The hotel itself was beautiful, great location and views. The dinner on the Saturday in the main restaurant was delicious and very well presented.
Our room was on the smaller side, but comfortable. Unfortunately there was an alert cation between guests on the Saturday night, which was then discussed within earshot of us having breakfast on the Sunday morning.
We booked out breakfast for 09:00on Sunday morning, however, it did not arrived until 09:50hours. We were seated in the conservatory as we had our dog with us, who was referred by a staff member as "the mut", and our waitress who was serving guests within the conservatory on the morning alerted all guests that she was afraid of dogs due to previous experiences.
This did not make us feel at ease in the slightest and we were on edge which did not allow us to enjoy our breakfast.
Also my breakfast on the Sunday was quite underwhelming and my husbands breakfast was also not cooked well.
Fabulous welcoming staff and beautiful surroundings
The hotel is in an excellent position and room was comfortable with view of the lake (as requested as an addition info). In general, all staff were very friendly and helpful. The overall impression was good and met our expectations - having visited the hotel for food and drinks on many occasions previously. Being dog-friendly was a must for us and they certainly are good with our four-legged companions. Breakfast food was excellent.
I'm sure that it couldn't have been avoided, but the bar having to close early one night due to essential maintenance work was disappointing. as was the hectic breakfast service one morning due to short staffing. It's also a bit of a trek for dog owners having to walk through from the conservatory (only breakfast area available for them) to the dining room - some distance away - for continental breakfast food, juices, etc., with no trays to carry items on - and impossible for dog owners on their own who might have to leave their dog(s) in the bedroom. The dinner menu was quite limited and not what I would call value for money. It's evident that their £40 per head allowance when booking dinner B&B could easily be used up on just one or two courses and you can't include drinks in this allowance (we had two mains and two drinks off the inclusive deal and it cost over £60).
Great location, beautiful room
Staff on the bar was poor only 1 and long wait.
A lovely hotel and wonderfully friendly helpful staff, the waitress at breakfast was so kind and helpful. The room was immaculately clean
Friendly staff. Very clean and great atmosphere
Lovely view over the lake and scenic drive to the hotel.
No lift
Clean comfortable room, excellent food, and a beautiful location.
One of the best hotel rooms we have had.
The bar area was really nice on an evening, like a ski lodge, super chilled and toasty on a cold wet night.
The staff were all absolutely top drawer, so polite and helpful, couldn't have asked for better.
The location was great for hiking.
The place is clean, well looked after and you get a nice sense of history to the building over more modern hotels.
Only way it could be improved for us, is to have coat hooks in the room, for expensive wet coats we didnt want to leave in the drying room and a fridge to keep some cold water in. Really minor things.
The room was superb Breakfast excellent.Evening meal was great
We absolutely loved our stay at this dog-friendly hotel last weekend. The atmosphere was relaxed, happy, and welcoming for both people and dogs. I stayed with my mum, stepdad, and my dog Ronnie, and we all had an amazing time. Every member of staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home.
Jordan on reception was so friendly and informative, giving great recommendations for local walks and things to see around Borrowdale and Keswick. Rita, the waitress, was brilliant; incredibly attentive and always making a fuss of the dogs with treats and cuddles. John the cleaner was also lovely and chatty, checking in to see how my stay was, and like everyone else, he was great with Ronnie.
The hotel was spotless, the food was incredible (especially the breakfast), and the views were absolutely stunning, even the rain couldn’t spoil it. We’ll 100% be back, and I definitely have the holiday blues… made even better by England winning the rugby! 🏉🐾
Property was great, really good location!
Too hot! We had our room window open all night and felt so warm :( also one of our windows didn’t open so made it worse.
Loved that it was perfectly accessible for mum who uses a rollator...we didn't have to worry about how she would manage around the hotel.
The breakfast was fantastic.
The staff couldn't be more helpful.
We thought the food was over priced and not as "wow" as we were hoping for.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Room very excellent. Log fires in lounges really appreciated.
Food generally very disappointing. Cooked breakfast, particularly the bacon mediocre.
Dinner overpriced for the quality provided.
