We love this hotel. It's a beautiful old building in the middle of San Candido. It's immaculately kept. The food is outstanding, the best hotel food we've had consistently over a holiday stay. The staff in the restaurant (Christina!) are just fantastic. And the wine selection would please the most demanding wine lover. The rooms seem to be all pretty individual, they're all immaculate and common areas are well maintained. There is a small spa area on the top of the hotel with stunning views. It's pretty small but suited our needs. (There is a municipal pool in the town.) I've only stayed on the 1st floor (i did ask for a higher room this time, maybe next time.) But noise is minimal.
We went skiing in February, and whilst we wouldn't return to ski (it's quite limited after a few days), we came back to do some walking at the end of September. It's a lovely area. Great shops and mooching about. Cafes etc.
We were disappointed as we thought that walking information would be more easily available. We bought lift passes at the base of the Baranci lift (this would be amazing for kids learning to ski) and it wasn't mentioned that all the walks at the top of the lift were closed due to logging. Which was pretty bad. We explored other cable cars with a mountain pass and Monte Elmo was great. On the last day of our stay there was a tour of Ferraris that came through, loads of amazing cars, but this wasn't advertised anywhere. Which was a shame as my husband missed it. I think there is a lot more going on here but you have to be quite determined to find out what. There seems to a gourmet weekend in October I might aim for next year.
But a few days at this family's hotel are just what you need to recharge and unwind. We will be back.
Staff was friendly and helpful. The included breakfast and complimentary wine testing were nice and appreciated. When we checked in we had no sheets or blankets for the bed. We requested them and were told maybe. We never received any. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The room was uncomfortably hot and dark no matter what lighting we used. It was also very noisy due to nearby construction. I typically like older more traditional hotels. The bathroom and room overall were quite large, just uncomfortable, and I typically like older more traditional hotels. Also the area had very limited dining options
Loved our stay at this little boutique hotel located in the center of the town San Candido. The room was neat and spacious, staff were all very friendly. The spa at the top with a surrounding view is a highlight of the stay where we can rest our body after long hikes!
Even if it was a very short stay, we felt warmly welcomed and at home form the first minute of our stay at the hotel.
Great activities also for the not skiers guest and Mr Franz is a real gentleman and a great connaisseur of winery and wine market.
Food and service were excellent too, as our room.
Beautiful hotel!! Lovely staff!!! I can't wait to come back!! My son and I came into town for the Krampus event and fell in love with San Candido and this hotel! The staff was so friendly and helpful! The Front Desk went above and beyond to help us with questions and getting around. The beds were so comfortable, amenities were lovely!
Very clean. Comfortable. Enjoyed the saunas. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Very accomodating towards our needs
I thoroughly enjoyed my 3-night stay at the Orso Grigio including the wine tasting and guided hike with Franz.
Thank you for making me feel like a queen with all the luxurious touches. I was even picked up from and dropped off at the train station and given a transport pass for the duration of my stay.
Excellent property. Staff was wonderful specially the front desk and the restaurant staff. A real gem.
O hotel está muito bem localizado. O atendimento e a gentileza de todos foram destaques. Tudo perfeito.
From the moment you walk into this hotel, you'll wish you could stay a month. This hotel is the essence of charming. The lobby is large with gorgeous period chairs to sit in. A guest is greeted with ice water and nibbles. The lobby opens into a tea room where one can find tea and snacks. The staff are friendly and you'll surely be greeted by the owner who has worked hard at making this hotel comfortable and grand. The bedrooms are different sizes and decors. If you're lucky, you'll get one with a view of the plaza and beyond that, an extremely tall, rugged part of the Alps right outside of town. Breakfast was plentiful with home made pastries, fresh jams, fruits, eggs made to order all placed in an elegant setting. Didn't eat a dinner here, but I have no doubt it would be spectacular.
Consigliatissimo!
This hotel is fabulous - the staff are really warm and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble! The dining room is candlelit, which makes a wonderful atmosphere. The food is fabulous at both breakfast and dinner. Lovely touches everyday with cake and aperitif or hot wine. A really relaxing experience. Bedroom was lovely, brilliant shower. Real fire in lobby and a gentle soft atmosphere to sit and read a book with an aperitif. The owner Franz is charming and engaging and takes time to talk to all of the guests. Really worth a visit for a truly relaxing getaway in a pretty town in the mountains.
The convenience is obvious, you are in the center of San Candido, an elegant resort in Val Venosta with shops, restaurants and sport equipment venues of all sorts. The rooms are comfortable, nice large bathrooms and modern wood paneling makes for a cosy and neat space. The restaurant is the best part of the experience if you decide to opt for the half board: every evening three different menus, vast well sorted salads and cheese buffet, service discrete but never stiff, dishes are creative, beautifully presented and VERY good. The owner even organised a wine tasting for the guests. Value is also an attribute I would choose here because you have free steam bath and sauna, absolute silence and fast free internet, plus a snow shoes all day event with a professional guide. So everything was perfect ? Almost, the only minor observation: the charger for our Tesla was capable of working with 22 KW but was limited at 4, meaning longer charging times. No biggie. Great experience, recommended.
There are no words that can be enough to describe our stay here. Everything was excellent !!!!!
First let start with San Candido, a town out of a story book. And in the middle is this hotel. We met the owner Frantz, who is everyday there greeting and make sure you have a great stay.
Rooms are impeccable and very comfortable.
The staff is very friendly and professional and they are willing to help you with anything you need.
Breakfast is superb. Very nice ambience, great selection and abundant.
They include the renting of bicycles and we used them to ride 40 miles to Leinz in Austria. This ia a must do.
Very close to all the mountain attractions.
We will definitely come back.
The service on this hotel was exceptional. Sofia was very helpful and she always smiled while helping me. The location was right in the center and the beds were very comfortable. The tea snacks at 4 pm were also a treat. Simply a great hotel to stay at.
Top Service, top Lage!
Sehr freundliches Personal. Sehr gutes Frühstückbuffet.
Tolle Weinauswahl und sehr gute Küche!
