Cons:

Categories

Cleanliness
5.5
Multiple mentions of dilapidated rooms, plastering/redecoration needed and general poor upkeep; a few guests noted pleasant/delightful rooms but overall cleanliness/upkeep is a weakness.
Service
9.4
Staff repeatedly described as friendly and helpful; restaurant service and a manager's handling of a mistake were praised, though isolated instances of poor service were reported.
Location
7.8
Convenient for walkers (close to the Cotswold Way) with good parking and a pleasant setting, but several guests reported noise from a busy intersection and occasional events making nights noisy.
Room Quality
5.8
Rooms often described as small or awkwardly laid out, with lumpy mattresses, broken curtains/fixtures and no AC in warmer weather leading to hot/stuffy conditions.
Amenities
7.7
Mixed amenities: parking, a good bar and orchard/dog-friendly space are positives, but lack of air conditioning, few bus connections and some missing/aged fixtures reduce the score.
Value for Money
7.2
Split opinions: several guests found meals and stays good value, while others felt the rooms and condition did not justify the price.
Food and Beverage
8.8
Food and restaurant service are frequently praised (grilled salmon, shepherd's pie, hot plates, reasonable prices); isolated comments mention poor food quality, but dining sentiment is largely positive.
Overall Experience
8.6
A mixed overall experience: many guests enjoyed the food, setting and helpful staff and would return for dining or short stays, but maintenance, room quality and noise reduce the experience for some.

Comfortable, old fashioned pub stay
Pros:

The room was adequate, the bed was comfortable and the shower was good. The food was very good too, once it arrived. Nice old fashioned pub hotel. Also quiet.

Cons:

I think they were short staffed, we had to wait for everything - at reception for the key, at dinner for both drinks and food (then the food arrived before the drinks). Tables in the bar were messy and not cleaned the whole time we were there after dinner. We had to wait AGES for breakfast, it was a good thing we weren't in a hurry. We would stay there again though.

We are delighted to have found this gem and the great team who work there
Pros:

The staff were consistently friendly, professional and caring. The facilities were clean, tidy and everything we needed was supplied. The meals were well prepared, professionally presented and good value for money.

Cons:

The wifi, while free, was irritating in that we were constantly required to keep re-sign on by first visiting the company website every time we changed pages. It was quite odd and annoying.

Not enough staff to give an excellent hotel experience. The rooms served us well and good location for an event we were
Pros:

Character and charm, staff were friendly and helpful.
Loved the big room and big bath!
The cooked breakfast and continental options were good.

Cons:

Our room lock was difficult to use - it took 3 different members of staff to figure out.
There was a hotel reception area, however, because it’s part of a greene king pub, you had to wait for the bar staff to be free to help you with any hotel questions.
The building itself is very old but the finish/quality of the decoration or diy jobs is poor (cracks in walls filled in but not finished, walls half painted).
The staircase towards the rooms smelled of old drains.
At breakfast there was only one member of staff for the breakfast service. She did an excellent job but it was a lot for 1 person to do - seat the guests, take their orders, make drinks behind the bar, serve the hot food once it was ready and stock up the continental breakfast. Hence it was slow. She really needed help!

Sadly not as nice as depicted in the photos
Pros:

The bedroom itself was decorated nicely along with the bath and shower being great. The sheets and towels were clean

Cons:

The seating was tired and torn in the restaurant, food ok … the smell in the hall and in to the room was seriously awful and grubby stairway and the sink in the bathroom was blocked and unusable …. We had to open the window and as the room was a corner room the road on both sides made it a bit noisy

Pros:

Food good, staff very friendly and excellent service. A few parts of hotel restaurant and bar need either re decorating or upgrading. The shower was excellent looked like it had been renovated recently.
