I had a truly wonderful dining experience at Akara Restaurant at Lopesan Baobab Resort. The entire atmosphere perfectly reflects the hotel’s concept, with beautiful African-inspired design elements, warm wood details, and soft, ambient lighting that creates a very special and inviting setting.
The food was exceptional. I started with the prawns, followed by the special fish with African accents—both dishes were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. To finish, I had the apple pie, which was the perfect sweet ending to an already fantastic meal.
What made the evening truly outstanding was the service. Emmanuel took care of me and elevated the entire experience. He intuitively understood my taste, guided me to the perfect selections, and delivered service with such great energy, professionalism, and genuine warmth.
Thank you, Emmanuel, for this exceptional experience at Akara. I will definitely be coming back!
Our second time at this hotel, however, we we're pleasantly surprised by the improved food offering, evening entertainment, and most importantly the kids club (Animation team). A special thank you to Iker and Rachel - they did such a fantastic job engaging with the children, encouraging them and making sure they had a great time!

We visited Akara last year twice and again this year. It’s our favourite restaurant in Gran Canaria. Juan Pablo and his team are the best hosts and looked after us. Food is scrumptious and consistently good. Highly recommended to visit and let the restaurant speak for itself.
Not really sure how to rate the hotel as I think it is far more suited for a family than a couple.
Positive:
the building and the grounds are fabulous with plenty of attention to detail to make it have the feel of a safari lodge.
There is a lovely scent throughout the hotel
Good variety of food for breakfast
Beds are comfortable and a good temperature in the room- slept well
Great seating areas indoors for drinks
Negative:
5 star hotel where there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room is bizarre (this is a basic service in most 3 star hotels and shouldn’t just be in superior rooms only!)
Rooms/ stairwells/ bathrooms are too dark
Lack of comfortable outdoor areas to sit and have a drink
Complimentary arrival water was not replenished without a fee
Long queue for breakfast/ quite chaotic and it felt like cattle were being herded.
Waitress seemed annoyed when I asked to move tables to sit in the sun as it was cold.
Huge hotel with several pools but chairs were all taken with towels.
Also disliked the ‘unique’ idea whereby ‘unique’ guests get a better service. Surely all guests staying in the hotel should be equally important? A great looking hotel that somewhat lacked the hospitality element of a 5 star hotel.

In general the experience was amazing. I felt so comfortable and i felt an awesome good vibes there. I had so much fun and so welcomed with one of your workers, called Addys she is perfect on everything a very good person and very aware of everything. I will definitely come back
We had a great time at Akara. Great food and the service was fantastic
We had a fantastic meal, flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Our waiter, Emmanuel, was very attentive, informative and friendly making the overall experience one to remember.
We arrived on 19 March, 10 golfers for. 4 night stay at this resort.
We arrived at the hotel about 8pm and rushed out to the buffet restaurant as we were told it closed at 9pm. Our return to our room at circa 11.30 my room mate and I discovered that items with a value of circa £1500 had been stolen from our room (0162), which was on the ground floor. We had not left the grounds of the hotel.
The hotel staff were relatively helpful, and advised the door log showed no one had come I through the main door, so presumably the thief/thieves entered through the patio, which opens up to a large area in front of a number of rooms covered covered in astroturf.
However, nobody expressed surprise at this mishap, leading me to believe it was a fairly regular occurrence. They ordered us a taxi the next day to take us to a police station (at our own expense) to report the crime, unfortunately this took us to the wrong station so we had to get another taxi to the correct place.
Police at both stations were very helpful.
Understandably we were reluctant to stay in our original room so we were moved to a higher floor and received a room upgrade. Unfortunately this meant one of us sleeping on a sofa bed.
We didn’t really hear anything of significance from the hotel after we reported the theft to police, and no information about CCTV footage was given to us.
In relation to the rest of the hotel:
1) Staff very friendly
2) No sign of any security guards
3) Buffet was very expensive, food tended to look better than it actually was.
4) surrounding area unappealing
5) we didn’t really make use of the hotel facilities due to inclement weather
As I was part of a group trip I didn’t pick this hotel, and will not return and would not recommend.
The main reason for returning to the Baobab was the beautiful African Themed grounds and we remembered the food being very good when there 7 years ago. The grounds are absolutely stunning but we weren't so blown away by the dinner buffet, although breakfast was great. Don't get me wrong, the food is basically fine, the meat, for instance, is always good quality, but the buffet could be improved with the introduction of themed nights, giving that something different now and again, rather than the standard buffet and the deserts could definitely be improved! We had a standard room (3187) in block 9 which overlooked the boulevard below and the front of the Lopesan Costa Melonares Hotel and you could see a little of the sea either side of that hotel. We had full sun on the balcony all day from about 11am. We did look at a room upgrade when we arrived, having initially being given a ground floor room, but the outlook wasn't nearly as nice and wouldn't have got the sun on the balcony as we did. Unless you particularly like to be straight out onto the sea front, the location is fine, just a 5 or 10 minute walk to the wide well kept promenade with its selection of bars and restaurants - one of the reasons we love this resort. The cleanliness of the hotel was good and the staff were great. All in all we had a lovely relaxing holiday.

La restauración
This was our second visit to the resort and we love it. The location is convenient for local shopping and a visit to the sister resort across the road. Loads of quiet places to relax, read, sunbathe at the Baobab. Food is very good at the buffet and we ate one evening at the Ankara restaurant at the resort and it was superb. There is also live entertainment every evening in the form of music, magic, dance etc.
It’s a family resort so it will be busy during school holidays and lots of tiny toys outside of school holidays.
The only room for improvement is I wish the rooms had brighter lighting as it’s hard to see to put make up on!
The staff were very friendly and helpful with the guests.
Lopesan Baobab is a spacious well designed resort. Pretty gardens surround the various pools with ample
beds. The variety and quality of the food at the buffet restaurants is really good. The entertainment was fun. The staff are all very friendly.
We stayed at Lopesan Baobab Resort with high expectations given its 5-star positioning, and while there are elements that live up to that standard, there are also some significant shortcomings.
The resort itself is undeniably impressive. The pools and gardens are beautifully designed and well maintained, creating a visually stunning environment. In terms of setting and overall feel, it certainly delivers.
However, the food experience was a real disappointment and ultimately the main reason for this lower review. For a hotel of this level, the offering felt poorly executed:
* Limited variety and not enough food stations
* Quality was average at best
* Nothing felt special or memorable
* Service was functional rather than attentive or polished
It simply didn’t reflect what you would expect from a 5-star resort.
Another important point for future guests: if you’re looking for a quiet or adults-only style break, this is not the hotel for you. There are children everywhere, and the atmosphere can feel busy and noisy throughout the day. Introducing adults-only pool or dining areas would significantly improve the experience for guests seeking relaxation.
On a more positive note, the option to visit nearby sister hotels for dining was a saving grace. The difference in food quality, service, and overall experience was noticeable — and highlighted what Baobab is currently lacking.
There were also a few maintenance issues that shouldn’t be present at this level:
* Tears in the room wallpaper
* Lifts that creak and make concerning noises
Overall, while the resort looks the part, it falls short where it really matters. Unfortunately, Baobab just isn’t for us.
