The grounds were surprising and beautiful, with many places to sit and relax. The staff was very nice and helpful.
For the quality of the hotel, the grout in the bathroom was dirty, and there was mold on the walls by the shower.
Breakfast was nice, but for tea drinkers, it was annoying to get a tiny cup of tea and always ask for a top off and a new tea bag. It would be nice to have teapots.
Excellent service, fantastic location and beautiful architecture
Nothing
Very clean, centrally located making getting around Cuenca a breeze, and the staff were extreme friendly, helpful and responsive (they’ll help you find a taxi, recommend great spots to eat and things to see, and the front desk was available essentially 24/7)
We had a minor issue with the flushing mechanism in our toilet and we told staff. They fixed it immediately!
Everything at Mansion Alcazar was fabulous:
Staff, breakfast, room, hot water bottles, etc
All awesome.
Nothing to dislike.
Acogedor
The location is perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional. The breakfast was really nice too. These are the good things and I can recommend these specifically.
The two things I hated I'll leave until last. But to start with, the room itself wasn't as large as I expected for the price I paid, the photos I saw prior to booking and also the fact that this is a five star hotel. This was a treat to myself after 6 weeks travelling around Colombia and Ecuador and a combination of staying in hostels, eco lodges and 3 star hotels. The room was not the most comfortable. Now for the two things that were awful:
1. The wifi in the rooms was absolutely shocking - non existent! I had to leave the property to arrange Uber's, check in for flights etc, really annoying.
2. There was a piano outside my room in the lobby. Some geezer in the hotel felt compelled to play this every night between 7pm - 9pm. I get up early, have breakfast and walk and explore the city. From 8pm onwards I like to relax and sleep as I am tired from travelling all day. This was impossible for me to do with my noise cancelling headphones playing music to drown out the guy playing a piano outside my door.
If this place advertised that a guy would be playing a piano outside my door every night, irrespective of if I liked it or not, I would not have dreamed of booking this hotel. Never, ever has the thought occurred to me when trying to sleep in a hotel "do you know, what would improve this experience? Yep, someone playing a loud piano outside my door". It's not for me at all.
