Spacious corner room with a cathedral view
Pros:

I stayed one night at Thon Hotel Alta in February 2026 as a stopover before a scooter trip across Finnmarksvidda, and it delivered a modern, comfortable base with a genuinely impressive room and view.

The hotel’s central location is a real plus: right in Alta town centre, close to the bus terminal, and about 15 minutes by taxi from the airport. There’s parking by the hotel, although it’s worth notice there’s a parking fee.

I had a corner room (no. 501) and it was spotlessly clean. The room felt spacious, and the bed was very comfortable—I slept well and appreciated how quiet it was throughout the night. Practical touches were strong too: a coffee machine for an early start, and a minibar with a good selection.

One of the highlights was the view towards Nordlyskatedralen - as shown in my room photo, it’s a striking landmark to wake up to. The bathroom was large, and the underfloor heating made a noticeable difference in winter.

Service was smooth and efficient, with quick check-in and check-out and friendly staff who spoke Norwegian.
The overall feel is what you’d expect from Thon: standard Thon interiors with a slightly business-oriented atmosphere.
Breakfast was perfectly fine with the essentials, but it got a bit chaotic around 09:00 when I visited the dining
room.

What could be improved
- Better flow/organization at breakfast during peak times (especially around 09:00).

Final verdict: I’d happily stay here again for a practical, comfortable night in Alta—especially if I could get a higher-floor room with that cathedral view.

If you go
- Ask for an upper-floor room facing Nordlyskatedralen if available.
- Aim for breakfast before 09:00 to avoid the busiest period.

Good hotel, great breakfast
Pros:

A good choice when staying in Alta. The staff are really friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable. The real stand out is the amazing breakfast where they serve almost anything you could wish for. Delicious !

Perfect for one night.
Pros:

Short walk from the bus station, located next to a busy, friendly shopping mall. Huge choice at breakfast buffet.

Cons:

Don't get lost in town and get back one minute after your check-out time as you need to use your key card for the lift otherwise it won't let you go up and you have to beg the receptionist to let you out!

Pros:

fantastisches Frühstück, sehr freundliches Personal, super Lage, schön eingerichtet, schallisolierte Zimmer, bequeme Betten. für eine Nacht (oder mehr) in Alta kann man sich nicht mehr wünschen.
