Comfortable stay and friendly staff
Pros:

Friendly staff, excellent service, comfortable rooms and excellent choice at breakfast.

Cons:

We had drinks in the bar and a lovely meal in the brasserie, but as everything we signed for was on a hand held terminal we were never given a breakdown or copy. In the bar this wasn't so bad, but the meal in the brasserie we had no idea of what we signed for.

Not the hotel experience I expected.
Pros:

The room was spacious and quiet; Reception was very professional and plesant.

Cons:

The spa felt very dated and in need of refurbishment, and the changing rooms required a much more thorough clean. On our first evening, we had a pleasant meal in the Bunkers Bar, which was a highlight of the stay. Breakfast, however, felt more like a holiday camp canteen than a hotel dining experience.
We also booked the Brasserie for an evening meal, which was unfortunately disappointing. I ordered the crab dish, only to find the shells were completely empty. When I raised this with the staff, the cost of the dish was removed from our bill, which I appreciated — however, the response I received was that it "isn't for everyone," which I found quite dismissive and surprising.
Sadly, we would not return. I had been looking forward to visiting what I remembered as a lovely, intimate adult-only restaurant previously housed in the hotel, and it was a shame not to find that experience still in place.

Pros:

Staff were really friendly on reception as we're the waiting staff in the bar and at breakfast. Breakfast selection was fantastic. Food was delicious and service was quick. Stunning location

Cons:

It's a bit of a maze so takes a bit to figure out where your room is. There was a lot of dust on the shelf where the tea and coffee facilities were

Best stay out of three :-)
Pros:

This was our third visit to Dunston Hall since 2024 and it was the best. My boy always likes to go back to 'Hogwarts' but this time it was really a nearly perfect stay. At the start we had first a smelly (smoking) room but after we mentioned this we got (I guess and upgrade?) things went on from there very well :-).
Especially the staff are now more attentive and on time - in comparison - with our former visits (see my review from 2024).

Cons:

All good this time :-)
