Altis Avenida — When Luxury Actually Feels Like Hospitality

Some hotels are beautiful. Some are luxurious. And then there are hotels where the service makes you feel genuinely looked after. Altis Avenida falls firmly into the third category.

From the moment we arrived, the experience felt different. The valet ran out to help my husband with our luggage, and the front desk team (Claudia) went above and beyond to make our stay special. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking Restauradores Square, the Restauradores Monument and the Lisbon sign. It was one of those lovely surprises that immediately sets the tone for a stay.

The room itself was spacious, comfortable and impeccably clean. There was complimentary water and a thoughtful little serving of pastéis de nata waiting for us. And what I particularly appreciated was the generosity — nothing felt transactional or nickel-and-dimed.

The lobby bar had complimentary still and sparkling water, along with sparkling wine available for guests to enjoy. Small gesture? Perhaps. But these are exactly the details that distinguish genuine hospitality from simply providing a luxury product.

Housekeeping was exceptional. The room was serviced twice daily — once in the morning and again in the evening. At turndown, they would close the blinds, refresh the towels, leave chocolates on the bed and even provide a fresh bottle of port. It was beautifully done without ever feeling excessive.

Breakfast was excellent, with a generous spread and plenty of choice.

But the real star of this hotel is the people.

One evening, we went to the bar for drinks only to discover it had closed. We asked if they could possibly make a hot chocolate for our son. They happily did — and then told us there would be no charge.

That moment probably says more about the hotel than anything else.

Luxury, to me, isn’t about marble, chandeliers or how many stars are attached to a property.

The rooftop Bar and sundeck, the views, the wonderful staff, the location right in the middle of town, the chic Art deco rooms, the great service! Loved it there.

MUST STAY in Lisbon. Want a true 5 star experience in Lisbon that is centrally located with exceptional service in a boutique hotel. Look no further than Altis Avenida - a local chain that should NOT be overlooked when you are considering hotels in Lisbon. Friends will recommend the Four Seasons (not central), Avenida Palace (across the street), etc. Luckily a friend recommended the Altis Avenida.

Since I was traveling only with my daughter, I wanted the confidence of a chain. I wish Altis operated globally. The level of service and the team orientation was superb. There are always little things when you arrive. The quick and attentive problem solving orientation of the greater team was the best I have experienced across the various global 5 star chains. From the warm welcome to the welcome amenity in your room awaiting your arrival to the last night amenity (see photo!) greeting you and making you wish you could stay longer. They also delivered a popcorn maker with popcorn kernels to my daughter’s delight on the first night!

* The rooftop restaurant has stunning views especially at sunset and open only to guests Mon and Tues night!!
* If you join their club (free) you are eligible for an upgrade. We were lucky enough to get a room with balcony (617 - has an extended balcony with a table and 2 chairs). Stunning views.
* Amazing AC - crucial and inviting during the summer months!
* Toothbrush and toothpaste in addition to standard shaving and vanity kit
* Snacks and beverages all day in lounge next to reception

Overall, it was the service and the team that won us over. Highly recommend without hesitation (we are now in Paris and wish they had a hotel here!!!). For best rates, sign up on website and book directly! Our stay here made Lisbon even more memorable!!!

Hotel is centrally located, access to everything nearby!!! Great views, exceptional hospitality, very clean and luxury hotel! Best in town, highly recommend.
The staff was incredibly amazing, 10 stars to Sofia & the maintenance team!

Location and rooftop bar

The hotel is located in a very convenient location, next to the train station. Our room is clean and has a great view of the square. Even better, the roof of the hotel offers a panoramic view of the city, which is especially beautiful at night. The selection of breakfast is excellent, and the restaurant has a great view. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
