It's a gorgeous looking hotel with a stunning courtyard and beautiful grounds. The hotel itself is really nicely appointed with lovely features and interesting and eclectic artwork. Both restaurants are good with a nice variety of Indian and non-Indian food. Most of the staff and friendly, helpful and attentive although occasionally there was inconsistency in service levels. The morning musician/flautist during breakfast was a lovely touch.
The room we stayed in was large but was cheaply furnished. The Wi-Fi was weak and we lost reception often. Even though we stayed during the winter months when temperatures dip below 5c at night, the room had no heating. When we requested a portable heater, there was only one suitable plug point, illogically right near the bed. At these price points, offering Nescafe sachets in the room rather than a real coffee machine felt miserly. The front office/reception also offered no written material about the hotel nor the area, making a walk around the grounds or nearby tours unnecessarily difficult. Lastly, the swimming pool/spa felt way too public with a pathway that cuts through the spa area making it feel somewhat less inviting or luxurious.
Suryagarh is a really impressive hotel in the desert just outside Jaisalmer. It's high-end luxury with a great reputation and all of the staff were very helpful. We loved the breakfast and there are lots of lovely common spaces to walk around. The room was very pleasant and the hotel does a turndown service with little sweets left as a nice touch.
The communication with the hotel had been quite poor prior to arriving - this could definitely be improved. The common areas are lovely but I get the impression that this is a hotel designed more for Indian tourists (this is clearly the target market so it's very understandable) rather than a western audience; the pool area is entirely in shade (indoor-outdoor hammam style but with no space in the sun) and there were no real areas within the gardens to relax in the sun with a book (and much of the hotel was cut off at various times due to private events taking place). If Suryagarh would like a more international audience, some relaxation areas in the sun would be recommended. I hated the on-site animal farm and found it really depressing to see animals being kept captive for no reason other than to show guests/tourists. Ducks were given limited time in water per day and the camel was chained to the ground.
Everything was wonderful
Food options and restaurant options were limited
Amazing architecture and garden. Gorgeous property.
I little far away from the city center.
Royal property with personal attention
Location and architecture
F&B staff service
Hotel Staff was extremely great & made your experience more delightful. Food was great too. At breakfast they made you so comfortable to keep ordering on table. Overall Raja ji wali feeling
Although nothing much but only room curtains can be reviewed as during day its not enough to blackout the room and helmet sizes needs to be increased too to avoid side lights..
The property , the facilities, the grand architecture were absolutely outstanding. The staff, especially the two Rahuls in the restaurant were just too good with their care and advice.
The quality of the food left a lot to be desired, too much masalas and over marination. The ergonomics could be better, e.g.
The glass door in the toilet area is totally superfluous as it neither protects or gives privacy and in fact both of us hurt ourselves on this door. Lack of facial tissue was a minor irritant.
