Very comfortable and great location
Location excellent; room comfy but some of the cupboard doors did not align properly. Bed superb. Aircon a value added plus factor, especially in Melbourne in the middle of winter. Facilties, tea and coffee making, excellent.
The state of cleanliness of the men's toilet on the ground floor was very disappointing.
We loved the property, the amazing Art work and the location. A perfect, affordable getaway!
Clean and great bed.
The bed was comfortable. We always take our own pillows as many places don't have the soft and squishy pillows that we prefer. We enjoyed the Spoonbill restaurant for two dinners. The location was quite convenient for a walk to the train station and travel to the city for a show.
As many other reviews have mentioned, the parking is very expensive - advertised as $40/night, but it was full anyway. We went across the road to Como where it was advertised at $20/night, but we ended up having to pay $60 for two nights - too hard to complaion as we were in a hurry to leave. Also, as many others have noted, the glass walls and doors to the bathroom are pretty annoying if one person gets up during the night it illuminates the whole bedroom and wakes the other up. The bathroom basins obviously need an upgrade as they are cracking up a bit.
The Olsen Melbourne Art Series is a stylish hotel with a beautiful lobby, clean rooms, and friendly staff. Unfortunately, despite these positives, my stay was let down by a couple of significant issues.
The biggest problem was the lack of soundproofing. I could hear traffic from well beyond the street directly outside the hotel, making the room much noisier than expected, especially at night.
I was also allocated a corner room immediately beside the outdoor terrace. This meant people using the terrace could easily see directly into my room, leaving very little privacy. It was also uncomfortable hearing guests gathering just outside my window. I was surprised this room was allocated to a guest given its location.
The room itself was clean and well presented, and the staff were pleasant throughout my stay.
Overall, the hotel has plenty of potential, but the poor sound insulation and lack of privacy significantly affected my experience. With more thoughtful room allocation and better soundproofing, it would be a much more enjoyable place to stay.
