Rooms were reasonably clean. The location is well connected to Oxford City by public transport.
The guesthouse representation on the booking.com website is highly misleading. *Some* of the rooms are renovated. The one we were offered – room 17 – was in shambles. Teeny-weeny, worn, a broken faucet handle in the tiny bathroom, it was overall quite substandard. The renovated room – #19 – we were allowed swap into on day 3 was better, but still uncomfortable. An antique electric water heater (depicted) in the small shower cabinet first produced cold water, which was suddenly jumping to searing hot, finally giving up altogether.
We had booked this accommodation through booking.com with breakfast, but the guesthouse staff apparently didn't get that information. On the day following our evening arrival, we were denied breakfast by the house maid on the claim that breakfast was not included in our booking. While we first were under the impression of just a clerical error, the personnel steadfastly claimed in the days that followed that a breakfast for us was "not in their books".
Later, in lengthy discussions with the guesthouse manager, Anthony Pilak, presenting him with the written contract from booking.com, it was not clear whether the Manager just played dumb or had fraudulent intentions (generally, all personnel at Lina Guesthouse were not capable of straightforward, clear communication in plain English).
