Review of Brisbane Hotel – Funeral Tea Catering
The Brisbane Hotel was the venue for my dad’s funeral tea, which is a very sensitive occasion, and unfortunately our experience with the catering was deeply disappointing for Cealiac (Gluten Free)
Ahead of the day, we specifically raised concerns about gluten-free requirements due to coeliac disease. We were reassured that gluten-free guests would receive like-for-like options to the other guests. This did not happen.
The gluten-free bread provided was stale, and there were no gluten-free sausage rolls or scones offered at all. While other guests were served a full spread, the gluten-free options were extremely limited. The cakes provided for us appeared to be shop-bought from Tesco, which felt particularly inappropriate given the price charged per head.
I was left feeling excluded and embarrassed, especially for the other guest who is also coeliac. I am also a Type 1 diabetic and needed to eat, yet apart from the soup I was unable to have anything else.
For the cost per person, I genuinely feel I could have gone to Tesco myself and provided better, fresher, and more thoughtful gluten-free options. This was a funeral, not a casual gathering, and greater care, dignity, and attention to dietary needs should have been shown.
Very disappointing experience at what was already a difficult time.
It was a enjoyable breakfast only fault no food a available at night
We decided to eat out for Christmas lunch this year. The Brisbane was well decorated and the staff were very friendly. However as they had laid out the function room for the event, our party of 4 were seated at a fold up table and we were tightly packed in. The room was chilly and the service was slow. One of our drinks orders was forgotten. But the most disappointing was the food. The Christmas dinner, wasn’t very warm, the roast potatoes weren’t very roasted. There was hardly any veg and the gravy (what little there was) was the colour of dishwater. There no extra vegetables or gravy. It was not worth the money. Won’t be back next year.
The food was excellent and the hotel was quiet.
The rooms were very disappointing for the money. They were small and had very little storage space.
The hotel was beautiful but the room was freezing.
The breakfast was amazing along with the staff.
Would be good to be able to get something to eat when you returned back to hotel.
A cold room. Had to put our costs over us to keep warm
Absolutely stunning hotel, staff at reception were lovely and welcoming. Room was modern, clean and well furnished. Bathroom was also lovely and ring light mirror was a helpful touch.
Breakfast was a little slow, I had to ask three times for someone to take my order. I had eggs Benedict which was fairly mediocre at best. It was not overly busy in the room for breakfast, more than one person but the rest of the staff were having a meeting at a table and one girl running around serving everyone.
