Excellent location, very central. Room was recently renovated and felt new and clean. Ample restaurant with very friendly service and great food. Large (free) parking lot in the back.
A very little thing: The doors of the rooms make a very loud noise when closing, so you will wake up as soon as the first guests start to go for breakfast.
The superior room was clean and spacious. Bed very comfortable. The front of house staff were helpful, welcoming, especially the person who advised me re car parking.
We ate in restaurant the evening of our stay and the food was very disappointing, especially the steak which was grey and the pie had been hanging around. I wouldn't serve a meal like we had to anyone. Did not complain as it is obviously the Greene King policy to serve bought-in food, nothing home made. Breakfast - poached eggs overdone, scrambled egg tasteless. A shame that a pub chain resorts to poor quality and can't provide home made, tasty, well-cooked meals.
No biscuits provided in room - unusual for cost of room.
Lack of toiletries disappointing - hand wash on its side above basin.
All in all, the food and small details failed to match the standard of the room and the cost.
Staff were so friendly
A little fridge in the room would be great.
Comfortable room with everything I needed from the point of view of a single traveller. Bathroom and bed were good. Staff were polite and efficient. I didn't eat at the restaurant so I cant comment on the food but I met up with a friend for a comfortable afternoon hot drink in the bar before heading out for an event.
Nothing
Exceptional stay and staff!
Nothing we didn't like. Staff were super friendly professional and run a tight ship I'd like to especially mention elouise our waitress who was bubbly and attentive, the chefs for Exceptional food, Rian, Alicia jade and Ruth at reception, being nosy, Alicia showed me around the hotel which is actually huge! Rian is an absolute delight! With a wonderful sense of humour! It's lovely to see staff so in tune with each other, whatever management are doing keep it up it really glows throughout this establishment.
Great room comfy bed ,hot fabulous shower, hairdryer, fan And adjustable heating to suit own preference tea and coffee in room, iron etc the cleanliness by house keepers is a credit to the company.
Lovely shops and pubs nearby a Sainsbury's in walking distance and car parking at the back free just let reception know car reg.
We will absolutely be back and advise others to stay here.
My other half said toilet brush lol 😆
More milk satchets in room please
We loved the swan & the history behind it,we stayed here for our Wedding Anniversary & Easter break. It's a very comfortable, relaxing & friendly place to stay or just pop into for a drink or a meal. Our room looked out on to the high street,so Its location is perfect, very central with parking at the back which is free during your stay there.
The staircase is just beautiful & all the original features are so lovely.
Breakfast was good, and as a coeliac, I had a gluten-free menu with a choice of options.
There is also a help yourself area with cereals, pastries & toast not all Glutenfree friendly sadly but the fruit & yogurt is & G/F toast available on request.
We also had 2 evening meals during our stay, which again catered for coeliacs with a selection of gluten-free dishes. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere & is well organised with happy & friendly staff.
We'd love to return to the swan for another stay in the future.
The swan is a very old building and you have to embrace some of its quirky quality's
Like very creaky floors in our room!!
The decor also in our room needed a bit of TLC sadly.
Also bit of a disappointment with my starter on our second evening meal, I had ordered the same starter as the night before as it was so good, but when i got it,it looked nothing like it did the previous night, missing most of the ingredients!!
Had to obviously ask why & eventually I got it rectified.
But it was a bit awkward!!
But other than that we did enjoy our stay.
We were allocated a room in the attic portion of the property, which was large and spacious. The beds were comfortable, and the water pressure in the shower was excellent.
The overall condition of the room felt quite tired and in need of attention. There were several patches of wallpaper peeling from the ceiling, a hole in the bathroom wall, and the floorboards were extremely creaky. Overall, it just felt a bit shabby and could do with refurbishment.
Lovely historical hotel, good value for money, friendly staff
