pownal gives you great access to the heart of it.

Room size, beds and furniture were good size. Parking was good, close to restaurants etc so didn't need to drive anywhere downtown it was all easy walking.

While the personnel and service were wonderful our room was not, there was a slight odour to the room upon entry and the bed was very worn down . . . quite a downhill slope to it!

It was easy to find. There was plenty of room to park. Had a great breakfast included.

Great location within walking distance to everything downtown Charlottetown. Great free breakfast and very friendly staff. Rooms are clean just outdated. The walls may be thin it is easy to hear the hallways, etc. But worth the stay nonetheless.
