Backpackers’ ambience, clean, quiet, beautiful views

The Mattenhof resort had its heyday in the 1920s when it was a beautiful luxury resort. I loved looking at their collection of menus and other items in their display cases in the hallway and catching glimpses of Beaux Arts/1910s wallpaper, curtains, and wall paintings in the downstairs and hallways. It would be so cool if someone bought this place and brought it back to its former glory. Currently, part of the building is a backpackers youth hostel, the other half consists of full rooms, though i think some levels are not in use. The lobby has a bar and sports TV, and those who love “football” (US-soccer) had a great time gathering together for the games. Our rooms were quiet and clean, with beautiful views of the mountains. Be sure to ask for the Interlaken Guest Pass to get free bus rides and discounts on the Harder Kulm and more (you must purchase those tickets in person and show the pass).
My teenage boys rented ebikes and loved biking all over town and all the way to Ballenburg and back. My husband and rode on the boats on Lake Brienz—one special boat is a beautifully maintained 1914 steam boat.

Cons:

You won’t find extras like toiletries or kleenex, and they were reluctant to give us extra towels when we needed them.
You must put a towel on the floor of the shower so as to prevent slipping and falling! We found this to be true at every place we’ve stayed.

We overall had a great time, thanks to the location, atmosphere, and staff.

Nice views which was a positive, needs maintenance and hotel didn’t seem to care

Great view from patio, quiet

Cons:

Many things falling apart, had about every door knob fall off in both rooms. Couldn’t close balcony door in one room or lock, had to prop it closed. Reported to front desk and no one came to fix. They seemed to be already aware but not interested in fixing the place.

quasi nulla , un albergo di antichi fasti pressochè in disuso tutto è datato e consunto.

Cons:

bagno rappezzato con fogli adesivi e perdite dalla doccia,, interni tenuti male e terrazzo con parapetto (terzo piano) smurato e rimediato con un intervento di consolidamento discutibile e rabberciato. PERICOLOSO!! -vedi foto.

On paye pour un hôtel et on se croit dans un camping

Emplacement et jardin très bien, chambre agréable et propre

Cons:

Réveil à 1h du matin par un groupe de personne avec chants et guitare électrique dans le parc de l hôtel, il a fallu insister pour que cela cesse, aucune excuse du personnel le lendemain matin

Location was convenient with a fifteen minute walk into town. Did not eat there.

The furniture, carpeting was over worn, unkept, cracked bath tiles. Generally the facilities were poorly maintained.

Pros:

Everything was amazing. The staff was so helpful and nice and the view from the room was incredible. The bathroom was kinda of small, but nothing crazy compared to the swiss standard. It was a very pleasant stay and I would love to come back,
