We very much enjoyed our week at the resort. It delivered the relaxing easy holiday that we were, on this occasion, looking for.
The inside and outside spaces are very attractive with an African theme that is not overdone.
The pools are all nice. This March, they were warm enough for actual swimming (which I did a lot) but only the very hardy would be lazing around in them. Most lounged in the pleasant poolside areas. Other reviews have mentioned people reserving sunbeds unreasonably but we experienced very little of that.
The food on half board was plentiful and generally good. Evening mains felt rather more cafeteria than 5 star hotel but were fine. Desserts were beautiful visually but often didn’t have a taste to match.
A surprising plus point was the evening entertainment in the downstairs bar. We went to 5 of these, of which the covers band and the circus were great, the magic was good and the dancing was impressive if not my thing.
On to the niggles. Number one, mentioned by many reviews, is it is so darned dark. The rooms, bars and restaurants are all so dimly lit that one can barely see and certainly not read. Well the bedroom did have tiny spot lamps but apart from that.
Number two is that not only is there no tea/coffee facilities in bedrooms but the coffee at breakfast is from a not brilliant machine. If you want a coffee at any other time, it’s from the bar at high price. Or go outside, which leads me to…
Our main mistake was not to leave the hotel until day four. The town and promenade are rather new but very clean pleasant and safe-feeling. One can eat or drink by the sea for less money than in the hotel. So do go outside for your lunches and pre dinner drinks.
Overall very good, despite the mentioned niggles.
Wow factor when you first check in. The receptionist was very friendly and informative.
The bed was comfortable.
The pool area wasn’t what I expected from a 5* hotel and lots of beds were saved with towels from early hours.
Breakfast wasn’t 5* and service poor, staff unfriendly.
Just come back from this hotel. 12 ladies playing golf. Plus side staff excellent, showers amazing! We did complain and they did respond quickly but some fundemental flaws.
1. The hotel ( including bedrooms) is very dark, quite tricky to do make up makes it very dingy!!
2. Very slow check in, we had requested 6 twin rooms( emailed to confirm ,as same happened last year) one of the rooms had double mattress ,was sorted out but shouldn't have happened.
BE AWARE this is very common in GC they are phasing out twin beds!
3. No porters on arrival at all tricky when you have small case large case and golf clubs.
4.The wardrobes were very tall, extremely difficult to get clothes on and off hangers. They supplied a child step to our room after complaint! Not much help so we gave up!
5. No tea /coffee etc in room... they supplied a kettle but nothing else when requested . One of the rooms had a kettle but lead so short you had to tilt kettle to use.
6. Bath towels are very small and ours were very poor... again replaced when we complained.
7. Food was pretty good nothing remarkable, except one night when it was really poor, one does need to eat early otherwise a lot has gone and although they replenish they don't replenish everything.
Good position and great little town. Golf was excellent! As previously mentioned they were proactive and the staff were great.
Good location
The hotel itself and the rooms were very dark. Not enough light and no full length mirror in the room
This is a beautiful hotel the decor the gardens all fantastic pool area excellent the biggest disappointment is the food particularly vegetarian. It is purely presented overcooked and pushed to one side as an afterthought.
We went for a day by the pool with buffett lunch. Excellent place and the food was top notch! Highly recommended!
Tolles Zimmer ! Tolle Poollandschaft !
