Spent a fabulous 2 nights here, staff are incredibly friendly and very helpful. Our room was large and very clean, we chose to not have housekeeping during our stay so they left a note to collect more milk and tea bags from reception, very obliging. Breakfast was fabulous with plenty of choice. Restaurant and bar were great and the best orange gin spritzer for only £6.95. Added benefit is the free car park. Just walk out the door and you're in the high street.
The food was excellent and staff really friendly. Our room was facing on to high street but excellent secondary glazing so didn’t hear any noise. Really well situated on the high street with its own parking which was handy as parking on high street was full. Lovely big room. Very clean.
Had a lovely one night stay after meeting with family at a local restaurant. Lovely greeting at reception and room just a short walk. Only complaint was the room was very cold on entering, but soon remedied by turning up the radiator valve.
Hotel very central with great parking. Bar staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast good, especially for the amount we paid. Gregory the breakfast server was incrediblely welcoming and helpful.
Would certainly stay again and recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the area.
Character, charm and creaks. Marlborough is an historic town with much to admire in the town and around the area. When you are fortunate enough to stay in such an area it is good to stay somewhere that is in sympathy with its surroundings.
The Castle and Ball stands proud on the high street and is sympathetic to all the surrounding period properties. Time has missed many beats in Marlborough. The hotel is central to such modern day amenities as Waitrose and even there it is like stepping back in time. In Marlborough staff have time for you, you feel special. It’s all so civilised.
The car parking for the property is through a fairly tight alleyway, it may well have been the coaching inn entrance to the stables. Plenty of space when I visited and it’s free for guests.
Check in is where you start to feel the welcome in the Marlborough meet. Professional, friendly and efficient. From the check in desk I could see many customers availing themselves of the victuals the establishment had on offer.
My room was vast with a walk in wardrobe, large en-suite and king size beds. Don’t come here expecting 21st century building finishes, it is an old lady of a building, in parts slightly faded but well kept. Furthermore, as with old ladies there are a few creaks but I always find this satisfying as it is so in keeping with aged structures.
The evening sittings finish at 9pm and weekend breakfast is 8-10am. I thought breakfast was outstanding with traditional favourites through to healthy modern options to choose from.
Would I opt to stay at the Castle and Ball again. Yes for sure!
Really good food had dinner and breakfast, accommodating of my many food intolerances.
Only reason didn't give top marks is because the bed was too squishy for me. Loved the building, the stairs and floors are a sight to behold
Brilliant new years eve.great staff, great food.absolutely wonderful, and entertainment was superb. Still singing even writing this review. And a special thank you for staff, for going above and beyond for sending us a parcel that was linked too item's left in our room on checkout. Many many thanks, what a kind reaction.
Stayed in room 20 from the 7th to the 9th Dec for sons wedding brilliant stay staff wonderful especially Gregory who was very helpful and seemed to be everywhere great asset to have keep up the good work
First stay and very comfortable. Staff efficient and very friendly. Rooms could do with a lick of paint and some refurbishment - especially bathrooms but really basic but clean and comfortable bed.
A lovely hotel with loads of history. Good room with a very comfortable bad. A good range of wines and ales. A good menu with plenty of GF options. Very good staff team!
Hospitality is about people - and nowhere is this demonstrated more in abundance than at the Castle & Ball, a former coaching inn that dates back to the 15th century and, most certainly, one of my favourite UK hotels. The front desk team includes Amy and Claire - two lovely ladies that always welcome guests with a genuine smile and a commitment to make one's stay as comfortable as possible. This was truer than ever on my latest visit - a one-night stop that allowed me to indulge once again in the excellent cooked breakfast. I always select the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Highly recommended. Properties of this age and vintage demand constant maintenance and it's fair to suggest that there are one or two nooks and crannies that haven't seen a paintbrush since Royalist troops dropped in for a refreshing ale or two after their famous victory at nearby Roundway Down. But this does nothing to dilute the charm of the hotel and, importantly, its staff. With Amy and Claire at the front desk you may be assured of a warm welcome. Always.
Honestly, It was amazing from the staff to the food and drinks! Amy on the desk was so welcoming and pleasant, Trish was so helpful in the restaurant for our evening meal and her service was perfect. The room was absolutely lovely, so full of Wiltshire character! Would highly recommend this place.
Been staying at the castle & ball for about 10 years. Summer holidays and always stay 2 nights for the Mop fair
The staff and especially the manager Claire who really goes the extra mile.
Beds are so comfy and clean.
Breakfast lovely and staff extremely friendly
It’s creaky flood are all part of the old inn.
Location brilliant.large carpark
Just relax the minute you arrive
Great hotel, fantastic value and ideal location.
Very friendly staff and great atmosphere overall.
Also the onsite parking was a real bonus!
Has free parking so that was great! Steps are brutal so if anyone is staying there, take minimal stuff up to the room.
Worst experience ever, manager not attending, staff just having coffees and ignoring us, very bad experience . Clearly something is wrong
Staff on reception always welcoming. Stayed numerous times, apart from squeaky floorboards which cannot be helped in an old building, everything is fine.
Plenty of spaces in the free car park, quick smooth checkin, nice room, comfortable bed. Bar area nice to have a drink could have better selection of ales and lagers. Dinner and breakfast was really nice in the restaurant area. We were part of a large group the lady on reception was really helpful nothing was too much trouble. Woukd happily stay here again if in the area.
First, Marlborough is a lovely little town, full of independent shops and plenty of restaurant choices. The Castle and Ball Hotel has an old inn feel to it and, as such, immediately feels warm and welcoming when entering. The double room we had was well appointed, comfortable and clean although (and this is a personal bugbear and doesn't detract from my positive views of the inn) it was on the top floor and at the furthest end of the hotel. On the upside, it was deemed to be the quietest room! The bar and food offerings were really good, as was the breakfast, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I read another review about this hotel which stated that the staff needed training; there was no context given for such a comment and all I can say is that, in our experience, everyone knew their jobs and fulfilled them to a high standard; the staff at the Castle and Ball are a valuable asset. We have stayed there twice now and will definitely be going again - it did no disappoint.
Parking was easy and secure
Food was typical pub food but good
Staff were kind and helpful
Room was clean and comfortable
Very picturesque, old hotel. Good food and selection of drinks in the bar, staff friendly and helpful.
The room was a good size and comfortable, although I'm not sure 4 people could stay for long in it. However, the floorboards in the room creaked whenever you walked on them and the fan in the bathroom was the loudest I've heard in a long time! Important if, like me, you're up to the toilet during the night and your partner is sleeping.
Certainly full of character!
