Smithfield Station

The hotel staff were wonderful. And the hotel was wonderful - scores of 9 or 10 in every category. But now I must evaluate Booking.com. My wife has a disability, and it is often difficult to find a suitable room for her. I noticed moments after I booked the room on Booking.com that the room was not accessible by elevator, although the room was listed as accessible. But I could not change the reservation. I would have to emphasize that the hotel staff were wonderful and assisted the best they could after Booking.com proved completely useless, but the hotel staff were not able to view the reservation. After booking the room (which I should have done through the hotel website or via phone), I tried to cancel my reservation. But there was only one option - cancel with no refund. But Booking.com never responded to any of my calls through their customer service number. All I got was a recorded message offering to sell some medical device which I did not want. I could never get a real voice. And Booking.com nearly ruined the whole trip. I had to wait until the morning of leaving before I knew that there was an available room. I will never use Booking.com again. Booking.com is not even giving me a chance to evaluate themselves. (I did have trip insurance, but that proved unhelpful - there was no option to cancel the reservation due to inaccessibility.)

Pretty location on the water.

Beautiful place to visit. My husband and I had a wonderful time there. Definitely worth the trip and I’d definitely recommend to others. Food and view were awesome. Customer service was amazing too.

I celebrated my 60th birthday with about 50 more individuals which included family, friends, and colleagues. We enjoyed our dinner in the Smithfield Station Restaurant. The service and food was outstanding. I am looking forward to coming back. Customer service was outstanding!!!

We loved the Smithfield area and the Smithfield Station overall was very unique. The staff were very friendly and the Restaurant food was excellent. The hotel is a quaint historic building and the room had nice updates. Wonderful walk in shower, and very comfortable bed.

Love the location. The room view was excellent. The bridge construction is finally over, which is a good thing. The staff was friendly, and the morning buffet staff was excellent. Main area of concern would be the room. Noticable, cost cuttting or lack of attention issues. The overhead light was out. The bulbs used in the bedside lamps were one-way, but should be 3-way. There was dehumidifier in the room, which required to be emptied, 2 to 3 times a day. Overall, I like the hotel very much, but will not stay in the main building again. Last is the TV, small and very hard to read. Basically a free wi-fi. You have to put in your user information in order to watch anything of content. I take a hard pass on putting my information and then remembering I have to log out, prior to leaving. I just want to check the weather. I will most likely try to stay in one of the cottages that we really liked in the past. We shall return, good people, just needs to work on the small things. It is a good place to stay, safe and staff is very polite.

Our power went out for half our stay. I let it slide the first day, but after the second day, my partner and I discussed that I should say something and try to get some of my money back. While I understand that weather is sometimes out of our control, I paid for luxury. So, I expect luxury. We stayed in the nicest suite, the lighthouse, and I paid well in advance. The hotel stated that their policy is not to refund for forces outside of their control. However, it kind of was in their control. One would expect a luxury hotel to have a backup generator or something with all the money people spend there. Therefore, it is MY policy to write this negative review. Do not stay here. You are better off staying in Richmond or closer to Virginia beach where there is stuff going on. This lousy hotel didn't even offer to compensate us in any way. They will take your money and laugh in your face. Total swindlers.

2 night stay was good. Room was very clean. Check in was terrible. Even if your room is ready you cannot check in until exactly 3:00. The location was wonderful, walking trail across the street, downtown is walkable as well. Oak and Ivy restaurant across the bridge was a 10/10 for food and drinks. Pool was clean & provided towels. We would go back based on location.

It was ok, but some items taste old

The restaurant was charming, with a beautiful view, drinks and appetizers were delicious!!! Our room was spacious, clean, extremely & comfortable. We took time to relax and to sit on the balcony and enjoy the nighttime view. Even though it was hot, we loved that we could enjoy the fireplace while watching TV, without having to have heat from it. We can not wait to go back again!!

The hotel is in an excellent location. There are several museums and wineries close by. We visit Smithfield once or twice a year. Our nephew lives about 10 minutes away. The hotel is very clean and the bed is comfortable. The pool is an added plus in the Summer. The small breakfast buffet is included in the rate. It is only Monday-Saturday. There is a Sunday brunch which is not included. We have not tried the restaurant, but we have heard good things about it.

Great location and very good hotel. We stayed at a cottage (the Fly Fishing room) and we had a great view of the marina and the marshes beyond. The room was clean, well decorated, and roomy. The only drawback to the location is if a large pleasure boat docks in front of the room and blocks your view. This did not happen except on the day we were leaving. Two chairs were available to sit on the porch and enjoy the view. The room could use a microwave.

Took my wife there for her Birthday! We had a wonderful time! We stayed above the restaurant and the room and scenery were great! the pool was awesome too!
The staff was great and welcoming. The food was good and the bar staff each day were friendly.
We will definitely be going back soon.

Outdated to say the least. Safety, cameras non noted. Stairwell doors don't close. Damp room from carpet to bedding. Dumped humidifier 2x a day.
Had to pay $30 more dollars for late check out.
Boaters, fisherman paradise.
