My round-the-world journey continues. Upon check-in, my room with one large bed wasn't available, and I was offered a choice between the two remaining rooms. To the most handsome and sweet guy who worked the night shift from October 12th to 13th, 2026 — thank you for taking such good care of me. I chose a room, and I liked it. Yes, the hotel is old and smells old, but coming from a megacity, it feels as if you’ve stepped into a Chinese grandmother's house, where it is cozy, caring, and clean. Yes, absolutely clean — because my earring dropped, and I had to move the bed, and there was no dust or trash underneath at all. Thank you so much to the Chinese people for your hospitality, care, and the sincere warmth of a home. I bow deeply to you in gratitude.

A cheap and cheerful Shanghai option in an excellent location
Pros:

An excellent location, just of Nanjing Road (East). About a 10 minute walk from the metro stop, so getting there from the aiport is straightforward - all on the same line. An easy walk to the bund and with bustling Nanjing Road (and 100s of eateries) on your doorstep. It is a basic hotel, but it is clean and comfortable.
