Stunning, beautiful hotel. However, had 1 big disappointment I'd wish we'd known before booking.
Pros:

Absolutely beautiful area and hotel! We stayed in a villa and couldn't believe the amazing wildlife from our deck!

There is a reason im only giving this hotel 4 stars, which I'll now explain. And I'd also like to say I'd have been so happy to give it 5 stars.

The grounds of this hotel are more beautiful than you can even imagine. The plants and forest and private beach is absolutely stunning and you can spend endless hours just walking around and looking at things. It never gets old. So many, many different birds and all the monkeys you can ever imagine. Toucan and Macaws all day long, squirrels monkeys visit every few hours!

The private beach is perfect for swimming and has the lunch menu/all cocktails available. How wonderful!! :) Look for Jeremy, he's great and works the beach! He'll take great care of you!

The on-site restaurant, it really doesn't get any better!!! The food is delicious and picture perfect and the staff are fabulous! They treat you so well and are so helpful.

There are a few golf cart on site staff will gladly drive you around in, should you have issues walking. The paths are all paved and easy to walk however.

There is also a great gym in site. Good for any fitness levels. Lots of free weights.

Jeferson was our butler and he is very helpful and so very knowledgeable about the area. There are several shops and restaurants just outside the hotel grounds that he can help you with suggestions and it's very safe, easy walking. Absolutely no security concerns at all.

The pool on site is beautiful and the bar/food options are very, very good. You'll never need more than is offered. Very impressive drink and food options!

Now it brings me to why I can only give this hotel 4 stars. We were extremely disappointed with the amount of children at this hotel. The pool most of the time was absolutely unbearable to stay at for any amount of time. At one point, I counted 16 children in the pool, all approximately under the age of 7. They constant screaming and yelling completely ruined any chance to relax and peaceful nature of the area. Our drinks a few times got filled with pool water from kids splashing and NONE of their parents did anything to dral with them. Just let the pool be the "baby sitter" and everyone else suffered because of it. For a hotel that is set up as a wellness retreat setting, I don't believe children have a place at this hotel. The price you pay for this escape, I'd not expect children yelling and screaming at the pool and beach.

Thankfully, the villas do not allow kids.

Thank you to all the great, hard working staff. We appreciated you all very much!

Relaxing
Pros:

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Los Altos Resort. From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. My butlers, Jefferson and Carlos, were truly amazing—attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. They went above and beyond to make sure every detail was perfect and that I felt completely taken care of. The rest of the staff was just as impressive: always helpful, friendly, and welcoming, which made the entire experience feel effortless and relaxing.

A great place to stay.
Pros:

A great location with very friendly and helpful staff. Everyone is happy and wants to make your stay a great experience.
We stayed in a townhouse which had a fabulous view and a nice private pool. A good place to stay in Manuel Antonio . Our view from the room was fantastic. The hotel beach is a little far but there is a car service to take you there .

Indescribable
Pros:

I have no words for how incredible this trip was. Everyone at this resort is more lovely than the last! The food was magnificent. The servers were so knowledgeable and did such a great job explaining things to us, and getting to know us. They also helped decorate for my husbands birthday and just put everything I asked for together so nicely.

What an incredible group of humans! Also everyone was lovely but Ines, Jeferson, Carlos and Danny are all the best 💕

Los Altos - One of the best resorts I've ever stayed in ANYWHERE!
Pros:

I cannot say enough about the hospitality and beauty of this place... we spent Thursday - Monday in one of the Townhouse/Plunge Pool units (TH 4) and would not have changed one thing about our stay. Our initial greeting by our Butler Jeferson was so warm. He was our Butler for the entire stay, joined by Carlos who was equally as warm. From the initial presentation of our townhouse (which as others have noted is incredibly large with two floors and simply gorgeous with an amazing view of the trees and ocean) we felt at home. Nothing was too much for Jeferson or Carlos. When my partner hurt his ankle during the trip, they took me to the pharmacy to get an ankle wrap and made sure we had plenty of ice to keep the swelling down. They made reservations at a local place for dinner and arranged for our transportation. Their communication via the WhatsApp app was seamless. They were genuinely kind and caring and we miss them.

Regarding the property itself, again, stunning views, beautiful flora and wildlife (saw monkeys, macaws, tucans and other birds from the bed!), very nice infinity pool with plenty of sun loungers that we never used due to our private plunge pool, a great entertainment room, and a nice cafe that made excellent mochachinnos! The young ladies that worked in the cafe were also really sweet. All meals were delicious - we really enjoyed the breakfasts, the pizza, and the mocktails! All the staff in the restaurant and the pool bar appeared happy to be there - that speaks volumes. We had dinner at the resort the night they hosted live music with local folk dancing. The food was excellent and the music/show was entertaining. The beach is a good clip away, but they offer a very timely shuttle to and from their beach.

All in all, we plan to return to this property and the specific room, and request Jeferson and Carlos.

Note that the townhouses have a winding staircase inside that might be challenging for people with mobility issues.

Amazing honeymoon stay at Los Altos Resort
Pros:

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, we spent four days here and truly enjoyed every moment! The staff was very helpful and attentive and the hotel and amenities were beautiful! We stayed in one of the townhomes and the view from our room was sensational. The surrounding area of the hotel was also really inviting, we walked around a decent amount and tried multiple restaurants in the area and we felt really safe walking and exploring the local hot spots.

Slice of heaven!
Pros:

AMAZING!!! This was our second time staying in Manuel Antonio and this was by far the best hotel choice. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the wonderful staff and escorted to the most beautiful villa. We had our own private butler that would help us with anything we needed. We did have a minor electrical issue which resulted in us moving to a suite for one night, but the staff were amazing and even with the minor issue, we wouldn’t have changed a thing! They have their own restaurant, pool, beach, and spa as well. All are amazing. The food was incredible and you can tell they have an amazing chef who uses top ingredients. They even have their own bees that make honey on the property.
To top it off, they have their own beach with the most beautiful sunsets and the sweetest gentleman (Jeremy) who was so accommodating would get anything we needed. It is a little rocky so definitely wear water shoes, but they have beach chairs so not a big deal.
Will definitely be back!

Amazing service
Pros:

We celebrated my wife's grandmother's 90th birthday here. Our extended family of 17 people stayed for 6 nights in 3 suites. With 17 people, let's just say there was a variety of personalities and potential drama, and certainly plenty that cold have gone wrong.

The staff at Los Altos was the highlight of our trip. They became familiar faces to us, always with a smile, always willing to help. We saw some of the same staff members at the restaurant, by the pool, and down the hill serving drinks and food at the secluded beach. They took time to get to know us and were always ready to make sure we had a great vacation. A special thank you to Ines, who always happened to be waiting on us at breakfast!

Of course the location is nice, lots of activities in that area. Our group went deep sea fishing, waterfall trekking, nature walking at night, diving off Cano island, mangrove kayaking, etc etc. Just plenty to keep all ages busy. And the immediate little town above the resort has several great restaurants and shops, including a grocery and pharmacy.

I also have to give a shout out to the spa. I don't often do spa appointments but wife and her aunt raved about their treatments, so I did a deep tissue massage that was the best and most relaxing spa experience I can remember. And a very reasonable price, by US standards.

All in all, this family trip (for this in-law) was as good as we could have hoped for, made so by the amazing Los Altos resort and especially the staff. Thank you all so much!

Perfect honeymoon, amazing staff
Pros:

We had the most wonderful experience at the Los Altos resort! We came on our honeymoon, stayed in one of the villas and everything was truly perfect. Carlos (our butler) was excellent, along with Jefferson, Alex, Paco, and Jeremy who went above and beyond with their customer service. We truly enjoyed their company and they made our experience one we will never forget. We are hoping to come back next time with our children.

Heaven
Pros:

Beautiful hotel with amazing views of the florest and ocean. Well appointed rooms- we first stayed at the townhouse with our own plunge pool and once our daughter arrived we moved to one of the very spacious apartments. The view of the florest and sea are breathtaking. What we loved the most was Para beach. Advise- take the 4x4 to get there and back, otherwise it is a very steep hike. While in Los Altos we saw monkeys, macaws, a sloth and other animals. The people are all super friendly. All in all I highly recommend Los Altos and would be back in a heartbeat

Staff great, loud construction and road, would not return
Pros:

Staff at Los Altos is amazing, Sebastian saved us when our travel group made none of the excursions reservations that had told us they had made. Ines in the restaurant is terrific and the food was wonderful. The resort is ok, we stayed in the penthouse which can sleep 8. There will be construction next door for 2-3 years on a new resort depending on who you talk to. We spent whole stay listening to chainsaws and trucks clearing the area less than 300 yards from our building, restaurant and pool area. Apparently the idea is to raise volume of pool music (local music and staff got a bit upset when two people asked them to change it) to drown out the chainsaws. Less than ideal. Room is nice good views. 3 levels but most of the balcony views are obstructed. Very odd set up. Problems are if you stay in main building it’s very close to road and it’s loud. Trucks and motorbikes starting early to late. There are other rooms for two people that are away from the road that may be better. Pool is fine, beach is non existent at this location (we knew that going in). But we would not stay again.

Enjoyable stay but a disappointment as a 5 star hotel.
Pros:

We spent 5 nights at this property and firstly it is fair to say that we really enjoyed our time here. The positives are that the rooms are very spacious, beds are comfortable etc, the swimming pool is lovely with very comfortable loungers, hot tubs and there is a beautiful private beach (shared with one other property). Special mention to Jeremy, the member of staff at the beach, who was very attentive and enthusiastic about showing us the sloth in the trees. The gym is also decent.

The location of the hotel is good too- right next to the hotel is an excellent sushi restaurant- Enso- and also a fantastic Thai restaurant called Samui.

However, it did have a number of flaws that made our stay quite frustrating. Firstly, the service from the staff at both breakfast and at the pool was appalling. They were very unfriendly, constantly got orders wrong and we got the impression that either they really didn’t like us or simply hated their jobs and just couldn’t be bothered to put any effort into listening to us or helping us. For a supposed 5 star hotel, the breakfast menu was very limited and you’d expect them to make poached eggs but I was told that I could only have scrambled or fried. We had to remind them on a daily basis to bring out the fruit and bread basket that was meant to be served at each sitting. It was also very annoying to be charged extra for a very mediocre cappuccino each day. And an extra annoyance was to be told by a waitress one day that they don’t serve cappuccinos. When on the previous day the same waitress had given me one!

Secondly, whilst the rooms were spacious they did feel a bit soulless and we certainly tired. In one room there were stains on the curtain and on the bed. The decor is almost a bit industrial and not inviting. Plus the elevator system is not ideal- as other guests mention- the elevator opens directly into your room. You can close an internal door which stops anyone coming into the room without a key but it is very easy to forget this. This doesn’t mean that anyone can enter your room but it does mean that if you call the elevator to your room and someone else is already in that elevator, they might walk into your apartment without releasing. Also because of this, if you forget to close the internal door, there is no system for the staff to knock on the door/ give you privacy. The elevator doors open to your room and they just walk into and shout “hello”!

Thirdly, while I personally loved the beach, I can understand why many may not. There is a short walk over rocks to get to the sandy area. There are sun loungers and towels but no umbrellas and very limited facilities.

So overall, we did enjoy our stay and I do want to emphasise that- but Los Altos Resort is a real disappointment as a 5 star property and a a real let down to the SLH group.

This resort was beyond wonderful
Pros:

I truly can’t say enough about my exoericne at Los Altos. The grounds, views, food and especially the staff were top notch. I just went through a very stressful event in my life and needed a place to relax and find some solace. This definitely fir the bill! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The staff couldn’t do enough, they were always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable!
We stayed in the two story townhomes, which were were truly magnificent. The all glass wall and balconies gave you a complete birds-eye view of the rainforest and Pacific Ocean. It was a joy waking up to sunrises and the chatter of birds. The breakfasts were delicious, They offered a lot of variety and the entire food staff couldn’t have been nicer and more efficient. The dinners were also delicious and there were many choices. The reception staff answered all of our questions and handled booking all of our tours with such efficiency and promptness. The spa was wonderful ! The staff, massages and facials were terrific. It truly relaxed us and we felt regenerated when we left I believe the saying it trickles down from the top is very accurate here, We met the owner several times and he couldn’t be more friendly, accomodating and gracious!
If you want to truly relax in a lovely beach area, sightsee, visit the rainforest, and also want to stay at a fabulous place with many amenities, this place has it all ! I would highly recommend Los Altos!

Great experience staying in the Townhouse
Pros:

Our stay at Los Altos Resort in the Townhouse room was incredible. The Townhouse had a beautiful uninterrupted view of the forest and sea, with a private pool to watch the birds in the day and stars at night. The Townhouse is over two floors which provided lots of space and had a very comfortable bed and upstairs sofa to relax in the evenings. All the staff were very attentive and made it their first priority to make our experience great. Also the private beach is stunning and had a bar, beds and sloths!

Wonderful week at Los Altos in Costa Rica
Pros:

Los Altos is an upscale property near Manuel Antonio Park. Our adult-only villa was beautiful and private with anacing views over looking the jungle and ocean bay. Our concierge team , Carlos and Sebastian were incredible - transport, reservations and general advice. The staff overall were very friendly and attentive, food excellent especially Monica, Dorita, Idris and Stephanie. The couples massage on property was great after a ATV tour.
Some notes - we are 60-64 years old; if you stay here - lots of hills so bring appropriate footwear. Hot tubs are not hot in costa rice, tap water and food is delicious, for tours, take a private guided tour of MA park - the los altos team arranged it for us. Pura vida!

Pros:

Our experience at Los Altos was fantastic. We stayed in the two story townhouse with its own plunge pool, overlooking the forest and ocean. The property was beautiful and the staff were so helpful and accommodating, providing free breakfast daily, rides to the private beach and helping us spot wildlife on the property. I can't recommend Los Altos enough.

Gorgeous boutique hotel w/ exception service A+ +
Pros:

Absolutely beautiful boutique hotel with some of the best service we’ve ever had traveling in five star hotels. I would highly recommend this hotel which is near the national park where you can take guided tours of the forest with all the animals and other exotic plants, etc. But the hotel was superior. We had a townhome that was two floors with floor to ceiling glass windows so you could see the gorgeous ocean and surrounding forest that lines the coast of Costa Rica.

We had a Butler 24 hours. They took care of our every need. You could call them at the 11th hour and they will provide whatever service you need. And the friendliness of these individuals at this hotel was outstanding. It made our trip extremely memorable!

I’m not sure what the hotel is rated, but it should be a five star plus. I highly recommend checking this place out if you’re coming to Costa Rica.
