Great location. Close to small town with restaurants. Hotel has as a bar/restaurant, but was closed the night we were there. Breakfast was a basic Scottish breakfast. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Room was nice (superior room) but could use a new mattress. No elevator.
Staff support and response
Everything, the location is great, the hotel is well maintained, the staff was always helpful, and our room was very comfortable.
Nothing
Location
Outdated, musty, lumpy beds
Breakfast was excellent and dinner was very good.
Great location
Rooms are rundown and bed was very uncomfortable
Staff not very approachable
No water for a period of time so unable to shower or flush toilet
Nothing
Was met at reception by a man who was more interested in what he was eating than booking me in. Threw the paper and pen at me to sign then just dropped the key down, not pleasant!
Then went to the bar for a drink before going to the room to be met by another elderly gent who was just as unpleasant asked " are you wanting something?" To which I replied manners wouldn't go a miss.
They only had bottled beer. Had one then went to room 43, very old, not clean.
On leaving to go for a meal elsewhere I mentioned to reception that I'd like to speak to Duty manager( who wasn't on the property) sk I settled for after breakfast chat the next. Oh no, she called several times while I was eating!!!
Fast forward, this morning, dirty plates at breakfast, frozen bread for toast, just awful selection for cooked breakfast( help yourself).
Then, shower was a dribble. Will not be back.
Wonderful ambience with lots of lovely features
Rooms was cozy and comfy ☺️
This hotel has a history that is evident in the facilities. The room was very clean, the beds were comfortable. We had a very good breakfast!
Ample parking, centrally located and right next to shops and restaurants. I also love some of the old era decor, especially when you enter reception and the dinning are. Staff were helpful and pleasant and I enjoyed the breakfast. I also loved how comfy the bed was too, didn’t want to get up in the mornings because of how comfy it was! Room is small but it was cosy and there is also plenty of storage too. The place is more of a hostel than a hotel and I also enjoyed how your free to come and go as you please despite the time
The room was cold so had to keep the electric radiator on most of the time, otherwise it quickly goes cold again. Lack of sockets to charge phone or use kettle wasn’t great either. Also didn’t like the tinted mirrors as it was difficult to apply make up with. The hot tap is actually the cold tap and vice versa. Also, when using the hot tap it will suddenly burst a blast of super hot water at you when washing your hands! Also after reading some reviews I never tried the shower and also especially with how the hot tap was too.
Breakfast was lovely, although reduced in offering.
The room horrendous. The ceiling looked like it had black mould (but we think it was just a really bad attempt to cover something bas paint job) there was a step (about an inch in height) into bathroom which i went flying on and broke a toe (no warning to highlight step) bathroom was unclean and outdated with mix match colours. White toilet seat on awful beige suite dark green wall Ripped carpet, broken (and sharp) vent heater in window sill. Easily have cut someone. Just all in all for price paid it was bot worth it. It wasn’t as expected a Scottish lodge more of an outdated 1960s set. Very disappointed.
The hotel was in a good position
It was a little rundown. We had a problem with the bathroom door handle
Nothing!
Old, uncomfortable mattress. Damp smelling throughout. Our whole experience was awful. The old gentleman in the bar just pointed us to the menus with a "sit where you want" only bottled beer available at £13 for 2 and cash only! We didn't eat there. Breakfast was terrible, cold dried up and the only tasty part was the beans! I definitely would not recommend staying here. I have stayed in better bunk houses that didn't cost £130.
