On a motorcycle tour of France, we spent four great nights at La Terrasse. It was my second visit and my friend has been many times. Its position in a quiet wooded valley and tiny village gives it a real sense of peace and retreat. The reception area is smart and modern, the bedrooms and bathrooms less so but nevertheless they are clean and comfortable, just a little dated. Star feature is the beautiful terrace, under an ancient wisteria and looking out over the generous swimming pool, surrounded by exotic plantings.
The style and quality of food is exceptionally good. This is really fine dining in rural France. It is small menu, heavily featuring local produce and a modern take on traditional dishes.
The staff are all very helpful and friendly and offer a professional service.
Vieillevie is a great base to explore the lovely countryside of the Cantal and the Aubrac national park by bicycle, in the car, but especially by motorbike.
Beutiful location, right by the river, and right in front of an XI century castle (Château de Vieillevie), actually my room view was the castle itself. Astonishing.
Excellent avec une restauration au top§
The dinner at the hotel restaurant was fantastic. The room was very spacious and we had enough space to open our suitcases.
There was no lift available so be careful about heavy luggage.
Stayed just three nights to celebrate a close friend's special birthday. The staff were friendly but quiet and very trusting. On our first night we enjoyed a meal on the hotel's beautiful terrace which is completely covered by sweet smelling wisteria. The food and drink were great. The open air swimming pool surrounded by tropical plants and a spectacular back-drop was warm and inviting and our room (in the hotel itself, rather than in the annex) was airy and comfortable with a view of the stunning chateau across the road. The high point of the breakfast was the coffee. There was no welcoming chat/brief on arrival about hotel access - for late night returns or on days when the hotel was closed. We got caught out returning after a party, couldn't get in (mobile phone battery ran out ... typical) and we spent that night on a friend's sofa. There is key code access which we found out about on request - if in doubt, just hang on to your key :-)
Enjoyable, French countryside hotel with an excellent restaurant. Excellent service
This is a charming family run hotel on the banks of the Lot, deep in the Auvergne countryside. We were staying there to visit nearby Conques. We were greeted by a cheerful lady and checked in. The well maintained swimming pool was still open in September. Although we did not eat there the menu was inviting and glimpses of an ultra modern kitchen were tempting. Breakfast was all you could want. Altogether a lovely stay
