Cons:

Categories

Cleanliness
9.5
Multiple guests praise spotless rooms and explicitly mention 'impeccably clean' and good cleanliness ('Sauberkeit'), indicating a very high standard.
Service
9.7
Service is repeatedly highlighted as a strength: attentive, friendly staff, director described as close to guests, named staff (Ray and Mary Jane) singled out for exceptional care and personal touches.
Location
9.8
Consistently lauded — beautiful grounds, panoramic views, near a pier, quiet and restorative setting; location is a standout feature across reviews.
Room Quality
8
Mixed comments: rooms are described as lovely and spacious but often 'old' or 'outdated', with isolated issues (damp smell, noisy closet, bed too hard, minor repairs needed).
Amenities
9
Good on amenities noted: modern bathrooms in some rooms, peat fireplace, library/drawing room/ground access, dog-friendly policy — overall solid offerings for guests.
Value for Money
8
Some guests find the property overpriced relative to certain room standards ('overpriced for the quality of room'), so value is slightly below the overall sentiment.
Food and Beverage
8
Mixed food feedback: several praises for excellent breakfast and notable meals (sea trout, seafood chowder), but a few strong negatives about dinner service and one inedible steak/unresolved complaint.
Overall Experience
10
Overall highly positive and often memorable stays: many rave reviews, birthdays celebrated, recommendations to return — the cumulative guest experience is exceptional.

A Step Back In Time
Pros:

A quaint old mansion filled with antiques and beautiful gardens. Felt like a step back in time. The staff were exceptional, especially the wait staff in the dining room. They were so attentive, friendly, and professional.
Excellent food. Room maintained the feel of a 19th century mansion while including all modern amenities.

Cons:

The location is quite remote and the drive, albeit beautiful, was quite long. There is nothing located nearby so be sure to have all items needed purchased prior to arrival. The price seemed a little higher than other similar places (rooms) we stayed in Ireland, however, you may be paying for the quiet remoteness and the beautiful surroundings.

wish it was better. wanted to love it but didn't mainly for reason above.
Pros:

The house and the rooms are the kind of place I like to be. And it was truly dog-friendly.

Cons:

Main disappointment was the dining room. Food was simply not good enough. Old-fashioned in thought and execution. Who needs half a chicken unless you're going out to save the turf? And the same dish of four vegetables rescued from the bain-marie every night. And two further plate-decoration veg. This is very lazy stuff. A plate of smoked salmon or some lamb cutlets with a plate of two freshly cooked vegetables/potatoes would have been much more appealing and in line with modern appetites.
And a bit more personal interaction from staff wouldn't have gone astray, especially with a solo resident (the woman in the dining room was lovely, though)

Pros:

Very beautiful gardens well worth exploring. Best breakfast in Ireland, possibly in the world! A real treat.
Pros:

We absolutely loved the gardens. They are exceptional and we felt the project to improve them further is very exciting. We also thought that we probably enjoyed the best breakfast we had ever had- it was dreamy. The staff were all delightful and the owner was also very friendly. Excellent cocktails too.

Cons:

The fan didn’t work in our bathroom and the sanitary bin had not been emptied from previous guests when we arrived. The art work and furniture could perhaps be a little more tasteful, in keeping and relevant for such a fine, historic hotel.
