The hotel's location is very good. It was very clean, the room was large, and the staff was very polite. I'll definitely be back.
Un hotel fair play si sincer. Dozare corecta pret/calitate.
If you're looking for affordable accommodation in the city center where guests aren't treated well, this hotel is perfect for you.
The room was supposed to have an electric kettle, but it wasn’t there. I asked for it in person from the front desk clerk, who spoke very little English. Fortunately, after using a Romanian-English translator, he understood, and a few minutes later he actually brought the electric kettle to our room.
Free toiletries were provided in the bathroom.
Free Wi-Fi was available throughout the hotel.
We stayed at the Astoria City Center Hotel because of its excellent location, positive reviews, and reasonable price. However, our personal experience was a bit different.
We were accommodated in an uninviting and uncomfortable double room with a private bathroom featuring a shower. From the room, we had a view of the inner courtyard, the opposite wall, and the roof of another building.
During our 3-night stay at the hotel, the housekeeping staff did not clean our room or change our towels. The hotel apparently does not provide shower mats. Instead, we had to use a towel. Given the mold in our bathroom, we didn’t risk using the hotel’s sauna and hot tub just to be safe. I don’t even want to imagine what’s living in the carpet, which probably dates back to when the hotel first opened. The furnishings in both the room and the bathroom were old and in need of renovation.
The hotel restaurant is open only for breakfast. The hotel serves a modest continental breakfast buffet. The scrambled eggs were bland and contained more milk than eggs, along with two types of cheese and tomatoes. On the first day, there was nothing sweet to go with the coffee; on the second day, they served store-bought cookies. We preferred to stop in town for coffee. We tried to spend as little time as possible at the hotel. We only went there to sleep.
When I checked in, I told the receptionist that we would be leaving the hotel before breakfast was served on our last day. I asked her if they could prepare a small snack for us. She suggested toast, which made me very happy. When we checked out, there was a different receptionist at the front desk, who, of course, knew nothing about my previous arrangement with the other receptionist. If the receptionist had apologized at check-in and told me that they wouldn't be providing breakfast, I would have been less upset than I was when they promised something and then didn't follow through.
