Older hotel, a bit worn in places. Good location, about ten minutes to the train station and ten minutes in the opposite direction to Malbork Castle. Plenty of nearby bars and restaurants. About a block to the nearest Zabka. Friendly and efficient staff that speak English. Tasty, large, and diverse breakfast, get there early as some hot dishes are not replenished when they are finished. We had an early train, staff kindly packed up a breakfast for us (we asked the night before).
If you need a one night stop for parkrun then this is a good option for avoiding the stress of making your way from Gdansk early on a Saturday morning. A five minute walk from the station and about fifteen minutes from the castle and the start line. The midday checkout and bag storage also works well if you want to shower and then stay for the day to visit the castle. Friendly staff and free tea/coffee in reception. A fridge and a hairdryer in the room. Beds a little hard and the pillows a little flat but a perfectly okay room and decent ensuite bathroom for about £40-45 per night. The road outside was a bit loud but I slept okay.
Friendly welcome and free tea and coffee in reception.
Very tidy, friendly and convenient. Close to Malbork Castle.
Restaurant is excellent.
I love the staff they were the nicest and most helpful. They would call cabs for me and the waitress named Emillia was the best. She had blonde hair in a ponytail and glasses. She didn't speak English very well but she sparked a conversation with our translation apps. She also showed me around the next day after taking care of her family. I offered her money and she wouldn't take it. She gave me a big hug when I left. Also olec or olek in polish it would be Alex in English I guess. He liked being called olec. He worked in the restaurant too. Very sweet young man.
- located few minutes by foot from Malbork castle and near the starting point of Malbork old town houses route (that itself is interesting glimpse to Malbork history)
- big room, only small con was that tea kettle was not in the room, but at the reception
- small but clean bathroom
- continental breakfast
- hotel has its own small underground parking, but the parking spots are not reserved meaning that if you go somewhere by car during your stay, it can happen that you won´t find the place to park upon arrival
Great location and Emilia in bar was fun
Central
Excellent location, easy walk from train station, businesses and the castle (the castle is probably why most people come to Malbork). Staff was friendly. My room did have a very small bathroom.
Excellent hotel in excellent location , lovely breakfast . Big rooms and ten min walk away from park run
I stayed for parkrun & castle. Only a 10 mins walk to castle and train station.
I went to Malbork for the weekend. I shortened my stay to one day. Why? Unfortunately, because I stayed at the Grot Hotel.
I do not recommend this hotel. I completely, absolutely advise against it. Unless it is for someone who has no expectations regarding comfort. Organizational chaos during reservations, no room that I booked, a very noisy room (through the window a thoroughfare) that I was offered, an uncomfortable bed, no soap in one dispenser. The price is completely inadequate to the quality.
I booked a 3-person room for single use on Booking.com. Not because I wanted to stay in a "three", but because it was the only one available on the date I chose. After arriving at the place, to my surprise, it turned out that the room I booked on Booking.com was not available.
So I was offered another one. True, a double, but since it did not really matter, I went to see it. However, it was completely unusable for someone who wanted to be able to use a laptop or read a book in the evening. I also came to Malbork to do some quiet work (writing an article), but there were no sockets in the room by any of the beds - to be able to turn on the laptop and the night light, you would need 2 extension cords running the length of the room, so working in such conditions would be very difficult, because I didn't want to trip over cables every time I got out of bed. So the lady suggested another room, which did have a socket by the bed, but it turned out to be so loud that it was impossible to work during the day or fall asleep at night. Outside the window of room no. 105 is a thoroughfare, which is constantly being driven by trucks at night, and during the day the traffic and noise are even more bothersome with additional attractions besides car traffic, such as beeping traffic lights at the crossing. After a sleepless night, I asked the reception to change rooms so that the window faced the quiet side of the hotel. I was promised that after 2:00 PM such a room would be found. However, after 2:00 PM it turned out that unfortunately, I could simply get another room with windows facing the same air route.
Due to the prospect of another sleepless night, I simply checked out of the hotel a day earlier than planned, resigning from staying in such conditions. Of course, they charged for the three-person room that I had booked on Booking, which turned out to be unavailable, without even offering a discount for staying in a room other than the one booked and all the fuss.
The only brighter ray was the lady at the reception, who tried to help somehow, but she couldn't do much.
Therefore, I do not recommend this hotel - I never want to stay in such conditions again. Never again. And I also advise you wholeheartedly against it
All was great. Good location. Only disappointment is no AC. Not end of the world, but AC would definitely help.
The service was excellent, breakfast was great and ladies serving breakfast were helpful and always with a smile. The hotel is about 15 minutes to the castle and Close to shopping.
Jag har bott på Hotel Grot flera gånger. Denna gång upptäckte jag dålig städning av toalettstolen, vilket inte är acceptabelt.
Hotellet är annars ok men inte riktigt värt priset sommartid.
The furniture was shabby & the bed like a rock. The pillow was terrible!!!!
Room had a very dated decor and smelled stale. Not particularly clean overall. Mildew stains in the bathroom, shower drain falling apart etc. Not exactly budget priced, so I expected a higher standard.
Parking is extra, but convenient, however the underground parking spots are tight, not great for a large car.
Breakfast was extra and it was very disappointing - cold sausages, cold scrambled eggs, limited selection. Not worth the extra money.
Hotel is very conveniently located. The walk to the castle takes about 10 minutes at an easy pace. There are restaurants and grocery stores around the corner from the hotel. Street parking (paid parking during the day) is available not far away either.
Staff was very nice and friendly.
It is in center short to Dino Park and to castle
The place is right next to and facing a road with lot of traffic, and the location is not the nicest. Many rooms face a silent back alley. Room is clean with nice toilet. Helpful people in the reception.
The beds have hard spring matress. I didnt sleep well
