Cons:

The hotel demanded excessive personal details to be filled out on the check-in form and demanded photo ID, which does not meet modern GDPR standards. The manager got argumentative and threatened to cancel the booking if I did not comply. The booking made it look like car parking was included (another guest checking in had the same impression) but the manager demanded a £15/day fee -- again threatening to cancel the booking if we did not comply. Other staff were grumpy and rude.
The room was stiflingly hot. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, the softest mattresses I have ever experienced, so we hardly slept at all and woke with sore backs as a result of the total lack of support during the night.

Pros:

The room was quite basic but everything I needed for my stay. The information sent before my stay was very useful. Breakfast was fine and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Cons:

If I had to be picky. The room was just off reception and was a little noisy until about 11 o clock. I would definitely stay there again but I would ask for a room upstairs.

Excellent base
Pros:

Location for city centre excellent and quality way exceeded expectations for great price

Cons:

Nothing. All was good well apart from maybe auto light in toilet that woke me with light and noise from fan in middle of night but I hadn't pulled door shut properly

warm, welcoming and comfortable, friendly staff and a pleasant stay
Pros:

Loved how close this hotel was to the city centre while being away from the madness. travelled for my wifes birthday and the hotel was lovely. right beside the tram station and bus lines.

walk to the room was a little far but the room itself had everything you could need, even a mini fridge! which was well used for milk for tea.

Cons:

walking distance to room was far but not the worst. no hot evening food as well but plenty of restaurants and take aways in edinburgh so you werent stuck

-Room was surprisingly quiet, for being located just off a main road
- Welcoming staff
- The possibility to leave your luggage in, after check out, to collect later.

Cons:

- Having to pre-order your breakfast the night before, ie choosing off the menu what you were going to eat
-Mattress were a bit on the soft side
