A nice basic place to stay.
Pros:

Overall decent. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable.. The pool was actually heated and pleasant. The staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was poor but what one would expect at this pricepoint. The rooms were quiet. I would return here, but be prepared to eat breakfast elsewhere.

unprofessional staff and terrible location
Pros:

I usually stay at Marriott hotels when I travel, but this time I chose Hyatt for the convenience because it is close to UC Davis.
I had a horrible experience staying at Hyatt Place UC Davis. When I arrived, I noticed that there was a railroad directly in front of the hotel, but I assumed it was no longer active. The room I was given faced the railroad and had a large window. Trains passed by nonstop throughout the night. I could not sleep all night.
The next morning, I went to the front desk and asked a staff member if I could switch to a room that did not face the railroad. She said she would check. I waited in the lobby for about 25 minutes. There were no guests at the desk during that time. The entire 25 minutes, she stood there chatting with coworkers who walked by. The conversations did not appear to be work-related.
After 25 minutes, I approached her and asked whether she had checked room availability for me. She said she would check and let me know. Since I needed to leave for work, I gave her my contact information. She said she would call me once she had an answer.
I never received a call. When I returned to the hotel around 5:00 p.m., a different woman was working at the front desk. When I asked about my request, she seemed surprised and said she had not seen any note from the morning staff regarding a room change. I then asked whether she could check for me, and she replied, “We’re sold out.”
Overall, the staff was very unprofessional, and the location was terrible.

Do not pre pay for rooms at this hotel
Pros:

Was charged multiple times for a pre paid room for Davis Graduation. Staff not helpful in removing additional charges. It still has not been fixed. Do not pre-pay for a hotel here.

Don't stay here~!
Pros:

We have stayed at this Hyatt many times. It is currently a DUMP. We paid over $600 a night due to surge pricing. We expected basic maintenance. The wall paper was coming off in the bathroom. The room smelled off pets. The woodwork was terribly scratched. Someone had painted part of the wall a different color. We had no maid service.

Great place to stay in Davis
Pros:

Not a posh room but clean and a really good size. Comfortable couch and bed. Very friendly front desk staff. Being on campus, not super close to restaurants or entertainment but downtown is within walking distance if you don’t mind a 20 minute walk to get there. Campus is very nice, clean, and quiet ( was there end of May). Only downside was the walls seemed a bit thin, could easily hear activity in the hallway.

Poor Management and Customer Service
Pros:

Very disappointing experience. We were told at check-in that our two reservations could be merged so we could stay in the same room, only to be told the next day that we had to move immediately. The hotel was apparently experiencing technical issues, but guests were not informed in advance.

The manager, Kimdra, was rude and dismissive when we tried to resolve the situation. We were even threatened with additional surcharges despite following the instructions given by hotel staff. Compensation that was discussed was never provided.

Mistakes happen, but poor communication, lack of accountability, and unprofessional management made this a frustrating stay.

Not sleeping at Hyatt Place UC Davis
Pros:

I’m writing the review that I would have appreciated seeing before booking with Hyatt Place Davis. The hotel is located immediately alongside the interstate, and road noise was loudly present inside my room, even with a pillow over my head while trying to sleep. I checked in around 8PM, and it appeared that there was only one employee present on site, which felt unsafe to me as it was a sizeable hotel with multiple unmonitored entries. I was given a room with motorized blinds in the windows; however, controls were not intuitive and raising the blinds was not possible. Therefore, my experience of being in the room was of being in a bunker. The room similarly had unlabeled shower controls, and I was unable to find a setting that turned water off once I finished showering. Therefore, the shower dripped all night. Though this is a suburban location and everyone arrives here by car, there is an additional charge for parking. The off-site parking alternative requires leaving your car alongside a busy road with potential for theft; not an inviting scenario for a traveler. Bottom line, you can probably do better.

Cheap experience for a medium price
Pros:

Bait and switch experience. Booked this hotel over other less expensive ones because of the facilities, in particular the restaurant that the website claims is open 7 days a week from 6 am until midnight. This is not the case. The hotel no longer has a restaurant. It serves a sad breakfast. Having looked at it, we didn't bother eating there. But no other food. The "Market" was even sadder selling a meagre selection of soda, beer, chips etc. and what looked like jello fruit cups. No sandwiches, salads, or the like.

Apart from the blatant lying on the website about food provision (also, the claim of a "high floor" room when the hotel is only 4 stories is a bit dubious), the rest of the hotel was fine but lackluster. Rooms were spacious, if oddly designed with a windowless bathroom taking up half the outward facing wall. This made the place somewhat dingy for work in the day, especially with the lounging and desk area stuck towards the rear. The room was fairly noisy. It had fridge and in room AC units that woke me up several times in the night. A shower that made a high pitch whine when in use, intermittent banging from pipes in the bathroom wall whether we were using the bathroom or not, and the thud of kids running up and down the corridor. Music from some sort of festival and kids playing outside could also be easily heard, but that, at least, was not overnight.

Room was poorly cleaned with a couple of the glasses having something sticky on the rims and one of the towels being stained. TV controller was temperamental. Matress was towards the end of its comfortable life.

There are plenty of hotels in Davis that can meet a similar standard for about 2/3rds of the price. I will be choosing one of those next time.

There was a really lovely woman on reception, though.

Promising, and room to improve
Pros:

Excellent location and lovely staff. (Thank you, Naomi, for finding our reservation!) However, there is considerable room for improvement:

1.) the checking-in system needs to be overhauled. It is very disorganized and we ended up being assigned an extra room that belonged to someone else.
2.) there is a pervasive odor in the hotel (mold/chemical solvent/both?)
3.) the pull-out bed in one of our rooms had dead bugs (we're really hoping that they aren't bed bugs) and crumbs. That same room also had a terrible sewage type smell.

Not a Hyatt experience
Pros:

The hotel needs updating, some deep cleaning and better trained staff. The location is great for those seeking medical treatment on campus. It was odd to have standard pillows on a king bed. The mold in our bathroom was not acceptable. We booked using the Hyatt app and were told the parking fee was 12-14 a night. It’s more. A microwave in the room would be nice. Keeping the refreshment station in the lobby stocked with cup sleeves, lids, a coffee, and hot water would be nice. The female employee whose name begins with an M is great (long dark hair and glasses), the others can be short and a bit rude.

Perfect Davis spot!
Pros:

I cannot say enough about what a great value this hotel is. The rooms were spacious and lovely. The hotel is clean and bright. The staff is delightful. The breakfast was more robust than expected. The location is superb! We came to tour the college with our kids and it was a two minute walk to the welcome center. So convenient. in the evening it was a gorgeous 15 minute walk into the downtown area, bustling with restaurants and shops and something for everyone. Highly recommended - we will definitely be back!

Just Don't
Pros:

I was standing at the counter for 15 minutes and had to make noise for the person to come out and check me in (Not in the middle of the night, but at 4 pm). No one cleaned the room or made the bed while I stayed there. On the second day, I ran the shower for 10 minutes, but the water was still ice-cold. I called the front desk and was told by the girl that she was busy. When I mentioned that I was a customer and that, no matter how busy she is, she needs to take care of me, she responded by saying she would send maintenance. I'm not sure what maintenance was going to do other than see that no hot water was coming out of the faucet...I know how to turn on a shower in a hotel room...I told her I was naked and not to send the maintenance guy. I took a cold shower, got dressed, and came down to check out, only to find she had sent maintenance anyway, even though I told her I was not dressed. When I checked out, I was told they would email me the receipt, I'm still waiting for that....

Mismanaged
Pros:

Location was the best part of our experience. Some of the staff were friendly, while others were not. Pool was filthy both days we were there. Breakfast was poor and haphazardly presented. Floors were not clean. Elevator floors were filthy and sticky with some spilled drinks that and took hours to get cleaned after we notified management.

Pricey Stay
Pros:

This is one of the most expensive stays in Davis. It is in a convenient location but not worth triple the price for other hotels less than a mile away. The amenities do not compensate the price charged. But staff is very pleasant and helpful.

Good experience overall, overnight parking is expensive
Pros:

Good experience overall. The bathroom in our room has a small issue, but otherwise the room was in great condition. The only reason I would not come back to this location is the cost of overnight parking. Since the hotel is right next to campus there was no unpaid parking option. I'll likely stay at another hotel when visiting Davis.

Horrible Experience!!!
Pros:

We booked this hotel for our daughter’s tournament at UC Davis. We tried to check in multiple times and were told our room wasn’t ready yet. At the third check in attempt the manager on duty came out to tell us our room was given to someone else and they were over sold and didn’t have any double beds available. They didn’t even offer to give us two kings. We booked weeks ago. Now we are scrambling to find a hotel. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I would not trust booking here.

Don't waste your time or money
Pros:

First time staying at Hyatt Place UC Davis, and it will be my last time staying there. 1st room they sent me to had not been cleaned and beds were an unmade mess. 2nd room they sent me to had made beds, but the toilet was fully clogged and wouldn't flush at all. 3rd room they sent me to was an "upgrade" for my troubles, but even that room was substandard. Desk leg was broken and had been repaired with a bunch of ugly electrical tape. Scrapes on all furniture in room. Multiple stains on carpet. Everything just looked rough. The whole hotel is showing its age and needs a good refresh. Breakfast area looked like a bomb went off and was poorly stocked and not cleaned up. There are much better places to stay in Davis for less money. UC Davis deserves way better than a beat up, ratty Hyatt Place.
