We had an amazing few days in the Eccles Hotel for our wedding on New Year's Eve. The hotel was fabulous!! Perfect for a winter wedding, with it's cosy & warm atmosphere, fires in the reception area, historic building, beautiful decor & stunning view from the exceptional bridal suite. Mags, Dylan & their team were a dream to deal with, incredibly helpful, professional & welcoming. They made the whole process very easy for us & many of our guests commented on their attentive hospitality over the few days. The food in the hotel was delicious & the staff were very accommodating to our guests at breakfast each morning. We couldn't rate the hotel high enough & we would definitely recommended the Eccles as a wedding venue to any couple.
Myself and my (now) wife like to treat ourselves to nice weekend breaks down at Eccles, we just love the hotel's unique charm of old historic exterior, modern bedroom decor, amazing food and a delightful spa to relax away the stresses of life while looking out toward Garinish Island and Bantry Bay.
We chose to have our wedding reception at Eccles hotel as we already knew the service provided by the hotel staff was to a very high level.
Mags who is the hotel's wedding coordinator met with us early on, guided us through the wedding planning and really went above and beyond to make our Wedding Reception at Eccles Hotel so special (thanks again Mags!). We were thrilled with the quality of the reception, the exceptional food and outstanding service from start to finish. Many of our wedding guests have mentioned to us that they are already planning a return stay at the hotel as they were so impressed.
We would highly recommend couples planning a wedding reception to consider Eccles Hotel.
We got married in the Eccles in September 2025. What an experience!! From day 1 of going to see the hotel& initial contact to the day of the wedding& even after, we couldn't find a single fault. Mags, the wedding coordinator, and manager Dylan were the most professional, friendly & helpful people. We couldn't have asked for anymore. Mags made the whole experience so stress free. The food was nothing short of amazing- and is every time we visit for a stay or just lunch. The bridal suite is beautiful. We cant wait to come back again for another stay. The Eccles is second to none. A truly family orientated, friendly place. Staff like Mags are one of a kind. Our wedding wouldnt have been the same without her!
We had our wedding @ the Eccles on May 10th 2025 and everything was perfect from start to finish! Mags and all the staff went over and above from the minute we first met them and we couldn’t have wished for more. Our guests are still talking about how much they loved everything from the rooms to the food and the amazing cocktails at our drinks reception ! The tasting afternoon was a close second to the wedding day itself!! 🤤 Mags added so many personal touches to the day for us and the chef even incorporated some of my dads local west cork honey in our desert 🍯🐝 We can’t wait to come back for a visit soon 😍
I had my wedding here and had an excellent experience.
Mags and the team looked after us extremely well. Especially the bar staff were lovely.
Thanks again to the whole team for all the hard work.
We had our wedding reception at the Eccles in September 2025. If you are looking for a wedding venue I couldn't recommend it highly enough. We planned the wedding from Australia which we thought would make it difficult. Mags and the team went above and beyond and made everything so easy. They were so accommodating and Mags had suggestions for things we could do that we would never have thought of.
The food was amazing and all dietary requirements were catered for which our guests really appreciated. The location is stunning and the hotel has so much character it makes it stand out from other hotels in West Cork.
We had the best day and we are so happy we chose the Eccles ❤️
Stayed or for a wedding. Very friendly staff, well equipped modern bathrooms for a historic hotel
Interesting layout (being a historic building) with terraced floors following the contour of the hillside. Absolutely incredible views
If your thinking of booking for your wedding 100% do it. We had our wedding here back in October and it was perfect I wouldn't changed a thing. Mags and her team were outstanding. From the moment we booked the venue Mags was on hand to help with anything and everything, day or night, even the night before the wedding Mags was on hand with any problem I had (we had Storm Amy incoming) so was little stressed whether guests and suppliers would actually be able to make it (they all did). The morning of the wedding I got ready downstairs in the hotel and despite the storm it was a very calm and chill morning. We had both ceremony and reception all the in hotel and everything went smoothly and was perfect. Location and scenery are an added bonus. Guests are still complimenting Mags and the hotel 3 months later. We cant wait to go back for our 1st anniversary ❤️
We had a wedding celebration in August 2025 at Eccles, in the Bay View Terrace and the whole team was very caring and extra professionnal. Also, we were a very small wedding of 12 people but Mags and her team never made us feel "small", on the contrary. From the first contact via email until after the event, we had a very professional, thoughtful and kind experience.
The food was perfect and very well presented.
Thanks to the whole team at Eccles !
We had our wedding at the Eccles and couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience. Although our wedding was small, the hotel made us feel just as special as if we had filled the ballroom.
Mags was absolutely wonderful from start to finish — so supportive throughout the entire planning process and exceptional on the day itself. Every member of staff went above and beyond to make everything run smoothly, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.
The food was superb, with great care taken to cater for everyone’s needs, which our guests really appreciated. The location is simply fabulous and added so much to the overall experience.
We truly couldn’t say enough good things about the Eccles and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone considering it for their wedding or a special occasion.
We got married in June 2025 and had our reception at the Eccles hotel.
From the first day we viewed it, we knew it was for us. The hotel itself is charming, and not to mention the views but the real selling point of the Eccles is its people.
Mags the wedding co ordinator , Marcus and all the team at the Eccles make you feel like it’s one big family and it really is . The attention to detail, and the exclusivity with which they give you for your wedding day is nothing short of magic, and is hard to find in today’s world.
From our planning meeting to the wedding testing our whole day was made feel completely at ease. Nothing was a problem and Mags even had suggestions for us we never thought of.
We were treated like absolute royalty
They are truly the creators of magic
What is extra special is the hotel is exclusively yours on the day of the wedding so the team is fully focused on preparation and delivery for the wedding and it shows !
For many of our family and friends this was all our first time at a wedding in the Eccles - everyone was so impressed. It must be West Corks best kept secret - not to mention the views from the ballroom !!
The personal touch the Eccles has , is what sets it apart. It really feels like a family run hotel - and is hard to believe it’s not.
The Eccles became our home for that weekend. It was the team that made it feel like such.
The food, the generosity of the canapés, the drinks , the little touches of decor throughout the hotel were all noticed by us and our guests
This is a gem, we are so thrilled we went with our gut from that first viewing and booked it
While I would love to keep it all to myself , they deserve all the success and should be recognised for all the hard work they put in to creating magic
Eccles - the creator of magic
To Mags ( and all the team whom we all knew on first name basis by the end ) , thank you for all you do
We have memories for a lifetime and looking forward to visiting for our anniversary and many more of life’s milestones to come
They deserve 5 stars and more x
Rather disappointing trip for a 4 star hotel. We ate in the bar the first night and the food was nothing special, rhe fish cakes over cooked and burnt and the fish and chips had more batter than fish in it. The breakfast was very disappointing with limited options and the hot food made to order only warm and not fresh.
The spa was nice but elements were very run down. Aoife was amazing however.
When checking out we weren’t even asked how we found the stay etc.
Rather disappointing stay for a 4 star hotel.
I must state that Eccles had been my favourite place to celebrate our wedding anniversary—until now. We had booked the Yeats Suite again in June, and we looked forward to returning to Glengarriff in November with great joy and the hope of enjoying another memorable stay. It was our 33rd anniversary. We checked in on Friday, 14 November, fully expecting to have a pleasant time. Unfortunately, the hotel is no longer the same, and many aspects require attention.
We arrived on Friday and dined at the Harbour Restaurant. Although the food was good, the atmosphere had changed; many worn-out elements surrounded us. The ground-floor ladies’ toilets had once offered Voya products, but this was no longer the case.
The Yeats Suite had been renovated, yet the elegance of the original room had vanished, replaced by an eclectic, mismatched décor that created the impression of a pawn shop. The bathroom no longer features the jacuzzi advertised on the hotel’s website (it had one in the past), and the bathtub, rather than being copper, is made of cheap plastic painted in a copper-like colour. The faucets are also low-quality, contributing to a general lack of luxury. Although the bathroom had been fully renovated, its former charm was lost, replaced by an uninspired combination of white and grey.
On the table was a letter from the hotel’s team assuring us that they would provide anything we needed, yet this felt contradictory, as room service was not functioning properly. On Friday evening, we went to the Garnish Restaurant. The food was good but no longer exceptional, unlike in the past (though perhaps we are simply nostalgic). Although we had a voucher for dinner, we chose not to use it, preferring to save it for Saturday to celebrate our anniversary; thus, we paid for Friday’s meal.
That evening, we filled in the form requesting breakfast in our room the next morning. On Saturday, however, we received a very disappointing breakfast: the eggs were cold, and both the coffee and tea were watery. We had ordered a full Irish breakfast, but I could not eat much, as the food did not seem fresh. My husband ate most of it, unfortunately. After breakfast, we went to the village, assuming the room would be cleaned in the meantime. This did not happen. My husband later learned at reception that we were expected to place a sign on the door to request room service—an unusual practice for a four-star hotel. We informed reception that we needed the room cleaned and went to Bamboo Park, hoping housekeeping would attend to it by the time we returned.
We came back about an hour and a half later, around 13:15, expecting the room to be ready. It was not. We then decided to go to the Harbour Bar to eat. As we approached the door, a lady stopped us and asked whether we wanted drinks or coffee. I replied that we wished to have a meal. She responded that the kitchen was closed due to a funeral, which was already running late. She suggested it might reopen around 15:30 (the kitchen reopened at 17). I was completely shocked. Although we were hotel guests, we were told we could not dine there. The woman—whom I later learned was responsible for weddings—told us instead to eat at Casey’s; in other words, she told us to leave the hotel.
I replied that I did not wish to go elsewhere and that someone at reception should have informed us of this issue earlier.
She continued to offer coffee, but we refused it since we were hungry. She then suggested waiting in our room, to which I replied that the room had not been serviced. We sat in the lobby. She insisted she did not want us to be unhappy. I answered that we were already upset, as no one had bothered to inform us that the hotel would not be providing food to its guests. After a while, she said she might be able to “find something in the kitchen”—a remark that made us feel as though we were begging for food. She then continued speaking about the funeral, describing the deceased person, his illness, and adding that we should consider ourselves lucky. I was appalled by her approach. The implication seemed to be that we should not complain about a meal when someone had died. And all this took place on the very day we were meant to celebrate our anniversary.
We eventually went to Casey’s to eat—an unfortunate decision. My husband became ill that evening due to food poisoning (the combination of the breakfast and the meal at Casey’s was too much), and we cancelled our anniversary dinner (we still hold the unused dinner credit). On Sunday morning, we could not eat breakfast, as he had been vomiting on Saturday night, so we left the hotel.
This was our anniversary at Eccles. I was humiliated, devastated, and frightened.
We spent a really fantastic 2 nights at this hotel. Everything was great, lovely room overlooking the bay. We had the ‘cosy double’ and although it was small it was everything we needed. Comfy bed, lovely hot shower and a stunning view. Dinner was superb- food up there with the best we’ve had, service was excellent, all staff knowledgeable and attentive. The spa was great too- outdoor hot tubs and a sauna overlooking the bay. Excellent massage. Great breakfast. Really couldn’t fault anything. Thoroughly recommend for a few nights. The coastal walk starts from just across the road opposite the hotel. We saw loads of seals. Kenmare and Bantry are both within a 30 minute drive. We’ll be back!
Sean and I got married in August of this year at The Eccles. Choosing The Eccles as our venue was a no-brainer. From day one, we were welcomed by the General Manager David, Mags and the whole Eccles team with such warmth and genuine kindness that we just knew we had to have our wedding here.
The whole experience was flawless. The team operates like a well-oiled machine—accommodating, attentive, and professional. As the bride and groom, we were able to completely relax and leave everything in their capable hands. The setting is breathtaking, and the food was absolutely epic. The Spa is also such a treat for a much-needed wind-down after the wedding. We honestly had the best weekend.
A special thank you to Mags—she is so much more than a wedding coordinator. The time and effort she puts into getting to know her couples and truly bringing their vision to life is incredible. From printing table plans to storing flowers, to offering invaluable advice during the planning process—she’s a true superwoman.
We are still on cloud nine from the whole experience. Thank you again, Eccles! We’re already looking forward to our next visit as a married couple.
We cannot recommend The Eccles and Glengarriff enough as a wedding location—it’s absolutely awesome!
I enjoyed my second visit to the Eccles Hotel last weekend.... a lovely relaxing Friday evening. I ate in the Harbour Bar - great food and wine - and friendly service. The Spa personnel kindly accommodated my spa session for the Saturday morning, as I was delayed arriving on Friday.
Relaxing jacuzzi and sauna session was included in my package.
Really tasty breakfast, with freshly prepared eggs, and complimentary newspaper.
Eccles is perfectly situated to walk up to the village of Glengariff, and for the trip out to Garinish Island. It is quite dated, but that is part of its olde world charm.
I booked a small room, but it was perfectly adequate for me and it had a beautiful view over the bay. I also enjoyed the tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, TV and ensuite.
I look forward to another visit in the future.
Wonderful from start to finish, staff were very welcoming and friendly. The spa area is a must visit, totally enjoyed the cold baths and hot tub. Dinner was amazing as was breakfast, will definitely return #EcclesHotel
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Eccles Hotel which is full of character. We had lovely accommodation in the Shaw Suite. We were able to totally relax while there and that was exactly what we needed. We found the staff from the reception, bar and dining room to be exceptionally professional, friendly and helpful. We did get to walk up to the village during a dry period and it was beautifully presented with lovely shops and bars with lots of outside seating. As it worked out the weather was the worst they've had for 22 years. We did not expect the tail end of Hurricane Amy. We experienced the massive rainfall, stormy conditions and road flooding coming from Kenmare to Glengarriff but it did not spoil our enjoyment. Let's say, it added significant mileage to our travel plans but it was an unexpected experience and happy we were all safe. We planned to use the Spa but did not know it closed on Thursdays so maybe a notice in reception area to that effect would be appropriate. We enjoyed the log fires and a beverage or two or three in the foyer considering the conditions outside the front door. We will return but will check the weather forecast in advance.
I have stayed in the Eccles Hotel on previous occasions and have always liked the ambience, the friendly and homely atmosphere, and the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. I stayed again recently on 25 Sep and again, beginning with a friendly welcome at reception (Mary?), to the lovely dinner in the restaurant served by pleasant staff, to meeting Adrian again, the friendly and dutiful bar manager, it was a very pleasant experience. A good uninterrupted sleep was had also👍.

We primarily chose this hotel because of the celebrity chef. Perhaps I shouldn't trust this description. The food was poorly presented and certainly not of a professional chef quality.
As for the hotel itself. It is dated and need of some refurbishment. It was however clean and the service was pleasant.
I am sure there are better alternatives, especially in terms of value for money.
