Would go back, everything was great.
Best snorkeling experience I’ve ever had.
Overall great trip and incredible island,
The staff is amazing! Gorgeous island and accommodations. Food is wonderful . We truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
Stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon before going to Tokoriki. We heard a lot of good things about the “Fijian hospitality” and were excited to experience that but were disappointed with the service experience at Matamanoa. For example, when you walk into the boutique for a pool towel or help it takes the staff awhile to even acknowledge your presence (even if no one else is in line), we also heard the main manager woman curse a few times shortly after arriving and the staff would seem bothered when you asked for something. One time I had asked for coffee and the woman working at the bar said no and to go make it in my room. I’d recommend they get a new manager and read an inspiring book like “Unreasonable Hospitality.”
The food is bad to okay and the ice cream they serve with basically every dessert is freezer burnt.
On the positive side, the island is very beautiful and the rooms are pretty nice so we did enjoy relaxing outside our room. We were excited to use the pool attached to the room- but it was pretty cold so didn’t use it at all. The beach is absolutely beautiful and it’s really cool how you can snorkel right off the shore.
The snokeling off the beach was incredible.
Matamanoa is an idyllic resort. The food was excellent (even the steak which I had two nights). The pancakes (with extra maple syrup) and omelettes were winners at breakfast. I did a snorkelling trip for FJ$103 which took us to two different locations, the first of which was the sandbar where I saw such an amazing lot of colourful fish. It was incredible. We had a gogeous beachside bure which was sunset facing, which I would recommend over the sunrise facing as this side faced where the boats come in and is a bit less private. The singing each night was gorgeous and brought tears to the eyes on more than one occasion. I particularly loved the cultural dancing night, which was a lot of fun and not naff at all - do not miss this for the world!
On a less good note, the massage I had in our couples massage was from a girl who might have done a two-day course at best and had no idea about massage at all (I had to get up and go after 10 mins as this sort of thing makes me incredibly creeped out). This was rectified the next day by one of the boss ladies who gave a very good, relaxing massage.
Coffees at breakwere an additional charge (very expensive). The orange juice at breakfast was full of sugar but we only managed to get this on the last day. Any other juice was an extra charge. Probably worth it as the pineapple juice was much better. G&Ts were nice and strong. Cocktails poor.
Warning - change requests through Expedia were met with obstinance or silence.
The staff was amazing. As a solo traveler, friendly and engaging staff can make the difference between an ok stay and a great stay. The Matamanoa crew was the absolute best!
We were married on Matamanoa Island 25yrs ago. It was beautiful to come back, not just to the resort, but to the people. Family members of those who were in my wedding party are employed there and we're so pleased to see the photos of their aunties, their mum and my warrior still works on the Island. Many thanks to Kelerna for her special efforts in making the memory a lasting one!
We had an amazing stay. Beautiful resort, great island and nice staff.
After staying three othe resorts some more expensive and some cheaper. This is a perfect balance of Fiji custom and location.
Great place to unwind for 5 days or more
Place has a lovely vibe and staff are so will ing to assist
🌴 Idyllic Escape at Matamanoa Island Resort!
This adults-only paradise was the perfect way to end my Fiji adventure. Crystal-clear waters, stunning sunsets, and the kindest staff made every moment unforgettable.
The resort strikes the perfect balance between laid-back luxury and natural beauty. The food was delicious, the rooms spacious and serene, and the island itself—absolutely breathtaking.
Whether you’re diving, relaxing by the infinity pool, or simply soaking in the views, Matamanoa is pure magic. I left with a full heart and can’t wait to return.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An amazing 5 days. We will come back for sure.
The staff were all fabulous. We were initially not impressed with state of bathroom but this was promptly rectified and cleaning was good for the remaining days.
Our bure was fantastic- a few steps from the sand and it had great outdoor area with private plunge pool and day bed.
Breakfast and lunch menus stayed unchanged. They need to anticipate running out of some food items before it actually happens. Food at dinner was generally good and the menu changed daily.
Overall we very much enjoyed our stay.Recommend it for a very quiet lazy time.
Coral reef amazing dor snorkelling
The best holiday we have ever had. The most beautiful place we’ve visited and the kindest team looking after you on your trip.
Loved the spa Bure. Wished for more ala carte menu items . Food was presented nicely and staff was amazing
There are some absolute plusses about this property and some definite negatives. Overall, we had a good visit but would not return. It’s not 4 star and below par of a Club Med. ok if you need a budget trip. The beach front bure on sandy beach is perfect. Great snorkeling off beach. Negatives are mgmt runs it as cheap as possible and food at breakfast and lunch is inedible (had to rely on protein bars) dinner was good. Safety issues of glass not plastic for cocktails in and around pool! Coconut trees not maintained right over chairs and walkways and we saw several fall, very dangerous to not maintain. Staff great but works 15 hrs a day for a month or more with lower pay. They ship laundry to main island so they run out of towels. Used bath and beach towels for several days and had to demand new ones. Wanted to hike up to top of mtn and asked staff who didn’t know how to get there! Mostly retired people on a budget, so just know what you’re getting into. Another couple after arriving was looking to move to another resort. There are ones run far better there we have stayed at, so we know it can be done. I talked to mgr, mostly about horrible food and towels, and he didn’t even respond or say a word and just looked angry. He runs it cheaply and didn’t like being told it wasn’t ok.
Staff were great and beautiful location but service was terrible in restaurants, really feels like they are understaffed.
My husband and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and working staff as well as some other guests became like family. The food was excellent.
We will definitely go back
